Positive Review

"Versatility plus!"

I love this car. It may not be gorgeous on the outside, but it's certainly distinctive and I like that. I am the only one in my household, but I do a lot of hauling. I love being out shopping and being able to buy anything on a whim, even big furniture, because I know it will fit. I am a volunteer for a rescue group and am always hauling around dogs--and it cleans up beautifully afterward. I can have the largest crate assesmbled in the back and it fits--even for dogs over 3 feet tall. I've had the car 1 1/2 years and have done nothing other than change the oil. I'm an English teacher, so I'm always hauling boxes of books, snacks and drinks loaded at Costco for fundraisers, and my files can go with me and are easy to retrieve. It holds so much! I still intend to get the tent for the tailgate for camping in the National Parks out west. And it's a wonderfully comfortable and roomy car for four big adults. My friends tell me the view from the rear seat is great, because they are elevated. I would buy another in a heart beat.

Critical Review

"great car I'm 6'8" all the headroom I need"

Fairly reliable but an absolute gas hog If you can afford to stroke a check to the stealer-ship for its many mechanical quirks then great. If you do the work yourself even better. A few silly things...the alternator is on the bottom front, so though it will go through a deep puddle, it may cost you 150 bucks. There's about 8 things that make the shift lock engage...dealership has no good way to fix this and will fail...2 zip ties fix the issue forever

DO NOT BUY
Pros

The seats go onto the ceiling for extra space

Cons

Everything else

I had a 2005 Ford Escape before I got my Honda Element. I loved my escape but the air conditioning went out for 2 years before I decided to get a new car. It all started really well with my car but after a week of having it I was driving home, and every single light started going off on the dashboard the over head lights. I got to the front of a 4 way stop sign and my car shuts off and I cannot get it to turn back on. I call my dad and we push my car out of the way thinking it was my battery. Bought a brand new battery and made it to my dads work where it stopped working again. Had it towed to the dealership and it was my alternator. I went back a few days later to get my car and on the highway it does it again 5 minutes after I get my car back. Ever since then I have had nothing but problems with it. At lease once a month sometimes twice a month my engine light turns on, then my VSA light turns on and then my car shakes if I hit 3000 rpms. And when I mean an every month thing I mean an every month thing. I have owned this car a little over a year and have had to replace the VVT valve at least 5 times or any part associated to that part. Gas mileage is absolutely terrible. Would not give this car to my worst enemy. DO NOT BUY THIS CAR!!

20 years driving an Element

First a 2004 and now my 2011; back seats out, kayaks, shrubs, soccer equipment; love the tail gates that go up and down. Engine has given me now problems. Mileage disappointing, but tolerable. Love this vehicle; would be first in line if Honda got wise and reestablished a new Element.

I HAVE HAD TWO BOXERS IN THIS SUV AND ONLY ONE MINOR ACCIDENT SOMEONE BACKED INTO ME AT A PARKING LOT WITH MINOR DAMAGE. LOTS OF WINDOWS TO SEE AROUND YOU. YOU CAN CAMP IN THE CAR AND MOVE A LOT OF THINGS IN THIS VEHICLE. EASY TO FIX AND THE ENGINE AS LONG AS YOU MAINTAIN IT WILL LAST FOREVER. GREAT VEHICLE I HOPE THEY MAKE THEM AGAIN I'LL DEF BUY IT. It’s a good car for adventures but just make sure you take care of it. Mine won’t stay out of the shop for more than 5 months.
