Positive Review
Being at the lower end of the crossover SUV market, the Compass takes a bit of flak from the gearhead youtube sensations who decide on what constitutes a good car these days. However, those guys are letting their testosterone get the better of them and they're totally wrong about the Compass. It's smooth, it's comfortable and it's efficient with gas. Not to mention being very reasonably priced compared to its peers. If you're looking for huge amounts of torque then you may be better off looking elsewhere but if you need a solid family car that has some basic off road ability and good amounts of space and features then the Compass is a great choice especially given the low price tag for a second hand model. Buy with confidence.
Critical Review
Had a Compass this year and hated it. No power, cheap interior and the worst automatic transmission I've ever driven. The engine is anemic and struggles to get out of it's own way. Super loud at any RPM above 4k. The automatic transmission is sloppy and is constantly searching for the right gear, which it never seems to find. The only way I could drive this car was by manually selecting the correct gear. Cheap plastic all around, but quite comfortable, even for a big guy.

Enough space if you’re tall, touchscreen
Horrible reliability for virtually every aspect of the vehicle, loud, slow
If I didn’t do 100% of my own maintenance this would have cost me $7,400 in the past couple of years I’ve owned it. There are a bunch of things that probably need to be replaced on top of all of that too which I’ve been ignoring because I’m sick of all the repairs. Acceleration is poor as well.
Audio and storage
Bad Transmissions and engine. Expensive to maintain and bleeds the wallet
Transmission issues early on with expensive repairs. Overpriced vehicle. Only redeeming factors is the audio and some decent storage space.
None
Constant failures to get you home
Nothing but problems, has never made it home from a vacation without having to go to the shop for engine repairs among many other repaires.
Gas saver
No accessories
I have a 2016 Compass and I bought in 2018, I never had a big issue in motor or transmission, I just have one mechanic problem in 6 years, for me is the Best SUV
In spite of the negative ratings for it I really like mine — 50K miles now, runs and and drives great. 21 mpg city, 25+ hiwy. Still looks new and hasn’t cost anything except fluid changes. I do 35K on the CVT and run AmsOil cvt fluid —very smooth and quiet. Wouldn’t trade it for anything else!
Love the Jeep, just need a smaller car.
It runs very good, kept oil change and new tires in 2024, every 3,000 miles. Minor cosmetic changes. I need a smaller car.
This is the worst car I have ever owned. The repair costs, the lack of quality. Its not fun to drive or particularly economic. I will never, ever buy another one of these vehicles.
Clean, white color has three owner had two accident. Been driven mostly on highway. Had very minor accidents. The car does it hVe any issues, mechanical engineering problems
