Among the Ford vehicles that have been recalled in the past few years are the Ford F-150, Fusion, Escape, Explorer, Edge and Mustang. Since the Ford F-Series pickups have the largest selling vehicle in the U.S. market for decades, chances are higher than slower selling models that they will be involved in a recall.
A recall has been issued by Ford for about 2 million 2015-18 Ford F-150 Regular Cab and SuperCrew Cab pickups for a defect in the driver and front passenger seat belt pretensioners that could cause fires. The affected vehicles were sold in North America. The pretensioners tighten the seatbelts in the event of a collision and the company found that some units could generate sparks when deployed. Gases released by the system in a deployment may ignite in the lower portion of the B-pillar and surrounding insulation and carpet could catch fire.
There are reports of 17 incidents of smoke or fire in the U.S. and six in Canada, however, Ford says it is not aware of any accidents or injuries as a result of the defect.

There are approximately 1,995,776 vehicles in North America relating to this concern, with 1,619,112 vehicles in the United States and its federalized territories, 339,884 in Canada and 36,780 in Mexico. The Ford reference number for this recall is 18S27.
Ford recalled almost 350,000 2018 F-150 and Expedition vehicles with 10-speeed automatic transmissions and 2018 F-650 and F-750 pickups with 6-speed automatic transmissions for an unseated gear shift cable clip. The affected vehicles may have a clip that does not completely hold the gear shift in place, possibly resulting in the driver placing the vehicle in park when the vehicle could still be able to move.
Ford also issued a similar recall for approximately 550,000 2013-16 model year Ford Fusion and 2013-14 Ford Escape vehicles. Affected vehicles may have a bushing joining the shifter cable to the transmission that is detached allowing the vehicle to move when the transmission indicates it is in park. Dealers will replace the shifter cable bushing at no cost to the customer. Owners should use their parking brake.
In 2016, a recall for 2017 Ford F-250 SD, F-350 SD, F-450 SD and F-550 SD trucks was issued dealing with the diesel fuel system. A protective shield on the fuel module could become dislodged resulting in a potential fuel leak and fire risk. As of April 2018, 74.7 percent of trucks have been fixed according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Certain 2016-2017 Ford Edge vehicles had airbags that either would not fully inflate or the cushion would detach from the air bag module. The completion rate for over 27,000 vehicles was at 81.4 percent as of April 2018.
Over a million Ford Fusion vehicles built between 2013-2018 have been recalled for potentially loose steering wheel bolts that could result in the steering wheel becoming detached. Ford is aware of two accidents related to the problem, with one resulting in injury. Customers can go to dealers where a larger bolt will be inserted to fix the issue at no cost.
