Toyota is part of significant recalls including Takata airbag inflators and other manufacturing or safety issues. The campaigns affect a wide range of vehicles across the auto maker’s lineup.

Approximately 4.5-million Toyota vehicles built between 2003 and 2016 including the Toyota 4Runner, Corolla, Corolla Matrix, Rav4, Sequoia, Sienna, Tundra, Yaris Hatchback, Yaris Sedan, Tundra, and Scion xB vehicles are being recalled because of safety issues. According to NHTSA, upon deployment, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture, possibly resulting in metal fragments striking vehicle occupants. While Toyota has divided affected vehicles into the regions they were originally registered in, we recommend consulting NHTSA for up-to-date information. As of April 2018, the completion rate for repairs was 63.5 percent.

A total of 30,812 Toyota Avalon models manufactured between 2012-2015 were recalled if equipped with a pre-collision system. The PCS would engage if its radar detected a steel joint or plate in the roadway as an object, stopping the vehicle and making it susceptible in a crash. There is currently an 84 percent completion rate on this recall.

The 2017-2018 Toyota Tundra and 2018 Toyota Sequoia (8,800) were recalled for improperly bolted left rear seats which could lead to an increase of injury in a crash. It has a completion rate of 15 percent. Additionally, 65,000 Tundras and Sequoias were recalled for the possibility the Vehicle Stability Control System may turn off, affecting other systems and displaying improper alerts. As of April 2018, this recall had a completion rate of 52 percent.

Nearly 49,000 model year 2016 Toyota Prius vehicles were recalled due to a faulty side and curtain airbag system that may cause it to not deploy in the case of an incident. Any non-deployment could result in risk of injury to the vehicle’s occupants. It currently has a recall completion rate of 0.2 percent.
