Positive Review
The PHEV seems to have some issues but the 3.3T has been great. There are some infotainment and styling quirks like other cars, but nothing that’s too detracting. The drive is great. Plenty of power hauling a family of 4, dogs, 4 bikes, roof storage going up mountains. The rwd biased AWD works great. The inline 6 is smooth. Nice handling. Transmission was a little rough, but after the software update, feels much better. Exterior styling is nice. Interior could use a little more room. Mazda focused on a long elegant hood line to house a I6 that leaves less cabin room. Gas mileage has been high 20’s. It will do over 30 highway if you’re gentle. Overall I’d say 4.5/5.
Critical Review
I have had this vehicle for 4 months, and it has spent more time in the service department for squealing noise, every time I go to brake. All the Mazda Tech at the Corporations tell the techs at dealership to do, is grease the brakes and shave down my rotors even more, and that will fix the problem. Needless, to say, the day after getting it out of the service shop, the noise came back and then my I-Active Sensor came on and disabled all of the safety feature on the vehicle. So, I had to take it back to the service shop at the dealership, only for them to be told, to do the same ting, again, grease the brakes and shave down the rotors even more. However, we are talking about a vehicle that has less than 3,000 miles on it. This is the first Mazda I have ever owned, and will be last Mazda I will own. Mazda does not stand behind the products they build, as I have contacted the Corporate office, several times regarding the problems I have had and have not received any help.

Looks good and works great when not in the shop
After 48000 miles Gremlins have appeared.
This is nice vehicle, but with 48000 mile the gremlins have come out and are growing. First the I-Stop Battery, second the electronic fuel pump, then the electronic water pump. I am afraid at what is next. f you want to get a vehicle that is good and reliable don't get the first generation of a vehicle.
Sporty yet comfortable ride, all the bells and whistles.
None yet.
We've only owned the car for a month but really like everything about it so far. It's got all the features we like, quiet ride, smooth acceleration, awd and plenty of room.
Not a full touch screen in normal mode
I recently leased a CX90 Phev to replace my 2 year old CX50. I traded in early since I knew I wanted a plug in hybrid (had an EV for 4 months and traded that for the CX50). I was concerned about losing the tax credit incentive, which is sadly going away, a real shame not just for EVs but also solar and other earth friendly incentives. I would really give the car 4.5 stars, knocking off some for the display which I feel should be a full touch screen not just while using a paired cell phone. Beyond that I can't find much to complain about. My CX90 is the top of the line, so it's not really missing anything. Foot activated tail gate, self locking by walking away, radar cruise control, semi automated driving means a relaxed drive on the freeway, heads up display, automatic stopping and starting in heavy traffic, beautifully appointed interior, I have had many people comment on the car and it's looks at the car wash. I had a Stage 2 charger installed in my garage, it takes about 2 hours to completely charge the car from zero to full charge. When I charge it to 100%, knowing the next day I will be running out the battery back to zero, it typically gives me about 30 miles range on EV only according to info display. Typically I am averaging about 44 miles per gallon on a typical 80 mile commute twice a week. That's combined City and Freeway. If I am running errands locally the vehicle rarely uses any gas, instead running the entire time on battery. Love the car, love all of the features on the car including while cruising down the highway if I see the battery level gets down to about a 4 mile range and I have city driving not freeway driving at my destination, I will press the charging switch which will divert some of the power to the EV battery to charge back up. The downside is you use a bit more gas in doing this, but I can add 3 to 4 more EV miles in a short period of time. This allows for driving in just EV mode. All in all, the car handles great, it's a comfortable ride with selectable ride modes and great fit and finishes. I expect to hang on to this after the lease ends unless Mazda comes up with something better.
I traded a 2024 Levante for my cx90. It has great style, options, room, power and comfort. Guess I got a good one because I love everything about my xc90.

This car looks beautiful and does have some nice features but has had way too many recalls with several involving safety. Another big hitter....the depreciation. Our car's value dropped by close to 20,000 dollars in a year and a half. This has been my worst experience purchasing a new vehicle. This was also my first and last time owning a Mazda.
At first glance and on test drive, the car is beautiful. I got the top of the line Turbo S premium plus. Then…you pay for it and a month later you discover everything that’s wrong with it: 1. My garage opener won’t pair with the car’s garage opening button. I’ve tried. Many times. And I am a handy and smart person. My husband also did some research on the internet and could not get it to work. We’ve had other cars paired w absolutely no issue. 2. The wireless charger basically never charges your phone and overheats it. When your phone is on the charger and you accelerate the phone comes flying out at you. 3. The cup holders won’t hold my Owala bottle. 4. The second row seat is hard to move forward to get someone into the back 5. One day I discovered that my rear view mirror didn’t turn back up after backing out of my driveway - nearly caused an accident. 6. When my sunglasses are in the sunglass holder, it makes a rattling noise against the plastic and makes the car sound cheap. 7. WORST offender : my brakes consistently squeal at slow brakes and I am told that it is what it is by mazda service and also customer experience rep. Apparently this has been an issue with the cx-90s (google it). Great so now I have a $61k car that sounds 20 years old wherever I go. So embarrassing and ridiculous. Not to mention headache-inducing. After being a solid Honda and Toyota owner for years, I will never get another Mazda again.
Many options, quiet, comfortable, large cargo space, 35 MPG, many safety options, Large 21" Wheels, plastic underccariage protec
I would like more mileage on EV mode.
The CX-90 PHEV has amazing value. It has more options than a Premium Cadillac XT6. The car is very quiet and comfortable. The two rows seat fold and offer great cargo space. The SUV has a classic look and appears quite beefy with the front grill. I am getting a total of 35 mpg with gas and EV motor. Agree, the Japanese are known to produce great quality cars. They also have the best compact tractor in the industry, Kubota.
