Buick is an American luxury brand making a comeback, and the company has been working hard to develop solid offerings. The 2021 Buick Envision is a 2-row, 5-passenger compact premium SUV that offers refinement, comfort, tech, and affordability in a good-looking package.
For 2021, Buick completely updated the Envision from the ground up. It’s based on the chassis used in the Cadillac XT4. Its length is similar to the prior previous generation, but this new Envision is wider and the wheelbase has grown by an inch. It comes standard with one engine option: a turbocharged, 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder married to a 9-speed automatic transmission. It makes 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.
Simplicity in choice
There are just three trims to choose from: Preferred, Essence, and Avenir. All come standard with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive can be had for an extra $1,800 on any model.
The base version, called Preferred, includes cloth-covered seats, LED headlights, and an infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen, Sirius XM radio, and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. The Preferred also has push-button ignition, active noise cancelation, and a safety suite that includes lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high-beam headlights. The Preferred model with standard front-wheel drive starts at $31,800 plus a $1,195 destination charge.
The Essence adds leather upholstery and heated, power-adjustable front seats, plus a heated steering wheel. What’s more, the Essence has a 10-inch touchscreen, an 8-inch color driver information center, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a power liftgate. A front-drive Essence trim starts at $35,800 plus destination.
The Envision Avenir exudes luxury. Standard content on this top Envision model includes leather seating surfaces perforated in a diamond pattern, head-up display, massaging driver’s seat, 9-speaker Bose audio system, 360-degree camera, heated rear seats, and an infotainment system with more memory. It also has front and rear park assist, plus 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. Pricing for the Avenir starts at $40,200.
We’d recommend opting for the Essence trim since it offers a great blend of features like a larger touchscreen and power liftgate.
