I own a 2023 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 with approximately 70,000 miles. This is one of the most impressive vehicles I have driven. Its acceleration, highway stability, handling, comfort, and off-road capabilities are exceptional. Despite its enormous size, it feels remarkably smooth and easy to drive. Unfortunately, my experience with reliability and long-term ownership has been disappointing. I have experienced multiple component failures requiring repairs costing thousands of dollars, fortunately covered by warranty. Most recently, a routine maintenance visit turned into a prolonged repair after an unsuccessful electronic module update required replacement of the module. My vehicle has been unavailable for weeks. These experiences raise serious concerns about owning this expensive, technologically complex vehicle after warranty coverage expires. Another significant drawback is the ownership support. In my experience, service delays, communication difficulties, and inadequate alternative transportation have fallen far short of what I would expect from a vehicle costing over $100,000. I genuinely love driving my Hummer and would otherwise strongly consider purchasing another. However, my experience has made me question whether its outstanding performance justifies the reliability concerns, ownership costs, and difficulties obtaining satisfactory service. My advice to prospective buyers: The Hummer EV is an extraordinary vehicle, but consider long-term repair costs, warranty coverage, and the quality of your local service department before purchasing.
