"My favorite car. I have had MB, Porsche and BMW"

This car is a hidden gem. I have never had a significant problem with it. I have driven from California to Newfoundland in it six times [13,000 miles total round trip]. The odometer shows just under 116,000 miles. Just replaced the front pads and turned rotors FOR THE FIRST TIME. Always synthetic oil [Mobil 1]. It is a powerful brute [V8 6 liters]. 22.5 mpg average. I have gotten 28 highway, but 25-26 would be typical. Roomy & comfortable. I am a big, tall man. Good looking. The car, I mean. It's a man's car. Mine is a slate blue, which gets us lots of compliments. The quality of the paint and paint job is excellent, and it is really standing up very well, after six years living outside. A few complaints: :: The rear seatbelts just jam you in. The dealer replaced them under warranty, but the new ones are the same. The are like boa constrictors. When you put one on, it just keeps tightening, and won't let you move. :: The cruise control is in an awkward spot [in front of the wheel, so you have to reach around the wheel] :: The plastic piece on the left of the driver's seat, which holds the power seat switch, broke; the dealer replaced it under warranty. Shortly after the warranty expired, it broke again. It is just a poor design. My solution: I fastened it to the far side of the seat mechanism with a small bungee cord. It has been like this for three years. :: There was a shiny piece of trim under the gauges, which made the gauges impossible to read in bright sunlight. I fixed this myself, and it was super easy. I bought an aerosol can of paint at Pep Boys in New Jersey. The label said 'for plastics'. When I got home to California, I took off the two trim pieces, which just snap out with a screwdriver, and thoroughly cleaned, rinsed and dried them, then spray-painted them. I got a very nice surprise. The paint was a matte dark grey, which matches the rest of the dash perfectly. The car has never been garaged, yet it looks like new - almost. :: The car didn't come with a spare wheel and tire. It came with a compressor, which wouldn't be helpful in case of a major tire failure. I bought a wheel and tire resembling the other four. :: The front seatback recliner knob is in an awkward spot. I am astonished that an American car company has produced such an excellent car. The car was built in Australia . Last, but not least; it's great to drive. On my cross-country trips I drive it pretty hard. The car handles very well. My last car was an M3, with which I had several serious problems. The handling of the G8 compares very favorably, and the G8 has nearly 400 hp, compared with 240 hp of the '95 M3. It's a great modern muscle car.

"hooribal vehicle for the money"

I have had this vehicle for a little over three months and have had it back to the dealer at least three times a month for a belt that squeaks constantly. After contacting GM regarding this situation they then turned me over to another customer service representitive. I think that the dealer has had my vehicle more then I do. They have also changed the belt and the pulley a couple of times. I think it is time to either give me my money back or another vehicle.

Fantastic car, love driving it. When I have to go somewhere it makes me excited when i remember I am driving a G8 Gt to get where i’m going. Lots of power and plenty of aftermarket parts and so on. Comfortable ride and very good looking car.

great car 12.5 years & just normal maintenance
Pros

instant power above average handling great looks &

Cons

manual seat recliners, too much brake pedal travel

purchased 9/13/08 out the door for $28,500 with 19 inch oem rim for spare. According to chase bank & kbb trade in value up to $24400 in good condition. original tires should be good for another 3 yrs. averaging 3500 miles a year & 21mpg,coolant & brake fluid changed twice, 0il & filter done annually. Two new batteries & one set of wiper blades( usually not driven in the rain) always garaged. I look forward to driving it for another few years & leaving it to my heirs. For me it is comfortable & roomy a pleasure to drive, only complaint is too much brake pedal travel, & passenger seat rear travel not far enough. Compared to the other 40 or so cars I have owned some way more expensive, this has been the best. Never a pontiac fan, but I'am now. even if it is to late.

13+ years & I still look forward to driving it
Pros

reliable, economical, comfortable, great looking

Cons

no longer manufactured.

admittedly the car stays garaged when not in operation, but still looks as good as the day it was purchased. there are a few short cummings like the recline for front seats being manual & hard to reach when seated in the car,the am stations no longer work. the interior has worn very well, & the exterior looks great.6 liter averages about 21mpg in mixed driving. tires & brakes are original. a few routine maintenance items coming due ie transmission fluid, rear axle fluid, engine coolant. the car is way faster than it needs to be, but it is nice to have the power in reserve. If GM were still producing this car I would buy it again. It was a bargain then & the resale value is very near the new cost. repairs have been non existent. routine maintenance only.

Jet Black Pontiac!
Pros

Muscle car in a suit and tie

Cons

No V8 sound from stock exhaust

With a 79 TA in the garage... Have to say I am a Pontiac guy. That said.. The G8 GT is something different. This will turn heads since most people have no idea what it is? This is a muscle car in a suit and tie. Stock exhaust is not thrilling.. In fact, dead silent. Probably my only disappointment.. Easy fix for those who want the rumble.. I like to hear the horses under the hood. The hoses WILL deliver. The handling is great with the 50/50 weight distribution... If your looking for the battery.... Its in the Trunk... I really enjoy this Pontiac, Lots of performance mods available for those who want to catch a little more excitement since it is based on the Holden. I recommend it to anyone looking for a sleek sport sedan with a muscle car flex.

was a great buy / still feels new to me after 12 y
Pros

makes an old man feel a lot younger

Cons

no longer manufactured.

after 12 yrs of owner ship I still look forward to driving it. repair expenses have been very minimal. mostly changing oil, coolant, brake fluid wind shield wipers. still on original tires, which still look like they may be good for another 10/20 k. as the car approaches 50k I will be doing transmission fluid change, probably brake pads etc. things I would change front seats should have power recliners, passenger seat should have more rear travel, entertainment screen hard to read in the daytime. sorry not to many negatives, car is comfortable & reasonably economical for a 6 liter v8 averaging about 20.5 mpg in mixed driving. did have to replace my second battery about 6 months ago/.

Best car I’ve ever owned
Pros

Reliable, fun to drive, holds its value

Cons

None

Bought this car in December 2009 and couldn’t be happier. Only thing I’ve had to replace besides routine maintenance items was a faulty oil sensor that cost about $10 (replaced it myself). Car handles fantastic, great acceleration, very roomy, Stryker blue color and gas mileage averages about 21 mpg which isn’t bad for. 6.0 liter.

after a life time of new auto purchases 25+ .
Pros

does everything a car should do.

Cons

no longer manufactured.

best auto buy I have ever made, roomy -comfortable-reliable-peppy-reasonably economical v8-after 5 years still looks better than most new cars. original tires still look good for another 10+ k. minimal maintenance fluids & filters changed regularly. Always a pleasure to drive. resale value is fairly strong, & should be stronger. I follow the auto industry,& read most of new car reviews particularly the long term reviews. to purchase a comparable car would cost me over 50K $. I know parts will fail & things will go bad (it's a car). at 78 years old it should get me to he end of the road. my first pontiac what took me so long?
