Critical Review
I just purchased this car and within a week received multiple error messages -- "Battery Management System" and "Hybrid System" notifications. I took it to the local dealer who said it looks like the hybrid battery requires replacement (one cell showing no power) however nothing can be done in terms of servicing until the dealer hears more from Kia corporate. Since this is the first year that Kia has made the Sorento PHEV I'm worried that they haven't figured out all the kinks and now I'm stuck without a car as they figure it out. We've never owned a Kia before but had heard great thinks about performance and reliability. My advice would be to wait to see if this hybrid battery issue has a broader reach beyond my one-off issue because it is not fun to pay almost $50K for a car that breaks down in the first week!!

No
Engine, Transmission, Etc
Bad resale value reputation. Engine, transmission is all junk. Gasoline vehicles are also taking a noise dive. It's best to walk away, before purchasing this lemon. This is a true review. These are not a good vehicle choice.
Style, Power, Performance
No Spare Tire
My 2021 Kia Sorenson EX AWD was a very nice car to own plenty of power and a smooth ride . 2 recalls made it even better in the beginning I also purchased another Kia Sorento 2024 X Line SW Prestige .
Comfortable and quiet. Great MPGs
3rd Row seats are difficult to access
Excellent City MPG (40+) and Highway MPG (37+). Comfortable and quiet. Good acceleration. Attractive. Superb workmanship. Great buy. Highly recommend.
Dependable and comfortable
Love this Sorento. Have not been disappointed yet. Rides very smooth and we like the 3rd row sitting. Went on a few long trips and actually got 29 mpg hwy. It is the SX trim that has the 2.5 turbo engine and responds very well that gives you the power when you need it. The heated seats are very comfortable with excellent lumbar support. I would recommend this vehicle.
looks great, great tech
not reliable, loss of power
BE CAUTION WHEN LOOKING AT THIS VEHICLE! Driving to work, only the second time I drove my 2023 Kia Sorento EX X-Line, it went limp after trying to accelerate from a stopped position at a stop sign. I thought that was odd, but maybe just a hiccup from it being new. Driving home from work that night, only the third time driving the vehicle, I was stopped at a red light and when it was time to go I accelerated like normal and the car completely turned off on me. The headlights, dash board, computer screen, power, everything turned off while I was driving in the dark at rush hour. I had owned the car for less than 48 hours before heading to the dealership to unwind the deal and return the car. I loved how the Sorento looked inside and out and thought it would be a good car being new, but couldn't risk it happening again. After some research after the fact, I found alot of people have experienced this as well.
soft, safe ride
hard to get in 3rd row seats
low mileage, no smoking, clean Got side-swiped & needs some front right side repair left, front quarter panel. Is running great, regular oil changes
Features
Everything else
I bought the 2022 kia sorento X Xline, 4cyl, 191hp. TRANSMISSION -❌️ is garbage, feels like your in a little sports car, jerking motion. ENGINE -❌️ no power, doesn't turn off sometimes, you have to wait the 30 minutes for the timer to run out in order for it to turn off. ALARM- ❌️50% of the time you can't lock the doors. AWD -❌️ Is a joke, my 2015 Ford explorer and Expedition was 100 times better and that's from a 8yr old SUV. And the locking differential doesn't work unless you go below 19mph, Explorers and Expeditions you can do 40 and it's a true 4x4. MARK UPS ON PRICE ❌️ - Is crazy, this is no more than a $25,000 vehicle at best. Not $45,000 or $35,000, their crazy. This will be going back and I will get another Ford(Bronco) or a Jeep, don't get this if you think you're going to do a little offloading, it can't even do that. FEATURES - ✅️ Features are good, blind spot, sunroof goes back up to the 2nd row and opens all way, and a few other things.
Great mileage without sacrificing comfort or space
Infotainment system iffy; upholstery aging poorly
I've had this vehicle for almost a year now. I was hesitant to buy a Kia based on a number of anecdotal horror stories, but I needed a 3-row hybrid on short notice for a school carpool--I just couldn't bear burning gas while sitting in a carline--and this was about the only one I could find so here we are. Overall, I've been pleasantly surprised. It feels solid the way older Kias decidedly do not, it drives very smoothly, and now that I've figured out how to work with the electric/gas engine transition points I can get well over 40mpg in the city, which is 75% of my driving. Mileage does dip a bit in the winter when the gas engine is required to heat the cabin, but even then I've not had a tank below 37. A couple things I do not love: --The beige faux-leather upholstery is comfy in all weather, but it's not wearing particularly well. It already looks worn and a bit faded. --The fact that Apple CarPlay only works when the phone is physically attached via USB is maddening. My last car was a 2017 and CarPlay worked flawlessly via bluetooth. Kia service says there will be an update for this "in a few months," but that was 11 months ago and still nothing...and it will probably come with a hefty price tag. --There is an unnatural delay every time you touch any "button" on the touchscreen, be it the permanent options to the left and right of the screen or live code-driven buttons, before there is any response. I've gotten used to it, but for the first few weeks it was pretty annoying, especially when driving. Now, when I want to, say, change from radio to navigation I'll just touch "nav", look back at the road, and then it'll be there when I look back. Seems like this is something they can fix in future models, and perhaps even with a firmware update. --I live in a mountainous region, and sometimes the transition from electric to gas at slow speeds going uphill can be very herky-jerky. You basically stop going forward for a beat and then lurch onward when the gas kicks in. It's not a big deal and overall the transitions are VERY smooth, but this does happen regularly in that one particular situation. If you don't have occasion to drive very slowly up steep hills, this will never come up. All in all, it's a better car than I thought I was getting and I feel like the $41K sticker is reasonable (it's the EX trimline with all the cool stuff). I had to pay a little bit above that because this was the only EX hybrid available this side of the Mississippi when I needed to buy it, but I imagine those days are over as it looks like there is plenty of inventory today.
