Midsize SUV Crossover

2026 Mazda CX-70 vs. 2026 Nissan Murano Comparison

If a compact SUV is too small and a 3-row SUV is too big, then a 2-row midsize SUV might just be the solution. The Mazda CX-70 and Nissan Murano are two appealing and upscale options that are packed with features you’ll appreciate. Let’s take a closer look at how these two models stack up against each other.

2026 Mazda CX-70

2026 Mazda CX-70

The Mazda CX-70 is a delightful midsize SUV that is powerfully responsive, while being fuel-conscious. No third row means more cargo space, which the CX-70 doesn’t skimp on, with almost 40 cubic feet of space behind the seats and thoughtfully designed storage and organization options for everyday use.

Mazda CX-70 Highlights

Upgrades: Although only one model year old, Mazda has made some notable upgrades to the base CX-70 trim for 2026, including new gloss-black exterior badging, standard leather-trimmed heated and ventilated front seats with eight-way power adjustments.

Interior: The CX-70 boasts an aesthetically appealing interior that surpasses that of most midsize SUVs. The little touches, such as power-folding second-row seats and a rear power liftgate, are just a few examples of features that enhance the driving experience. The infotainment system features a 12.3-inch screen, along with standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Higher trim levels offer a 12-speaker Bose system and a 360-degree View Monitor.

Engine Options: The CX-70 is available with three engine options. The base turbocharged 6-cylinder is zippy at 280 horsepower. If you’ll be doing some towing or just want some extra muscle in your family SUV, upgrade to one of the Turbo S models with 340 horsepower. Meanwhile, the plug-in hybrid option has a total system output of 323 horsepower.

2026 Nissan Murano

2025 Nissan Murano

The Nissan Murano got a striking facelift from the wheels up in 2025, but Nissan didn’t stop there. The 2026 model adds some nifty features to its base model, elevating the driving experience. The Murano is a terrific option for drivers looking for a relaxed ride. Loaded with standard safety and tech features, drivers can refine their driving experience across three trim levels.

Nissan Murano Highlights

Equipment: All-wheel drive (AWD) now comes standard across the lineup, and you can opt for the ProPILOT Assist 2.1, which enables hands-free driving on Nissan-mapped highways. We love hands-free highway driving, and it’s not an option in any Mazda SUVs.

Interior: The Murano oozes comfort, from the easy-to-slide-into driver’s seat with spacious headroom, to the Zero Gravity seats, which reduce fatigue on long drives.  Nissan ensures an enjoyable ride. The materials are nice, and if you want a little more luxury, check out the Platinum trim with semi-aniline leather upholstery and massaging front seats.

Comfort Package: The new Comfort Package available for the SL trim brings some of the luxuries of the Platinum trim to a more affordable price point. A few of those features include ventilated and massaging front seats, heated rear seats, and a hands-free power liftgate.

Conclusion

Both the Nissan Murano and Mazda CX-70 are strong contenders in the midsize 2-row SUV segment, but the CX-70 outshines the Murano with stronger engine performance, better fuel economy, and a hybrid option. The CX-70 also boasts a roomier back seat and cargo space. The Murano has its strengths as a comfy cruiser, but for most shoppers, the CX-70 is a better buy.
