"Like a part of the family"

I had a 1991 Pathfinder Red like the picture above in my family for three generations. The last person to drive it was born in 1990. She hit the back of a U-haul truck that suddenly stopped in front of her and damaged the head light assembly, pushed the fender in and scratched the hood. At this point the rust/rot was bad enough not to fix it. It was a very sad day when we drover her to the junkyard :( She was a good old friend. She was very versatile but, not very good on gas. She was a looker. I changed the timing belt apporx every 60k miles, and needed a new transmission at 140,000. She moved cargo on roof racks, barreled through snow with 4 wheel drive, drove country streets, city streets in NY, as well as back roads. There wasn't anything this faithful truck couldn't do that was asked of her. She carried a child from an infant; and, when that child learned to drive, she was her one and only. In 20 years this Pathfinder served us all well.

Critical Review

"I like it, I don't love it, not gas economical."

I hate the lack of gas efficiency, i'm very very frugal, but I love that it passes the California smog check each and everytime (unlike my 1991 Honda Accord),despite that i've owned it since 2003, and I love the comfort.

Unbelievable how long my baby has lasted

My first pathfinder was a 1995 model that I purchased used. It is still running like a champ 30 years later. I bought a new pathfinder in 2004 -- and she is also still running great. I doubt I will ever purchase anything but a pathfinder -- but, considering how old I am, the chances of purchasing another car are pretty remote. In fact, I've advised my son to plant me in one of the pathfinders when I kick the bucket. Think of how much we'll save not having to purchase a coffin. You just cannot beat a Nissan Pathfinder!!!!!

Best rig by far

I’ve enjoyed my ‘93 Pathfinder in every way and know I’ll never find a truck this good again. After over 25 years, it’s engine is still going strong and gets me where I need to go. I know it’s not the most comfortable ride and truth be told, it never was, but this truck is awesome in every other way.

Amazing Truck, wish they were still being made
Pros

Durability, chucky styling, 4WD

Cons

Prone to rusting, poor gas mileage

Honestly the best vehicle hands down that I have ever owned. It wasn't the flashiest or the fastest but it was built tough and reliable. I loved the boxy/chunky look. It wasn't perfect, living in the salt belt keeping up with annual undercoating was a must. Without it on a real quiet night you would probably be able to hear the pathfinder rusting. Even with annual oil spraying, rust was the major killer of these things. The exhaust studs had a tendency of breaking...easy job in theory to repair but a bugger within the tight engine bay. The 3.0L V6 was an absolute beast but in these trucks it is not going to blow your hair back with acceleration. There is plenty of usable power and it will easily keep up with traffic and cruise any road all day long but is seems everyone has an obsession with neck snapping launches these days...if that is what you are about this truck will leave you wanting. Long troublefree miles...I honestly wish Nissan still made this exact truck as a new model. I would buy one no questions asked. Sadly the current Nissan offerings are nothing like the mighty old WD-21 pathfinders. They are now focused on throwaway cars with a 5 year obsolescence engineered into the vehicles. Closest you can find is a first gen xterra 2000-2004.

First and last owner!
Pros

Not a very strong V6

Cons

Rear gate hydrolics could have been made better.

I've had my Pathfinder for 22 years with 155K miles. It sat in storage for 5 years while I was overseas and started right up. I replaced the radiator, gas tank, windshield wiper fluid motor, and transmission. The engine runs great so replacing the transmission has paid off.
