"Not too shabby"

I got this car as a hand-me-down from a relative at about 100,000 miles last winter. Needed a new transmission when I got it, but since has been great. I't's phenomenal on gas for a car that is 15 years old. I get an avg of 23-25 mpg in the suburbs. No other real mechanical problems and I've only taken it to the shop for inspection in the 15 months. The only things I don't like are that it's a little weak (has some trouble on hills, but gets through them), it doesn't have cruise control, and when you put something in the cup holders, you can't use the radio.

GREAT on gas, reliable, comfortable

Cons

Great go getter
Pros

Gas Saver

Cons

Cup Holders. Seat belts aren't great.

This car is a strong running vehicle even for the mileage it has on it. Handling is so/so. AWESOME ON GAS! $20 at a half tank brings it well over full.

Very Reliable
Pros

Reliability and MPG

Cons

Top has rust spot issues right above the windsheild.....

I am a second owner who took over at 70000 miles and had to replace the head gasket and overhaul transmission. Both problems due to original owner not taking care of servicing the car as needed. Since then all I have had to do is change oil, transmission fluid and tires. I get average 30 MPG with the A/C shooting ice cubes and 34-35 MPG in the winter time... very very economical and reliable car for me just not luxurious enough for the wife!

3 typical problems
Pros

cheap car

Cons

top rots out , exhaust manifold cracks ,if fly wheel is breaking requires engine crankshalt repair

1.The inner metal ribs that give support to the top of the passenger compartment causes the top to rot out . 2.loud knock metal to metal check the fly wheel , cracked or broken . the problem is free play at the crankshaft . 3.exhaust manifolds cracks- replace with a header will solve this plus give you more power to that 1.5 engine .

Great investment

Bought it in 1999 from a dealear for $4500 at 28K miles. Now 100K, only had to replace radiator once and timing belt once. Still rides great, and over 35 MPG. Clutch may slip in steep, long hills. Interior is not the most comfortable. Other than that, it's a great conmuting car. Wouldn't use for long trips, though.
