2026 Kia Seltos vs. 2026 Chevrolet Trax Comparison

The 2026 Kia Seltos and 2026 Chevrolet Trax are subcompact SUVs undergoing minor model-year updates, but they remain in close competition as affordable family transportation options.

The Seltos received subtle updates last year that still bring value into 2026. But a fully redesigned second-generation has already been unveiled, which is expected to launch late in 2026 as a 2027 model. For 2026, the Seltos introduces a front-wheel drive (FWD) option for the base LX trim, further lowering the entry price.

As for the Chevrolet Trax, it has few changes. This stasis is unremarkable, given the recent update for 2024, which introduced a few new colors and wheel designs, along with standard floor mats. Unlike the Seltos, the Trax fell victim to a slight price increase, edging the two models even closer together than before.

Let’s take a closer look at some highlights of the Kia Seltos and Chevy Trax.

2026 Kia Seltos

2025 Kia Seltos

The 2026 Kia Seltos is available in four trims: LX, S, EX, and SX. The X-Line trim from last year has been discontinued. Even the entry-level version of the Seltos comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (wireless in the base LX, wired in S, EX, and SX, oddly), multiple USB ports, an 8-inch touchscreen, keyless entry, and a dual-level cargo floor.

Kia Seltos Highlights

Available AWD: You can opt in to all-wheel drive (AWD) on the LX, S, and EX models, and it comes standard on the SX trim. You won’t find this on the Chevrolet Trax; it’s strictly FWD.

Dual-screen infotainment display: A 10.25-inch digital instrument display and 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen are standard in every Seltos except the base LX. This sleek layout wouldn’t look out of place in other, more expensive SUVs.

Optional turbo 4-cylinder: Many Seltos shoppers will be satisfied with the entry-level 4-cylinder, which produces 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. Yet, for anyone looking for more straight-line speed, there’s an optional turbo 4-cylinder. It produces 190 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque at a low 1,600 rpm, and is standard on the top SX trim.

2026 Chevrolet Trax

2026 Chevrolet Trax RS

The Chevy Trax comes in five trims: LS, 1RS, LT, 2RS, and Activ. Standard equipment includes an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot, automatic high-beam headlights, and two USB ports. Under the hood of the Trax is a turbocharged 3-cylinder that sends 137 hp to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Chevrolet Trax Highlights

Good fuel economy: The Trax is one of your more fuel-efficient SUV options thanks to an EPA-rated 30 mpg combined average in city and highway driving. Its fuel costs are slightly lower than those of the Seltos, according to EPA estimates.

More backseat legroom: The Trax and the Seltos are both on the roomier side of subcompact SUVs, but the Trax has a slight edge in backseat legroom by about an inch. It doesn’t sound like much, but if you have adults or taller kids in the back seats regularly, they’ll appreciate the extra space.

Pure value:  The Chevy Trax continues to be an impressive value play in the segment, which is part of what makes it this segment’s bestseller. While the Seltos and other competitors may offer enticing additional options, those seeking the most affordable travel with utility space will be drawn to the Trax every time.

Similarities

These two are evenly matched in terms of blending a lot of space and creature comforts into a subcompact SUV shell. They each come with user-friendly infotainment systems with clear menus and sharp graphics. Driver aids are also plentiful, and they offer nearly equal amounts of cargo space behind their split-folding rear seatbacks.

Conclusion

With a lower price tag, slightly lower fuel costs, and a little extra backseat space, the Chevy Trax makes a strong case as the value winner in this comparison. However, cheaper doesn’t always mean a better value. The Seltos’s many strengths, like longer warranty coverage, more variety under the hood, and bigger screens, make it one of our favorite subcompact SUVs. The right one for you largely comes down to how much you’re looking to spend.
