Positive Review
Love this car. It is very fun to drive, easy to work on, always has been reliable. I've owned it for 2 years now, and I bought it used off of someone, not a dealership. I always swore I would never own a Neon, But after driving and owning a 5-speed, dual overhead cam, I LOVE it! It's fast, too!
Critical Review
A co-worker "donated" this car to me when my old Ford Bronco had kicked the bucket. I was a little wary, but finally picked it up. Now, I am told that when it comes to Neons, you either get a good one, which will last forever and ever, or you get a bad one... which are REALLY bad. I must have gotten a good one. In the three years I owned it, the only work I had to do was replace the timing belt and one fuel injector. Otherwise, it had it's quirks: sometimes the instrument panel wouldn't work or light up, until you opened the door -- THEN the speedometer would kick in. Directional would engage at random, and you'd have to turn them on and then off again to make it stop. The rear brakes locked up one day while I was in the middle of nowhere, so I actually removed all the brake hardware from the back wheels, cut the brake lines and closed them off with small vice grips, and then drove the car like that, using only the front (disc) brakes, for the next two years. Still ran like a champ. It always surprised me how, for such a little four cylinder engine, it actually had quite a bit of power to it, and could easily break 100 miles per hour on the highway (not that I ever actually did that, obviously, because that would be illegal). It was also surprisingly bad on gas. In the end, the radiator became clogged and started leaking antifreeze, and I had just bought a '93 Jeep Cherokee, so I didn't want to put the money into fixing the Neon. So, in the end... I liked MY Neon, but I would not recommend them to anyone else based solely on the fact that whether you get a good one or not is sort of a craps shoot.

Reliable
Manual windows, locks, and lights
Great car mechanically, and the one I have has a custom color and I love it. It does have some minor issues but what 20 year old car doesn't?
This car has had one owner (my Mom) and is in excellent shape..verify with local mechanic who has taken care of it since it's purchase in 1998.
fun to drive
No major problems with vehicle. It is old, has rust thru on right rear door. Perfect vehicle for teenager to work on.
Engine completely overhauled in 2012. Brand new battery, 2 brand new tires on rear. Every time I put the key in it starts no matter how cold it is. When it's hot out the a/c work's great! Has chips of paint gone on hood, rip in back seat (was that way when I bought it)
Quick. Agile. Comfy. Big trunk.
Weird electrical problems. Small. Bad on gas.

gas mileage, fun to drive, cheap,
no cup holder in the back, no power windows back
i've own this neon for 1 year. i first baught it from an elderly woman with 64,000 miles on it. my 1st car! This car is great on gas! cheap fill-ups. car runs great and very reliable. chrystler-dodge should make neon's again because the economy is down and neon's are very fuel efficient cars.
price, low maint, fun to drive
recall for oil leak was fixed, no problems since
2.0 DOHC 4 cyl, manual 5 shift, excellent acceleration. Sticks to the road on curves, little lean, great handling, short steering radius. Gas mileage 32 mpg, mostly highway. Bright white clear coat durable finish. No rust, fading or repaints.
great price, fun to drive, fast, cheap parts, easy
no cup holders, not easy on the eyes
