Positive Review

i bought this car in June of '06 for $500 and it had 154k miles on it. Haven't had any major problems with it. The paint is peeling off the roof, and trunk. Other than regular oil changes and tires, ive put probably around $150 into it. It has 174k miles on it now and its still running strong.

Critical Review

"OK car, but not recommended"

I've had my Dodge Spirit for about eighteen years now. I still have it because I really dislike the ugly jelly bean and crab forward cars that have been built since. I like the square, but aerodynamic shape. It has a pretty good amount of room inside. It has very good leg room in the back. The car has plenty of pep with the 2.5L turbo and decient gas mileage can be milked out of it. Unfortunately my car has been plagued with mechnical problems since I bought it. It was less than a year old but the previous owner racked up over 30k miles on it and had repairs done incorrectly instead of under warrantee. The worst problems it have had with it are: The cooling system leaked at the freeze plugs and the head gasket and the radiator was short lived. The timing belt broke at 44k miles causing an expensive repair. The windsheild's gasket leaked. The trunk always mysteriously accumulated water without a leak ever being found. And the turbo failed at about 70k miles sending junk into the engine destroying it too. When I had the engine replaced, I found that it was difficult to find a quality rebuilt engine to install in this vehicle. Overall I would have to say that this is a cheap car. It didn't cost too much to buy. It is very inexpensive to insure. In general it cost less to maintain and repair than some better cars. I held on to this car too long because I was waiting for the body to rot first, but it is very well galvanized. Other cars that I might have bought at the time would have rotted out a long time ago.

This car is in superb condition
Pros

A classic, limited no. Produced for 1995

Cons

Can not find any.

This car is in excellent condition without a spot of rust. Any time I have minor work done on it, like oil change, new tires, battery the mechanics all say they have never seen a car of this age in such superb condition. It is garaged when not in use and does not see any typical winter corrosives, etc.

Solid, fun to drive
Pros

Well built, reliable, easy to maintain

Cons

rough ride

I have owned this Spirit for 11 years. It was one of the best cars I have owned. It was built like a vault and was very reliable for me. Other than the typical "old car" problems, I never had any serious problems with this car in the 11 years I owned it. I would get another one if I could find one in my area. I would still be driving it if it weren't for a texting dope hitting it in the side. It was still safe and drivable but the insurance company wanted it to pay the settlement. I found out the car went another two years before giving up. If you can find a southern gem, this car won't let you down.

I have owned vehicle for ten years w/repair receip
Pros

great work car

Cons

needs transmission work.

This car is like new under the hood! Needs paint job, no dents never in an accident. Needs transmission work. Interior seats have no tears just crack on dash from sun damage. Power windows (front) need new motors, rear work great. Cruise control works. Removed compressor when the heads were reworked. Engine like new, new radiator, battery, and many major repairs with receipts. Just needs trani work and maybe new tires.

I have owned 4 or 5 Spirits - loved them all.

The first two Spirits I owned were used to carry rural mail.It was a great car for that because I am short and could sit in the middle of the front seat and drive, use both foot pedals, deliver the mail out the right window, etc. etc. Over 100 mile route. Summer and winter. Once I retired I looked and found another Spirit in a used car lot. Snapped it up -drove it until someone else needed a car worse than I did and gave it away. As soon as possible found another one and have driven it ever since.

The car runs teriffic. Best car I've had
Pros

Have had great experience with this car.

Cons

1992 car. Just an older car.

Drivers side door does need replaced as it was hit by a tree and window broken out. Other than that it is in pretty good condition. New brake pads and lines put in. New rotors on 2 wheels. Touch up on paint job needed.
