KBB Review Highlights

The QX80 debuted in 2004 as the QX56, Infiniti’s first full-size SUV. Riding upon the same platform as the beloved Nissan Patrol, the team at Infiniti found the seed of an idea that later would be tailored to an American audience accustomed to the rugged prestige of big-body beasts like the Cadillac Escalade. Infiniti returned to the drawing board and shifted to the solid, durable platform of the Nissan Titan, the same platform underlying the Nissan Armada SUV. They then infused tangible luxury into the vehicle’s DNA and renamed it the QX80.

2021 Infiniti QX80 front cabin.

Now equipped with a powerful 400-horsepower 5.6-liter V8 engine, a 7-speed automatic transmission, and RWD, the QX80 has the chops to handle any terrain you encounter — especially if you choose an option with AWD. At nearly 6,000 pounds, the QX80 is a big, luxurious beast with an insulated cabin and a healthy appetite for fuel. The ride is quiet and delightfully smooth, thanks to Infiniti’s Hydraulic Body Motion Control system.

Inspired by aeronautical design, the interior is plush, particularly in the Sensory trim with semi-aniline leather and finely finished details. The QX80 can be configured into a 7-seater or an 8-seater with a fixed second row that can be a captain’s chair or a bench. A rear-seat infotainment system entertains rear passengers. Space in the third row is limited. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.

While the interior feels plush and decadent, the exterior is tasteful and draws design cues from the Infiniti lineup. Broad and a touch boxy, the QX80 is long at 209 inches.

The QX80 Luxe starts with a strong base of leather seating, a 13-speaker Bose audio system, a power liftgate, a self-leveling rear suspension, and adaptive cruise control. Additional standard driver assists include lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic detection, automatic emergency braking, and a blind-spot monitor. As you scale the trim lines, additional features arise, including quilted leather, forged alloy wheels, and speed-sensitive power steering. Options are limited to the trim level offers, excluding exterior welcome lighting, illuminated scuff plates, and upgraded paint.
