Now 2 months after my last review desc8bing the multiple problems with this 21 explorer st, it continues. The AWD module went out 700 miles out of warranty. A $1700 repair! This issue would cause the car to go into a false neutral instead of 2nd gear, a huge safety hazard. Also all 4 of my tire pressure sensors went out around 50k miles, $600. And the X on the explorer hood decal has fallen off. I plan to dump this car ASAP and will end up upside down on the loan. At this point it'll cost me more to keep it than to take the loss.

Single guy looking for a vehicle that is fun to drive but can haul junk too, and this fits the bill. I came from a 2018 Lincoln MKZ 3.0t AWD, this has all the same features but this does it better. Mine had one minor panel issue the dealership is fixing, but otherwise everything is solid. Installed a BOV, I find it funny to blow past people with a quiet exhaust and a loud Spanish sound as they disappear into the distance. Fantastic nighttime viability over the lower trims. Actually just better over all than the lower trims. Bolt ons and a tune just puts this in its own league for the price you pay, the only thing that comes close is a 2026 dodge Durango RT 392. ST is not for everyone but it is for me. "Sporty" family hauler my butt. Wrong demographic. This is a genuine fast mid-sized SUZ that you'd have to go luxury to get close to the performance numbers otherwise.

I love the suv its fantastic to drive only issue I have is the wind noise in the driver seat but I'd sleep in it every night the seats are comfortable.

So far so good - smooth ride - plenty of power for a 2.3 liter 4 cyl which coming from someone who drove a 5.0 V8 for 20 yrs- much better on gas

I purchased my 2021 explorer st used in January of 2024. It had about 35k miles. I love the way it looks, and it's fast (v6 engine was important to me). In the first yr and a half I've had more problems than any other car I've owned. My first major issue was it wouldn't take gas about 1/2 of the time- had to get the EVAP system fixed. This fortunately was covered by warranty, but 6 months later I started to experience the issue again, but less frequently and no check engine light (yet). Then a few months later, I noticed 1 of my exhausts was lower than the other and rattling. Come to find out the hanger was broken, and the other was soon to fail. Had to replace those (not covered by warranty). But the rattling is still happening, guess I'm just stuck with the noise. Most recently my tire pressure sensor light came on. I traded a 2018 explorer for this one and never had to fix anything- just normal maintenance. I wish I would have kept it. I never even had these kinds of problems with my 20 yr old beaters back in the day.

Trading my car in next week, I am gonna miss my Explorer. It’s been a good family car. Draw backs: the screen is glitchy at times. Some electronics malfunctioned and I won’t lie, they can be costly to fix. Comfortable, spacious. I never had any mechanical problems with the car, but I did take very good care of it at well. I maintained all recommended services and any replacements were all genuine Ford parts. I hope whoever buys our car, loves it as much as we did.

Bought a used limited 2022 in 2024 I want to live this car so much but I just cant. I used to have 2010 escape and god i loved that car. No issues ever until the end when I was replacing the ac every summer for 3 years. I figured id love a new bigger ford just as much. This car drives great, its comfortable, roomy, great cargo. Perfect for a family of 4 and the 3rd row allows for grandma and grandpa to ride along for short trips (1 hour). I have the captains chairs middle row with 2 car seats anchored in....it just works. Gas mileage is average i think. About 23 on the freeway at 75mph. Eco mode only moderates the acceleration to save gas and sports mode is just CRAZY!!! Haven't had to use the other driving modes in 2 years. So whats my problem? Well its death by a 1000 cuts really. Just the small things but I feel like there's enough peeves that ruin it for me. I had to replace my rear suspension after my first year of owning it. The doors are heavy and their set open positions are too far apart. The doors constantly close on me. Rear heating comes from the floor and ac comes from the ceiling. Front air vents feel underpowered. Transmission wont switch to reverse until the rear camera activates and this can take half a second to 10 seconds. 10 seconds feels like a long time when your backing into a spot and people are waiting on you. Android and apple play are plug in even though they have a wireless charger. (Ram went Bluetooth car play in 22). This means cords and sometimes it disconnects and you wonder if its the port or the cord. The key fob battery needs replacing 1-2x a year. You know this when the touch unlock system starts to not work. The tailgate only works under power and sometimes it glitches and wont close. The pretty roof rack doesnt have cross bars so you buy aftermarket ones that sit on top rather than blend in seamlessly. Drive modes default to normal everytime you restart the car. This means if you like to drive eco you gotta hit a button everytime rather than spin a dial. At some point that buttons gotta wear out. Other than that.....its a fantastic family car.
