I never owned a domestic vehicle and never thought I would either, until I saw the Renegade. I took a test ride and that's all it took for me. For reference, I owned 2 Honda, 1 Toyota, and 1 VW in the past 11 years and they were all brand new. I was looking for a AWD/4x4 vehicle for the nasty winter commute here in the Northeast and occasional camping trips. My shopping criteria was a short list: Good fuel mileage and some mild off-road capability. Only a handful of small SUV fit the bill. My choices were between Subaru XV Crosstrek and Jeep Renegade. I am not going to write much about the Subaru but all I am going to say is... under-powered and lack of details, compared to the Renegade. Interior- Unlike most domestic vehicles, there a lot of details in the interior design, such as illuminated cup holders and center console. No squeaky panels, no saggy seat cushions, no one-piece dash or one-piece door panel. Seats are as comfortable and supportive as my 2008 Passat. Forward visibility is great, similar to driving a Cube/ Soul. Road noise is minimal considering it as a SUV. The instrument panel with built-in LCD screen is very informative with intuitive lay out. I was able to get used to in within minutes of driving it. Infotainment system with touch screen is very intuitive and easy to navigate while driving. I love how the car can stream music from my phone via Bluetooth without touching my phone. Sound quality is also impressive considering it is just standard equipment on a "entry level" vehicle. Exterior- Paint quality is good. On-par with all my previous vehicles. Plenty of design details. I love the overall design of the vehicle. Engine- Relatively quiet for a "domestic" vehicle; it roars quite a bit under hard acceleration, in a good way. I know, it's an Italian Fiat Multiair engine! Plenty of power to pass other vehicles on the interstate. Transmission is probably the biggest let-down of the vehicle. There is a noticeable lag and hesitation in gear change under "spirited" acceleration, however, it's smooth enough and tolerable. Performance- Agile would be the best word to describe its performance. Steering is accurate and nicely weighed although lacks feedbacks of a sport sedan or luxury crossover. Body-roll under spirited driving is well controlled... especially considering it's a JEEP! I have not yet driven in snow yet. However, I drove it off the dealership lot in pouring rain. I got the chance to push it a little bit through some back roads in heavy rain. Not once I felt the traction control or ABS kicked in, and the vehicle didn't slide during sharp turns. Body panels did not make any rattling noise on rough road surfaces. Fuel economy- In the past 300 miles, I was able to achieve 27 miles average. I was getting 30mpg on the interstate around 65mph. I would expect gas mileage slightly improve as the engine breaks in. Not as good as the Subaru but the Renegade does have 40 extra HP and 400cc bigger engine. Overall- I am very impressed with how Jeep come out with such a great product. It's a perfect blend of ruggedness, performance, comfort, and style. Let's face it, we all want a Wrangler at some point in life but can't justify the fuel efficiency, comfort, or practicality for everyday commute. And Jeep finally gave us a perfect compromise. Trade-in value and reliability are the only 2 concerns I have at this point and only time will tell.
Critical Review
This jeep renegade started to use a quart of oil every 1000 miles at 20000. After consulting two dealerships they said that is normal for this particular motor. Not putting any blame on dealerships but that response is unacceptable from Chrysler jeep. Definitely going to be my last jeep

I've had two renegades, 2021 and 2023 models both the basic trim (Latitude). When I got the first car, I chose to lease it because I was a brand new driver and did not have much knowledge on cars nor had enough experience to know what I wanted. I ended up having to turn the car in early due to running out of mileage and had to choose between a second renegade or a jeep compass as I could not afford any other payments at the time due to the interest rates being insane. I will admit my first mistake was getting a lease in the first place, but this car has screwed me over constantly since I got it. First maybe 10-15k miles were not too bad. Progressively over the last 20k miles now that I am at ~34k the acceleration in the car is almost non existent unless you slam the gas (an issue I had with my first renegade) and the car just overall runs very shaky. I have notified my dealer and mechanics about this every time I go but they claim it is just "the way the engine ages" and there are no issues. My 2010 subaru I got from my dead grandmother runs exponentially better than this car ever has since driving off the lot. My only blessing I have left is that I get to turn this car in next year and do not have to deal with paying off a loan to own the car that will just continue to get even worse. The inside and infotainment is run of the mill. Between my first renegade and the newer one they got rid of the fog and auto lights, as well as the dash screen being a lot more plain and the lane assist feature becoming a green/orange light on the dash like all other warnings and not an animation on screen. The newer car also includes the weird engine stop/go feature which is supposed to save gas but most of the time leaves my car stalling at red lights and people tailgating me because the car doesn't move fast enough to actually get going anywhere quickly. If you either drive like a 75 year old or need something to rent for a few weeks, then this car would be a great choice for you, but for normal drivers who need a daily vehicle to get where you need to go, I would NEVER recommend a renegade. Thank God that jeep discontinued the car.
We have a 2015 Renegade w/ the 1.4L turbo engine & 6-speed manual in the Latitude package. Silver w/ tan interior. It has heated seats & steering wheel, which is great in NY winters. We’ve had 4 adults comfortably on multiple road trips, averaging 37-38 mpg. Oil changes & gas can be pricey bc it req’s European grade synthetic oil and high octane. But w/ the mileage it gets and surprising amount of interior room, I love this Jeep. And now it’s approaching the age where I can start adding a small lift and tires
Fun to drive, sunroof
none yet!
I love everything about it! Super cute and fun to drive! The roof is amazing. Happy with my purchase!
Vehicle still running great! Some small issues and safety recalls but all taken care off by dealerships. It’s a very good ride and affordable. Low and inexpensive maintenance required. It’s a family vehicle and will stay in the family for few more years.
A great value for your money purchase. Big enough for comfort small enough for easier parking. Very comfortable and reliable car.
Winter accommodations, size, speed
Manual seat adjustments
I bought this Renegade after driving a Patriot. The Renegade has been nothing short of perfect for my lifestyle. It's quick to get around in, it seems to do pretty well in winter weather. My only complaint is the manual seat adjustment. I can't reach the bar when my seat is all the way up. Overall love the Renegade, waiting 5 years for it was worth it!
Great little car
Kinda small on space. But I enjoy it
Buick Casada convertible never owned a car I enjoy driving as much as I do this one. And the fuel usage is great. Yes I'm 65 and love my convertible Buick
Comfortable, feels safe, lots of storage
Shifts funny, weird stereo sounds
It’s a phenomenal car, drives smooth, stereo sounds decent, everything about it I almost love. The third gear is a bit rough though, almost concerning. Also the stereo sometimes makes loud noises when playing music.
