"First Domestic Car in 25 Years....so far so good"

I bought a 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited after doing exhaustive comparisons with both domestic and imports. I have been a Japanese and German car owner for a couple of decades and never thought I would go back to a domestic. I do a lot of business travel and have driven a lot of SUVs. I was not even going to consider the Jeep until I rented one and drove it for a couple of weeks. After that I always looked for one on the National Car lot. When I went to buy, I just could not find a better value for what was offered. I sold a 12 year old Acura MDX (a great SUV) and replaced it with the Jeep. So far, the Jeep has been great. V6 power is adequate, but not exceptional, interior is super, exterior is stylish. My only issues are: 1) a buzz in the dash when driving at low revs in lower gears, the finicky electronic shifter, that I can never seem to work correctly, lots of panels, and nooks and crannies in the exterior that I continue to get road salt and sand out of when I wash it even into July, a bit high to step into, no dealer loaners when it is serviced (I keep forgetting this is not an Audi). It has been great in the snow and on the highway. So far (admittedly I have low miles on it) it has been a great vehicle and ran me over $10K less than buying another Acura MDX. In fact, this Grand Cherokee cost me exactly what my 2002 MDX cost me way back then. Better SUV with many more features over 10 years later for the same price....I will take it. I will check back in 10K miles or so.

Critical Review

"Buyer Beware"

just received the sixth recall for this vehicle. Have owned it for one year. It is currently at the dealer for the second time due to transmission problems. Also, they are replacing the radiator because it developed a leak. I really love the appearance of this vehicle and the comfort. But I am beginning to think that i have a lemon on my hands. Perspective buyer need to research the problems associated with this vehicle before you purchase.

Love my 2015 JGC Limited
jeep grand-cherokee 2011 Image - 49970832
Pros

Ease of handling, moon roof, heated seats, lots of hauling space, room for 5 adults, heat/air in back.

Cons

It’s a little high profile for short people

I’m the second owner of Lil Red. She has all the specs that I need and more. Moon roof, heated seats, towing package never used, black leather interior. Red pearlized exterior, Uconnect, Sirius Radio, custom boots and shoes and so much more. I bought the 125,000 mile extended warranty and haven’t had to use it but it brought me peace of mind. She is going to turn over 90,000 miles by summer 2026. I live in rural NE so the 4 wheel drive is great. I don’t ever use the off road option but it’s available. I would love another just like her for my next vehicle some day. Regular scheduled maintenance is all she has ever asked for. 🥰

$700 Battery Replacement
Pros

Looks good, layout is good

Cons

Electronics are very poor; abusive maintenance requirements

Making an "auxiliary battery" required for a feature NOBODY wants (shutting the engine off at stop lights) is bad enough. It's placed in a hard to reach location that means it's either going to be a big pain or cost more money to get replaced. If you don't put in the aux battery it causes problem with the primary battery (so I'm told). So that means two battery replacements engineered intentionally to maximize maintenance revenue. There is absolutely no other reason for doing what they did. I will not be buying another Jeep and I will be asking a lot more questions about common maintenance costs when I buy my next vehicle.

Pros

Comfortable ride Good looking Jeep.

Cons

Uconnect radio is starting to peel on both upper corners

Had the Jeep now for 5 yrs , the only issue is the radio starting to peel in the upper corners which I see is a big issue for these Jeeps as you search online and there is no fix from uconnect or Jeep which is a major flaw. Other than that it is a great truck so far. Just approached 50.000 miles

Unreliable, high style
Pros

Looks good

Cons

A/C gave out. Secondary battery died twice in less than four years. Trim breaking in certain areas.

We have all the bells and whitles for this model. Car looks nice, here's where it falters: - Air conditioning (A/C for the algorithm) gave out under 36,000 milles. Supposedly common in Grand Cherokees. Unfortunately, car was already four years old and out of warranty. - Trunk / hatch mounted crooked. Didn't notice that until after a year from purchase, and since it was pre-owned... we're out of luck. - Secondary battery (operates Start/Stop mode) died twice within four years. Less than 36,000 miles. - Touch screen for radio developed bubbles under 36,000 miles. Unfortunately, car was already four years old and out of warranty.

A+ smooth and durable ride. Grows on you in time.

I've had my Jeep Cherokee Limited for the past 3 years and it's grown on me more than any other vehicle I've previously owned. It is a quiet and pleasant ride with minimal problems or distractions. It's great for road-tripping or just casual every day commuting. Would give it an overall rating of 4.5/5.

Beautiful Automobile

This is an amazing vehicle. The water pump, two headlamp bulbs and a new set of wipers were all that was ever required for repair over the course of 91K miles. I'm on my third set of tires. The original Factory Goodyear took me to 45K miles. The next set of Goodyear were noisy and replaced with Michelin at about 75K. Oil changed at 5K intervals. Burns no oil. Brakes were done at 90K but mechanic said they had another 10-15K left. No rattles. All electronics in great shape. No rust. No dings. Great highway or around town driver. The sheet metal is robust enough to avoid door dings. (compared to our Mustang which dents by falling acorns). We've had several jeep wranglers and there's no comparison to quality. Wranglers, in our experience (three of them), always needed warrantee work. The V6 has been a great engine. Hope they are building the new Grand Cherokee's as well as this 2018.
