Positive Review
Freaking love this car.
Critical Review
I bought a 1994 with 130k on it and it was nothing but trouble. It had the 3.0 liter so it was fast but I was only able to put 10k on it before it broke. First the head gasket started to leak, then it wouldn't pass emissions. Finally, the power steering pump went out and before I could get home the pulley fell of the power steering pump leaving me with no way for the belt to drive the alternater. Therefore the battery died on me leaving me stranded at a park and ride. To top it all off, the transmission went out that same day but I didn't realize it until I had paid $600 to have the mechanic put in a new power steering pump. Then I realized the car would not shift out of second gear. My car is now a field beater and that seems to be the only thing its good for. Be warned; Chrysler used to make a pretty junky transmission so if you buy an acclaim with over a 100k and the transmission is the original then it will probably break on you.

Easy to drive, handles well.
None that I can mention!
I always bought new cars and this was my third new car, others all were lemons! I owned this car since 1993, no major problems except wear and tear repairs like brakes, a/c and normal maintenance. I still own this car and love it since the day I purchased it in 1993. It rides like Cadillac! Everyone who has been in it said it the most comfortable car they been in, they are amazed by the ride! I will never part with it unless the car is demolished, or I pass on. My brother said he wants it if I pass, lol. The car manufacturers back then make real gems when they made this 1993 ply acclaim! I have no desire to part with this car for any other new car, except if it’s a Rolls-Royce! Lol.
Smooth ride, good handling, reliable
Bad paint job, rust prone fr dr bottoms, hd gasket
Lost the car from being hit from being rear-ended. At 115K and 20 yrs of ownership, it did not make sense to repair. It was tough to give ratings. I gave relative ratings. For example, Quality: Interior/ex would be 10 for aethetics -except for Chryler's bad paint job. There were issues here and there with repairs, but that car never failed to start (even after not being started in sub-zero for over two wks) and never stranded me except a couple of times due to my own major failures at scheduled maintenance. Temp guage was buggy - possible needed a new head gasket. Cons outweighed by the fact that this was a solidly built car as opposed to what they are making today. Visibility outstanding - oppossed to the bizarre low visibility cars they are making nowadays. Driving dynamics: I have been driving rental cars while I shop for a new car and let me tell you, the 2015- 2016 Ford, Hondas, Chevys I have test-driven or rented have nothing on the suspension, handling, and braking of my Plymouth Acclaim. I realize some of what I hate about the newer cars is tied to newer safety standards, but some of it is just lack of maturity in sensible design and engineering, i.e. elective choices. I had the 2.5 4cyl, so I could have used more than 100hp, however, once on the highway, the acceleration was excellent. I had trouble parallel parking some of the rental cars. The Acclaim was very easy to park. A strange feel when making turns on the newer cars...something to do with turning radius? (not sure). Acclaim not as tight on turns (heavier car and other dynamics), however, it did not have that strange feel. Overall, I miss my Acclaim terribly. Chrysler should not have abanonded this mid-sized car segment, continued to build upon the excellent engineering effort they put into this car, ironed out kinks with quality and they could be beating Honda today in terms of reputation. Recommendation relative only to used car buyers -this a 20+yr ikd model
has been a good little car
AC is not felt in back, lots of little fixes
This was my first car, I got it from my grandmother. It is a good little thing I love the gas mileage! But as they age some problems surface, the radio quit about 10,000 miles ago, the AC has quit a few times but was easy and CHEAP to fix. It has been reliable, but because I do a lot of highway driving it is beginning to show its age, all in all it has been a good little car over the years!
handles great, great price, great gas mileage,
no cup holders
I owned my Acclaim it was my first car. the gas mileage was exceptional great handling no engine problems great for winter and summer. very nice interior doesn't dirty easy. it was the most fantastic car I could ever ask for im actually looking to buy a new one and replace the car I have now.
Low cost of ownership. Solid construction. Roomy.
High weight and gas consumption.
Bought this car for $5k in 2000. Been driving it ever since. All of the standard issues happened around 100k mark. New steering pump, new radiator pump, new brakes. Transmission rebuilt around 150k, as well as a catalytic converter replaced. Small electrical issues here and there with connectors rusting up, requiring cleaning. All 4 speakers had to be replaced one by one. Leaks about 1L of oil between scheduled changes (out of 4.5L total 10w30), which is nothing for an American car over 20 years old. Very roomy. Easy to get out of passenger side if parked too close to obstacles. Lots of cargo space. The only part that has developed rust is the exhaust pipe. The rest of the body is completely rust free. Good quality metal. 1.6 tons of it ensure SUV-like gas consumption, which is the main negative. The weight results in a lot of momentum. It's a sedan that drives (and brakes) like a tank. ABS will be kicking in quite often if you're not gentle with the pedal. Will own it for as long as it serves me. Will hate to see it go.
few dents in hood but other than that i keep up with maintence and fluids in it
It also has remote start and auto locks, alarm system.
strong engine,and transmission
head liner falling down, plain jane inside
Bought this car at a car auction for $500.00,best money spent, same engine and transmission!!!!One head gasket,2 sets of tires, complete brake service, and fuel pump, but hey what more can you ask for?Paint still great,.213,000 miles and still rollin.
