Positive Review

"The best truck ever built."

There is no question in my mind that these are the best trucks ever built. There is nothing they don't offer, with the exception of a soft ride (the leaf springs are constructed to haul a house). The 12 valve Cummins engine is simple, and incredibly reliable and long lived, as well as being a strong performer. All one needs to do is look at the number of trucks still going with more than 400,000 miles to realize that its durability is unmatched in the world of light trucks. While the newer diesel trucks may be longer on comfort and speed, the old 12 valve Dodge will get there EVERY time. This truck simply DOES NOT BREAK DOWN. You can hammer it at full throttle up the mountain pass with a 7500 lb trailer, all day long, and it does not blink. Put it to work on a ranch, an oil field, in Alaska, it doesn't matter. This truck will keep going, and going, and going so long as you make sure to change the oil and filters. The straight axles are virtually maintenance and trouble free, and the gear driven NP205 transfer case is bullet proof. It has been known to keep going when bone dry (though that's not recommended). The weakest link is the transmission, both manual and automatic, but care for it and it will last quite some time, too. There really is nothing bad to say about this truck, save for the incredibly stiff ride. Not a lot of bells and whistles compared to the newer stuff, but my "almost 20 year old" truck will still be running when the 2011 Duramax is in the boneyard. Take that to the bank.

Critical Review

"its trustworthy"

overall its good for low end torque. so if you are towing or just trying to get from one place to another in good time this is a fair vehicle.

Greatest Pickup Ever Made
Pros

Heavy duty Cummins Diesel engine

Cons

None

Was my grandfather’s truck, then my father’s. I got it with 260,000 miles. Runs and drives perfectly. Still hauls a yard of crushed granite without any problems. Don’t buy this truck unless you expect it to work forever.

Cons

hard to maneuver in small places

I have owned this truck for 14 years and has never once let me down. It has one of thr best engines ever built, It is as solid as a rock and has never failed to start for me. Today it is still running strong even with 1100000 miles on it.
