The 2021 Honda CR-V is one of the best compact SUVs on the road today. In the past, we’ve given Honda the Kelley Blue Book Best Buy Award as a testament to that. Honda isn’t standing pat with this best-seller, introducing the Honda CR-V Hybrid last year. We expect this addition to perform equally as well, thanks to the CR-V’s reputation for good reliability and high resale value.
All standard Honda CR-V models now use a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with either front-wheel-drive (FWD) or available all-wheel-drive (AWD). This engine delivers a peppy 190-horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque that is mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) which simulates gear changes to mimic a traditional automatic transmission. Nicely assisted steering offers good feedback when the roads start to tighten up.
Four Gasoline And Three Hybrid Trim Levels
The Honda CR-V is available in LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring trim levels. The Honda CR-V Hybrid is available in Hybrid EX, Hybrid EX-L and Hybrid Touring trim levels. Pricing starts at $25,350 and tops out at $35,150 for the Honda CR-V, with AWD available on all trims for an additional $1,500. Pricing for the Honda CR-V Hybrid begins at $30,560 and tops out at $36,350. Please note: There is no LX trim level for the hybrid models. All CR-V Hybrids are equipped with AWD as standard equipment. Destination Charges are $1,120. Also, note that all models come with the Honda Sensing Safety Suite assists as standard.
The 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid EX-L could be the best of the CR-V lineup. In addition to the features included on the EX, it adds a heated steering wheel, leather-trimmed seats, a power tailgate, and a 4-way power passenger seat. The CR-V’s hybrid powertrain combines a 2.0-liter inline-4 gasoline engine with two electric motors to produce a total of 212-horsepower.
The extra power (over the gasoline CR-V) coupled with the near-instant acceleration of the electric motors is enough to increase the fun-to-drive quotient. All Hybrid trim levels utilize Honda’s AWD system providing increased traction in challenging situations. The Hybrid turns in higher fuel economy numbers with 40 city/35 highway compared to 28 city/34 highway from the gasoline-powered CR-V.
