"Great for the money"

I bought this vehicle for my wife who travels over 30 miles to work. She loves it. I drive a 2006 Nissan Altima that is a better fit for me. I am 6'2" and 260lbs. The Verssa has a surprising amount of space especially the back seat and trunk. I like the fact that the car has anti lock brakes and stability anti skid electronic braking. Also it has 6 air bags so I feel it is safe for my wife. The ride is excellent and well damped. It is hard to believe this car only weighs 2500 lbs. My wife is not an aggressive driver and is getting a little over 43 miles per gallon. It has dramatically cut our fuel bill. A couple of complaints. One is you have to buy the top SL model to get the rear folding seats. Also there is no center arm rest. Lastly the cup holder in front of the shift hits my lower leg and is uncomfortable to the point that when I drive I must put a pillow between it and my leg. I really wish Nissan would address this annoyance. If you like good handling cars look elsewhere. The handling is competent and secure but not exciting. Other than that great little car. Very solid feel and good quality. For the money it is hard to beat. thanks for reading Ralph

Critical Review

"Decent car for what it is."

I purchased this car after being in an accident where I was hit in the back and the insurance company decided to total my car. I did not want to make car payments so I was looking for the least expensive new car I could find and that turned out to be the Nissan Versa S. I have been driving the car for about a month and what I can say is that the car starts every time I turn the ignition and it gets me where I want to go. It is surprisingly roomy as far as head room and room in the back. This car has a 5 speed manual transmission and I find that I drive in 5th gear most of the time as it get to over 3K RPM's by the time you are doing 40 MPH in 4th gear. The car after 3 fuel fill ups is averaging about 35 MPG combined highway and city. Now let me describe the down side of owing this car. This trim besides the A/C, Bluetooth and steering wheel controls for the stereo has no common amenities you would expect in any car made in the past 20 years by a major car company. It has no center storage console or any nice little storage place for things like sunglasses. It does have a crazy deep glove compartment where anything you put in it gets lost. It does not have a trunk release (key only). It has one key lock on the drivers door which makes locking and unlocking the back doors very difficult, especially the way the door locks are designed being put near the inside door handle. The thing that is taking the most getting use to for me is how the gas peddle is so close to the center dashboard column, my right leg rests against this column while driving and it is just not very comfortable. I would have purchased power door locks if that were an option on this trim model but I would have had to go up 2 trim models to get this one feature and I didn't want to pay an extra $3,000 - $4,000 since the goal was to pay as little as possible. I am going to put in some after market power door locks and trunk release to make the car a bit nicer to drive. I am also experimenting with after market center consoles for storage and an arm rest. I also found an interesting little device that fits in a cup holder that has 2 USB ports and 2 12 volt power ports that I can plug into the one existing power port behind the hand brake. It was almost like the people that engineered this car went out of their way to take out any and all of the little amenities that most of us take for grant it in any car. Even the steering wheel controls are ergonomically so badly placed to make them almost unusable. I would have given up those controls and the Bluetooth in a second for what I consider the standard amenities that I have described. All in all the car works for transportation to get from point A to point B but if you drive a lot I would not recommend it, at least not this low end S trim model as it lacks almost any of the creature comforts that most of us spoiled Americans have come to expect in a new car.

GREAT CAR

This car has ALWAYS been reliable. No accidents. Runs like a champ. I think I just broke it in and it's ready for it's best years to come. Considering a private sale very soon. I want a manual transmission.

Great little car

I bought my car in 2019 brand new it has almost 90k on it now all I've done has been regular maintenance I've replaced front brakes, tires, alternator belt, oil changes, transmission fluid which is very important to do this because of the cvt transmission, but all stuff yo expect or should be doing I still have original battery in this car!!! expect to be changing it soon 😂 the only issue I had with it besides maintenance was a small transmission leak which was coming from a small hole in the transmission lines do to rust replaced the lines and no issues since overall it's been A great car and would recommend buying one

Best overall car I have ever owned

Pros

Low price but feels expensive

Cons

Would like to have a convertible version

I love my 2017 Versa SV. It is well built, it gets incredible gas mileage, it is comfortable, rides good, really fun to drive. I think it is also a good looking car. I traded in a gas guzzler for the car and I calculate I have saved $4,000 in gasoline bills so far. Since my price with trade in was $4,000, the Versa was free. No repairs at all. Just a really nice car. Glad I bought it.

Pro/con
Pros

Grt fuel economy 42-54 mpg ave. Good acceleration & handling.

Cons

Heat/AC blows weak not enough vents & center vents dont adjust well. Seats uncomfortable.

Good little car. Great commuter! Gets 40-52 mpg avg. Good acceleration & handling. Stereo decent. Heat/AC blower weak and not enough vents. Center dash vent dont angle well. Seats are NOT comfortable. No room for a big person. These cars start having transmission failures around 105k miles. Mine started @ 135k still going but has a little slip when starting from a dead stop. Gonna be selling soon, maybe 1500. I will put that towards newer car.

Not good for the year made
Pros

None

Cons

The car itself

This car is way behind times. Hand cranked windows, no cruise control. Has no get up and go. Has been in the shop 3 times after buying it. What a waste of money. Should have been smart and stayed with Toyota.

Pros

Operator friendly Handles well

Cons

Transmission Catalytic converter Expensive repairs

I got the Versa Note SV at 110,000 miles. I will say, it's fun and easy to drive. It takes turns like a champ, and the radio/display (which stopped working before it hit 100k miles) is easy to understand. I'm not sure if the previous owners took care of it (I doubt it), but it's stuck its hand in my pockets since I got it. I replaced the serpentine belt at 112,000 miles ($160). Then, the catalytic converter and battery at 120,000ish miles ($2,700). Needs timed maintenance stuff like shocks. Now, I'm at 128,000 miles, and my transmission is giving out. It "shifts" incredibly rough, if at all. It rarely "shifts" on its own, I have to remove my foot from the gas (transmission replacement quoted at $6,000 by Nissan dealership). It grinds gears if I push it to 3k rpms. It's never left me stranded, and that's honestly a miracle.

I just wanted a quick BBV for my vehicle before I try to sell it. The price they gave me was exactly what I wanted and ik what I can sell it for.
