The Toyota Tundra and the Ram 1500 are versatile full-size pickup trucks, able to cruise down the highway or take to the hills with their off-road packages. The Tundra and Ram 1500 are decently equipped for work or play. Both trucks received updates in 2025, with the Ram 1500 getting a complete facelift, and there are more updates for 2026, including the reintroduction of the popular Hemi engine on the Ram 1500.
Voted as one of the top three best trucks in 2025 by Kelley Blue Book (KBB), let’s see why the Tundra and Ram 1500 continue to be top in class.
2026 Toyota Tundra

The Tundra gains additional off-road features in 2026, including an available 3-inch TRD lift kit and Tow Tech package on the TRD Rally trim. The ISO Dynamic seats and their self-contained suspension system are now available on the TRD Pro and perform well on bumpy roads or across big old ruts. One of the biggest across-the-board changes is that the fuel tank grows from 22.5 gallons to 32.2 gallons on every trim.
Toyota Tundra Highlights
The Tundra remains a reliable choice in the full-size truck segment. Toyota keeps tweaking the Tundra with relevant tech and safety upgrades, along with continuous off-road design updates. Let’s see why the Tundra is a KBB top truck selectee.
Driving experience: Powered by a 358-horsepower twin-turbo V6 (dubbed i-Force) on the base SR model but tuned to 389 hp on other trims, the Tundra has enough power to haul up to 12,000 pounds. Also available is the more potent and more efficient i-Force Max hybrid, which pairs the twin-turbo V6 with a hybrid motor system. With this configuration, you get a combined 437 hp and a fuel economy rating of 22 mpg combined with rear-wheel drive (RWD) or 20 mpg with 4-wheel drive (4WD). The i Force carries a rating of 19 mpg combined (4WD) or 20 mpg (RWD). Both powertrains use the 10-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission and uphill or downhill shift logic. RWD is standard, and 4WD is available for an additional $3,000.
Distinct exterior styling: The Tundra’s wide stance, chunky tires, and higher ground clearance make this tough-looking pickup easy to spot in a crowd. The optional off-road packages contribute to the aesthetics, as does available “TOYOTA” badging, and an integrated light bar in the grille. Choose the TRD trim for a pop of color with retro striping in red/orange/yellow.
Features: The Tundra has standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on all trims, with an available 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The SR and SR5 offer three USB ports, while the other trims have five. A great feature is the available bump switch in the driver’s taillight housing; the tailgate raises or lowers with the push of the button.

2026 Ram 1500

Like the Tundra, the Ram 1500 is largely a carryover from 2025 with a couple of upgrades for the 2026 model year.
Ram 1500 Highlights
Engine options: After a 2025 hiatus, Ram heard its customers clamoring and brought back the popular 5.7-liter Hemi V8 for 2026. Other engine options include the base V6 paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system suitable for everyday work and towing, and the Ram’s “Hurricane” twin-turbo inline-six engine. Whatever you need to haul, you still want a comfortable ride, and the 1500 delivers it with a standard coil spring rear suspension. If you desire a cushier drive, opt for the air suspension.
Features and tech: Stay charged and connected with dual wireless charging pads in the front, cleverly designed to look like a book holder so your pricey devices don’t slide out. A 12-inch touchscreen comes standard, or on higher trims, you can opt for the 14.4-inch touchscreen, which can be split, so the driver and passenger can each run their own apps. Don’t want to share your screen? Then upgrade to the 10.25-inch screen for passengers.
Express trim: Drivers who need a workhorse on a budget can opt for the new Express trim. It can be configured with rear-wheel drive (RWD) or 4-wheel drive (4WD). It stands out with blacked-out headlamp bezels and monochromatic styling.
