McLaren Recall History
McLaren doesn’t build a lot of cars, so its recall numbers are fairly low. Still, even with a six-digit price tag, these exotic performance cars couldn’t escape the all- encompassing Takata airbag recall.
Two recalls were issued, once in 2017 and again in 2018, covering the 2012-2013 MP4 12-C. At issue are the passenger side Takata airbags that, in the event of deployment, may have inflators that rupture. Should this occur, metal fragments may strike the vehicle occupants. The completion rate as of May 2018 was 35 percent.
In 2015, McLaren recalled 122 2014-2015 P1 hybrid vehicles. A secondary hood latch may not properly re-engage, allowing the hood to come open at high speeds. As of August 2017, the completion rate for this recall was 93.4 percent.
The only other recall occurred in 2013 and involved 376 2012-2014 MP4 12-C Coupe and Spyder vehicles. Under conditions with high ambient temperatures and high humidity, the wiper motor brushes may jam causing the wipers to cease working. By December 2014, the completion rate was 76.8 percent.
