I've had this CUV for about a week, very pleased with my purchase. Was originally looking at the smaller tucson then drove hondas crv and decided the space was needed. Went back to Hyundai and tried out the Santa Fe, one test drive and I was sold ! The difference between the two models was noticeable mostly on comfort and the cabin noise. Right now I'm getting good gas mileage and the ride is quite smooth. My only issue right now is backing up, as there is a few blind spots but going from driving a car to a CUV its something I'm sure I'll get used to. The steering wheel modes are neat, I wasn't sure I would use them really but I do notice a difference. Especially when parking in parking lots(the comfort mode works best) to driving on the highway (sports mode) I also looked at the Kia Sorento, as they seemed comparable, Santa Fe just has that added touch to it though.
Critical Review
After test driving many small SUVs, I purchased a 2014 Santa Fe Sport 2.4L. On the drive home from the dealership, I realized the engine was making a strange noise. When I called the dealership, they told me the engine noise was normal. I even took it in twice and they still told me it was a normal noise. It wasn't until I took the car in for an oil change 2 months later that they found metal filings in the oil pan and said they would replace the engine with a new one. Unfortunately "new" meant remanufactured in their vocabulary. After searching the Internet, I've found that others have experienced this same problem, so there is clearly something wrong at the manufacturer. Anyway, my gas mileage has declined considerably with the new engine and Hyundai is telling me to go through arbitration if I'm not happy.

Blown motor, failed drive shaft, lift gate not working back up camera doesn't work
Original owner, 26 miles when we left. Had Hyundai service plan. Engine blew up in 2022, drive shaft coupling came apart in 2024. Back lift gate doesn't open, back up camera doesn't work. Odometer reads 85K miles, per Hyundai new motor at 37K miles. I have lemons on my vehicle.
Excellent transportation from the start; owned it for 12 years and pretty much just kept up with the maintenance. I would buy again.
Bought it at 120k miles, so I knew there would be things to fix. But I've had it for a year and a half, and after the first year, I've had issues with it every month! All of them related to oil consumption which led to engine failure, costing me thousand of dollars in repairs and causing stress. If you want a long term daily, I recommend you look somewhere else. Everything else is great but the primary function (getting you from A to B) was not achieve...
This car as been a nightmare. Don't buy. First, our engine broke on highway while I was in the middle of to tracker trailers, we had been asking for the oil leak to be fixed and the dealer we bought it from in fla or huyndia wouldn't touch it until it broke and I almost died. Then we had to fight to get some one to listen. In the end hunudia replaced the engine only to have it stolen a couple of months later!! Look on YouTube u will find how to steal this car. We even had the news anti their installed. Yep! Worst car ever! I will never buy a car from this company again. This letter is only to help other make a better decision. I wish someone had told me how bad this product is and the company is to deal with. In my opinion only and they should recall all the cars and pay you fully price for their mistake!
Mostly happy with my 2019 purchase of a used 2017 Santa Fe Sport. Unfortunately, Hyundai goes for cheap plastic parts in the interior that were poorly designed and configured. It's a shame because the engine itself has performed reliably and consistently and will hopefully continue to do so. It is a pleasure to drive. Security recalls due to the "KIA Boys" theft ring that led to frequent thefts of Kia's and Hyundai's. Some electronic issues with warning lights and having to repaint areas due to faulty materials used in the paint application when the vehicle was manufactured. I have found Delray Hyundai in Delray Beach, FL to be dishonest and unethical. Although I have enjoyed my SUV, I would most likely change to a brand that is more customer service oriented and builds their vehicles with higher quality materials.
ONWED MY SANTA FE SPORT NEW SINCE 2013 HAS BEEN TROUBLE FREE And looks great has camel interior I WAS CONGRATULATED ON MY NEW CAR 3 YRS AGO. AGEING VERY WELL.
I like the design of this vehicle for its time. It has a tone of features and a great rear view camera. Overall it is a great value, the only problem is that the GDI engine does consume some oil every 2000 miles. Also the oil get dark fast. I used to have a Toyota and the engine oil looked like new even at 10k miles.
