A luxury midsize sedan that’s a great value and provides a fair amount of driving excitement, the Genesis G80 has been redesigned for 2021 with all-new sheet metal and a new interior look.
The base G80 is powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, with a much more potent 375-hp 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 also available. An 8-speed automatic sends that juice to either the rear wheels or all four. A strong chassis and accurate steering make the G80 a blast to drive with rear-wheel drive, despite its size. All-wheel drive provides all-weather safety but at the expense of some sportiness.
We like the look of the G80, with its diamond-pattern grille and low, sleek style. Inside, the G80 has leatherette upholstery, a 14.5-inch infotainment system, and plenty of space for passengers front and rear. The trunk has a usable 13.1 cubic feet of space. With a starting price of just under $50,000, the base model offers loads of standard features including 12-way power front seats, dual-zone climate control, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility, and a slew of driver-assist and safety features. Five Trim Levels
Genesis is building its reputation by providing great value compared to its German competitors, so even with a starting price of $47,700 for the 2.5T, (not including $1,025 for destination), the G80 comes exceptionally well equipped. The base model is powered by the 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder and an 8-speed automatic sends power to the rear wheels. All-wheel drive is available for an extra $3,150 on all trims except the Prestige, to which it adds $2,550.
Base model features include 12-way power front seats, leatherette upholstery, dual-zone climate control, push-button start, a 12-speaker audio system, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility, navigation, and a 14.5-inch screen. Also included are AM/FM, satellite radio, and Bluetooth. Safety features include blind-spot collision avoidance assist, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, and forward automatic emergency braking.
Next up is the 2.5T Advanced, which adds a panoramic roof, ventilated front seats, 19-inch wheels, matte-finish wood trim, and a 21-speaker Lexicon premium audio system. Above that, the Prestige adds full leather seating, a surround-view monitor, heated rear seats and steering wheel, remote parking assist, and more safety features such as the Blind-Spot View Monitor and parking collision avoidance assist.
If you want the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, the base trim with that engine is the 3.5T Standard. It has an electronically controlled suspension, panoramic roof, leather seats, ventilated front seats, 3-zone climate control, and the 21-speaker premium Lexicon audio system. The top trim is the 3.5T Prestige with 20-inch wheels, Nappa leather seating, heated rear seats, and most of the features on the 2.5T Prestige.
