Midsize Pickup Truck

The 2025 Toyota Tacoma: Who Is This Truck For?

The 2025 Toyota Tacoma is a midsize truck that’s known as much for desert runs and off-road adventure as it is for practicality and high resale value. It’s the best-selling truck in the highly competitive midsize truck segment, and a 5-time winner of Kelley Blue Book’s Midsize Truck Best Buy Award. The current generation of the Tacoma does an excellent job of doing hard work and being highly off-road capable, while also being surprisingly refined. It’s a nicely well-rounded truck that should pique the interest of anyone who wants to go off-road, tow, carry gear, or have a pleasant ride for their daily commute. Eight specialized trims appeal to all levels of off-roaders and overlanders, as well as people who want upscale features in the cabin.

The Tacoma is part of an all-new generation that debuted for 2024 and is essentially a carryover for 2025. This generation represents a big jump for Toyota, as it is now turbocharged 4-cylinder-powered only. Instead of a V6, a high-performance hybrid, called the i-Force Max, is available. The change under the hood means improved fuel economy and power while offering towing capacity of 6,500 pounds and payload capacity of 1,705 pounds. The Tacoma is available as an XtraCab with room for two people, or a Double Cab with room for five. There is a choice of a 5-foot or 6-foot bed with the Double Cab, but the XtraCab only comes with the 6-footer. 4-wheel drive (4WD) is available.

2025 Toyota Tacoma

The Tacoma has been around since 1995 and is now in its fourth generation. However, Toyota has a long legacy of selling small trucks in America, starting with the Stout in 1964 and continuing with the Pickup until 1994. Throughout the history of its compact and midsize trucks, Toyota has done extensive testing, including decades of knowledge from off-road racing, to ensure its trucks are highly capable, tough, and reliable.
