Car Care Help!

Q: How do I change a tire?

A: Park on a flat surface off of the road and turn on your hazard lights. Loosen the lug nuts slightly before lifting the car with a jack. Remove the flat tire, mount the spare, hand-tighten the lug nuts, lower the car, and then fully tighten them in a crisscross pattern. Read our in-depth guide here.

Q: How to jump-start a car?

A: Park the working car close to the dead one and turn both off. Connect the red cable to the positive (+) post of the dead battery, and the other red cable to the positive (+) post of the good battery. Attach the black clamp to the negative (–) post of the good battery, and the other black clamp to a metal ground on the dead car. Start the working car, wait a minute, then start the dead car. Remove the cables in reverse order. Read our full guide here.

Q: How often should I change my oil?

A: Most vehicles need an oil change every 3,000 to 7,500 miles, depending on oil type and driving habits. Always check your owner’s manual for the manufacturer’s recommendation. Newer cars with synthetic oil may go up to 10,000 miles between changes. Learn more here.
