Positive Review
Before I bought my '20 Explorer Limited, I looked at the offerings from Land Rover, Audi and Volvo, and looked at the Ford on a lark. The handling equalled or bested the Audi Q5 with much more room, and against the Volvo it was no contest. The Land Rover was $10K more expensive, so the value was more impressive. We needed a passenger/cargo hauler and the suited the purpose well. The center captains chairs are nice, and the seat configuration for 6 ends up being male and more comfortable. The 2.3L Eco Boost can seem buzzy but it puts out ample acceleration and more than adequate power with decent mileage for a car that tips the scales at 4,500 lbs. I've been averaging around 23-24 in a mixed driving loop that includes local and freeway driving, which was more than I expected. Overall, I'm happy and impressed.
Critical Review
Within a day of our purchase, the A/C went out. It took a month the get the needed part. We have experienced a myriad of electrical glitches, the lift gate not opening, the engine not turning off, the engine not starting. We disconnected the battery for the last two events. The speed limit indicator works okay when there is a posted highway sign it will display the posted speed. On some roads when a sign is not immediately present, you can be in big trouble. Our Explorer shows a speed limit of 60 mph in one 45 mph zone. The dealer has not been able to repair or disable this display. Our latest issue was an engine light for cold start malfunction that occurred when the vehicle was started in our heated garage. Our Explorer is comfortable, drives very well, gets great mileage and handles winter driving conditions with ease. Our dealer has been great but they are as tired of our frequent visits as we are.

Perfect family car
Many minor flaws that add up
Bought a used limited 2022 in 2024 I want to live this car so much but I just cant. I used to have 2010 escape and god i loved that car. No issues ever until the end when I was replacing the ac every summer for 3 years. I figured id love a new bigger ford just as much. This car drives great, its comfortable, roomy, great cargo. Perfect for a family of 4 and the 3rd row allows for grandma and grandpa to ride along for short trips (1 hour). I have the captains chairs middle row with 2 car seats anchored in....it just works. Gas mileage is average i think. About 23 on the freeway at 75mph. Eco mode only moderates the acceleration to save gas and sports mode is just CRAZY!!! Haven't had to use the other driving modes in 2 years. So whats my problem? Well its death by a 1000 cuts really. Just the small things but I feel like there's enough peeves that ruin it for me. I had to replace my rear suspension after my first year of owning it. The doors are heavy and their set open positions are too far apart. The doors constantly close on me. Rear heating comes from the floor and ac comes from the ceiling. Front air vents feel underpowered. Transmission wont switch to reverse until the rear camera activates and this can take half a second to 10 seconds. 10 seconds feels like a long time when your backing into a spot and people are waiting on you. Android and apple play are plug in even though they have a wireless charger. (Ram went Bluetooth car play in 22). This means cords and sometimes it disconnects and you wonder if its the port or the cord. The key fob battery needs replacing 1-2x a year. You know this when the touch unlock system starts to not work. The tailgate only works under power and sometimes it glitches and wont close. The pretty roof rack doesnt have cross bars so you buy aftermarket ones that sit on top rather than blend in seamlessly. Drive modes default to normal everytime you restart the car. This means if you like to drive eco you gotta hit a button everytime rather than spin a dial. At some point that buttons gotta wear out. Other than that.....its a fantastic family car.
Reliability, very comfortable, form fitting seats, space/storage
Other people on the roads do act up when they see an explorer and mistake it for a cop car. You will get people in your way.
Hello everyone! I had this car for about 3 months and I absolutely love it! I love how reliable it is and how quick it can get when it’s needed. The 3rd row is tight, it is a mid-size SUV after all. If you have a bigger family, I would suggest getting a full size SUV. Unfortunately, there are a few issues that I’ve noticed. 1. Sometimes, the car stalls/jerks a little bit when accelerating. It doesn’t happen much. 2. On the infotainment screen, I can’t download or update any apps. It says pending and it keeps spinning over and over again. (it is a computer after all) I have an appointment soon to get these issues fixed but other than that, it’s been amazing. I am so very grateful for this car. It is my first real car I’ve ever had and I’m so lucky to have a choice for once for something I actually want.
Excellent low miles like new one owner, passed away needs to be sold. Son wants to sell does not need car just wants to sell it. Excellent condition.
Purchased as a used certified vehicles in 2023 with 12000 miles on it. I now have 22500 miles on it. No problems at all, very comfortable ride, very quick on acceleration, averages about 20mpg, lots of cargo room.
Fast
Seats are form fitting and tight
I figure out ways to drive this truck. So glad you can customize it. Wish floor mats included 3rd row and trunk
Comfortable seating
Seems like a station wagon rather than an SUV
What else do you need in a car other than to get you from point A to point B? The seats are very comfortable even on the longest road trip. My car was equipped with heated seats and air conditioned seats, which sold the car for me. It has a Jurassic Park moonroof. The car has never left me stranded. It has sometimes stuttered on acceleration, but I have always checked that up to bad gas. This car is large enough to put a trunk load of things in it. Also equipped with third row power seats with plenty of room. This car is not the fanciest on the block, but it rides smooth, quiet from the road noise, it has been reliable from the beginning.
The car was kept very clean by the previous owners. It has heated AND ventilated seats. All the other bells and whistles that I wanted.
None yet
My 2010 Toyota Sequoia was barely hanging on, so my husband and I began talking about the next vehicle I would drive. For some reason, we kept coming back to the Ford Explorer. We knew we couldn't afford a new one (because I wanted all the bells and whistles!!!), so we began looking for used. It didn't long for a 2022 Ford Explorer Limited to catch our eyes! After test driving, we were able to bring it home for 48 hours! That sealed the deal. Someone else kept this car in immaculate condition. The ride is smooth. There are the bells and whistles that I wanted. My husband got a car that is higher off the ground. We are very pleased with our purchase!
Roomy, reliable, stylish
I traded in a smaller vehicle for this one. This car has the get up and go that i enjoy as well as being roomy. 3 rows allow for multiple people or plenty of room for packing.
