A compact sedan, the Hyundai Elantra benefits from a complete redesign for its seventh generation, with the 2021 edition being longer, lower, and wider than the previous model. Rear legroom has been increased, as well as front headroom. The sporty GT has been dropped, although a new high-performance Elantra N will arrive later this year.
The majority of 2021 Hyundai Elantra trims come with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, but there is also a 1.6-liter hybrid as well as a turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder in the N-Line. Both the base and the hybrid get a CVT, but the N-Line comes standard with a 6-speed manual, with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic available as an option. The base engine returns 37 mpg combined, with the hybrid earning 54 mpg combined. The base engine isn’t terribly quick, however, with the hybrid offering a bit more spunk
Inside, the Elantra feels modern and high-tech, particularly when equipped with a pair of 10.25-inch displays that are connected under glass. Standard features include an 8-inch color touchscreen, different driving modes, and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. The sport-focused N-Line gets sport seats and a more sophisticated rear suspension. Every 2021 Hyundai Elantra comes with a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
Six Trim Levels
Three engine choices are offered in the 2021 Hyundai Elantra. The base three trims are powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, followed by a pair of hybrid trims, and then the top N-Line, with its turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder. Prices range from $19,650 for a base model to $25,450 for the top Limited. The N Line starts at $24,100, with prices for the hybrids ranging from $23,350 to $28,100. All prices add $995 for destination.
Standard features on the base SE include Bluetooth, HD radio, and Hyundai’s SmartSense suite of safety technologies that include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, active high-beams, and a driver attention monitor.
Starting under $20,000, the Elantra SE is a great deal, but it’s worth looking at the upper trims if they’re in your budget or if you want a sporty model like the N Line. If you’re happy with the base engine, the SEL adds a better audio system, an optional sunroof, and some other goodies for just over $1,000 more, with the Limited (which is nearly $5,000 more) adding leather seats, a sunroof, and a 10.25-inch navigation screen.
