Critical Review

"mb vs lex"

When it is "on" it is a blast.Too much aggravation. These cars are so over enginered that it is a gamble to own it. My Lexus had 39k when I bought it,and 215k now,all trouble free. I bought the MB wagon on a whim and regret the decision.Always somthing...

You get a $113,000 Quality at a $1,000 price
Pros

Fun, Cheap, Road trip ready, Reliable

Cons

Old benz issues. Electrics, Rubber bits, ETC..

Back in '92 these wagons / estates would go for 62K which is $113,000 in todays money. So for a grand today you can buy a six figure ride that will bounce like a 70s land yacht and outpace a good number of cars today. ( guy in a suped up F150 tried to race me on the highway and I outpaced him past 120 and decided I didn't want to crush his ego and beat him) Anyways this I6 will rock your world with its 3 Liters of speed. Cruises at 100+ the the same as at 35. Its got room to haul and roadtrip and I've taken mine on a 800 mile journey and it preformed like a dream. It will grip the road and hug the turns like you expect from a old benz and has a styling and comfort you cant beat even today. Simple to work on yourself if you know how to handle an aging mercedes. The electrics will be the only thing that you'll want to worry about and other rubber bits holding on the fuel system and muffler. But I've daily driven mine and put more than 10k on it in the last few months and it's been nothing but reliable to me. Just make sure you know what you're doing when buying them because for a 500 buck difference you can get a money pit lemon or one like mine that is as close to perfect as a 26 year old benz with 232,000 miles can be.

Last of the classics
Pros

Capable handling and no-frills comfort

Cons

None for me

I have owned this 'over-engineered' car for three years and continue to be amazed at the high quality and level of technical development of the late 70s and early 80s evident in this early 90s car. They don't make 'em like they used to!

My 1992 300TE 4MATIC Wagon
Pros

Drive one and you will see!

Cons

mpg low and no cup holders

Mercedes continues to prove itself time and time again. I"m the third owner of this vehicle. Yes, it has been expensive to up keep all these years as per the previous records and when I purchased it I had to put 3k into it to have it perfect! The ratings tell the whole story but between you and me these cars should be purchased as a second hand car. The MSRP is way too high as many cars today are. This car does many things that most current cars can't. Once you are in it you feel SAFE! Its so comfortable that you can drive for hours before ever needing a break. It loves the highway and keeps up easily with all those econo boxes out there. All family members have plenty of room and each time someone rides in my wagon they always compliment the ride. This is a wise choice when it comes to wagons, but realize that Mercedes do cost a pretty penny to keep on the road and the older they get the more repairs are needed. But, when you keep up with all that needs to be done you have one HECK of a vehicle. I"m so happy with my recent purchase I"m trying to convince family members to purchase older Mercedes to share the pleasurable experience. Hope this write up helps. Happy Motoring

Great Car

I have owned my teal colored wagon for 12 years. I purchased it from my brother-in-law in 1998 and it had 98,000 miles on it. It currently has 314,000 miles and rides better than my 2007 Toyota Camry. I love it's style and reliability. Parts are expensive but performance is amazing. This car originally sold for $58,000 in 1991. It was worth it!!!!! My mechanic, who is German, said this model was best mercedes made.

Great Car

I have had this 1991 Wagon for years. Bought used with 50k miles and daughter drove through high school. Safest car on the road. I have kept to use to haul stuff and as a back up for the last 6 years and it is a great car, much better than the 94 wagon I bought new.
