Positive Review

"Love the car - hate going to the delership."

Against my family and friends recommendation I purchased 2015 Cherokee. I moved from a Honda CRV with 250,000 mile on it. I have been surprised with the power delivered from the 4 cylinder and the ZF transmission. For a Jeep, it handles like a sports car. The interior is stunning and well executed. My biggest disappointments came from the many times I had to tale it back to the dealership for recalls and warranty repairs. None were very serious but all were aggravating. 4 recalls and 3 warranty issues in the first 6 months. As far as being a traditional Jeep, it handles snow and mud very well. I like the handling both on and off road. Overall, I remain positive about my choice.

"Issues with Headlights and Transmission"

I purchased a new 2014 Jeep Cherokee Latitude mid-December 2013. Approximately two weeks later, I noticed that significant amounts of water had collected on the inside of both headlights. I returned the car to the Jeep dealership where they replaced both headlights citing a Service Bulletin which acknowledged the potential for condensation in the lights. A week later, on a 5 degree night , I found frost built-up on the inside of one of the new headlights; I brought the car back to Jeep. This time, however, the service department used the Service Bulletin (SB 08-086-13) to justify not replacing the lights. The Bulletin maintains that the condition is acceptable in that it "will usually clear as atmospheric conditions change (I kid you not) to allow the condensation to change back into a vapor. Turning the lights on will usually accelerate the process." In other words, the deficiencies in the headlights design, manufacturing process, and/ or installation are to be addressed by the actions of the customer (or apparently Mother Nature), not Jeep. In the numerous discussions with sales, service and corporate customer service, representatives agreed the Bulletin does not address the issue (from a customer standpoint) but insisted that there was nothing they could do. My corporate Case Manager has closed my file all while noting he had received multiple complaints related to the dullness of the lights . In addition to the headlight issue, the transmission tends to "stick" or "hang-up" during transitions between gears, especially at speeds under 25 mph. This condition is intermittent and varies in degree of severity but tends to be more pronounced when descending in speed. In the more extreme cases a "clunking" noise/vibration was felt which emanated from the bottom of the car. Jeep updated the transmission software program but this resulted in no noticeable improvement. Note - With Active Drive I, there is no mechanism to manually engage full-time 4 wheel drive. The Selec- Terrain dial which puts the car into Snow, Mud, etc. mode does not put the car into 4-wheel drive - it adjusts other systems. With Active Drive II there is a Rear Axle Lock which is available (i.e., the car is simply an AWD without it). I only mention this because the sales department was apparently trained otherwise; I needed to go to Jeep corporate to get clarification. One final thought - the customer will do most of the "homework" in trying to resolve these issues. Sales sent me to service, service commented that maybe corporate had a new light design in the works (i.e., the customer should call corporate), corporate asked me if I would ask the service department if they had a different light that could be installed, etc. All good questions that should have been tracked down and answered by someone who took ownership of the issue - FROM JEEP! Meanwhile I have a car the family is hesitant to drive because of headlights that could become significantly impaired and the transmission.

Comfortable to drive, ease of use.
Pros

Comfortable

Cons

Slow shifting

Have 50k miles into this 2.4 and so far love it! No real issues, regular maintenance. Transmission needs babying with warming up otherwise it’s a little cranky until it’s loose. Favorite part is ease of use with interface and convenience in the inside.

A serious upgrade from a 2009 Honda Civic!!
Pros

Close 2 fully loaded!!

Cons

Old 3g network/hotspot technology, and class 3 tow package without the muscle??

Wow, I am not riding on the ground anymore!! I knew I wanted certain things when I started looking 4 the next vehicle including: backup camera, navigation system, sun/moon roof, heated mirrors, 4x4, and no 4cyl or electric!! I really used 2 enjoy my 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited which I used 2 tow a 23' aft cabin boat weighing @5,000 lbs., until the @30" of snow wiped her out!! Thank God I made it home that morning!! I also had a 99 Chevrolet Tahoe LT that made it thru the rest!! I searched Autotrader with these requirements 2 find 3 within @10 miles 4 less than $10,000. Had a Heavenly experience starting on a Sunday evening that I narrowed the search down 2 1. Using Autotrader, I asked if still available, and can I schedule a test drive?? Kevin, GM of Bayside Jeep, emailed me in @30 minutes 2 my surprise!! He met me @my car Monday morning @9am, and introduced me 2 Christian, my salesperson. I thought about a larger sized vehicle than this compact suv, but he said, "It would be @$30,000 at least!! 4 $10,000 and 124k, I think I found a steal of a deal!! My 2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited that I purchased on 6/9 has so many extras, but the 1 I still can't get over is a 115volt outlet at back of center console!! Have found out though that the hotspot is not functional due 2 old 3g networking, but now I have SXM radio!! If u r ever in the area, feel free 2 c me @Freestate Baptist Church on Thursdays and Sundays!! Don't 4get 2 purchase and read my first book due 2 b on bookshelves @9/9, if not by @12/25, named: From GR82CYA 2 Spirit B ing!! Lord James

Transfer case will cost you the car

DO NOT BUY THE TRAILHAWK OR ANYTHING JEEP. I had Trailhawk for a year seemed great until it wasn’t. My transfer case went out without warning. Mopar made a faulty transfer cases. They are not even refurbishing them anymore. Was told by the dealership I might get one in 6 months but they couldn’t be certain. Even if they replaced the part it could have threw metal in the transmission but I wouldn’t know until it initially got fixed. So I was left upside down in payments having to trade in for something else. Because my Trailhawk got towed to a Jeep dealership and wasn’t drivable I got stuck trading in on another Jeep. This time a grand Cherokee Laredo x. Only been driving for 2.5 months and they have replaced the water pump 4 times. Jeep and Stellantis are the absolute worst car company in the history of companies!
