Automakers often refer to their full-size SUVs as “flagship” vehicles. They’re meant to be a showcase of every performance part, high-tech feature, and luxurious creature comfort the brand can build.
The 2026 Infiniti QX80, by that logic, is the standard-bearer for the entire Nissan corporation globally. The 2026 Lexus LX serves in that role for Toyota.
Each is powerful, roomy, sumptuous, and flush with new technologies.
With two vehicles this well-equipped, most buyers would be happy to own either. But their differences are important, and might help you decide which is right for you.
Let’s take a closer look at the Infiniti QX80 and the Lexus LX.
2026 Infiniti QX80

Fully redesigned just last year, the Infiniti QX80 enters the 2026 model year still a fresh design. It’s lovely, with an imposing presence softened by artistic details. For 2026, it gets a new Sport trim level with stylish darkened trim. Pricing starts at $85,940 (including a $2,190 destination fee), though at the highest trim level, this is the first six-figure Infiniti.
Infiniti QX80 Highlights
Exceptional design: All flagship SUVs are impressive sights, but the QX80 must be seen in person to be understood. It takes the formidable presence common to a 3-row luxury SUV and enhances it with elegant details. The grille’s diagonal strakes, on closer examination, are inspired by the stalks of a bamboo forest. Lighting details are piano keys. It’s one of the few car designs that rewards real examination.
Available 24-speaker Klipsch audio system: Klipsch is a new name in car audio, but a long-respected brand in home audio. This system has a common-sense touch we’ve hardly seen elsewhere – both front seats have headrest-mounted speakers, but turn-by-turn directions and phone calls are played only to the driver. That keeps the entertainment uninterrupted for everyone else. This is an idea we hope every automaker picks up on. So far, they haven’t.
Autograph trim pampers the rear passengers, too: Like most luxury rivals, Infiniti builds a sumptuous top trim level that turns up the elegance to 11. In the QX80 Autograph, that means second-row passengers get massaging seats. Many automotive massaging seats give a disappointingly light rub, but these do real work on your muscles.

2026 Lexus LX

2026 Lexus LX Highlights
Lexus has one of the most extensive SUV lineups on the market, ranging from subcompact to full-size, with gas-powered vehicles, hybrids, and fully electric models. But the LX is the boss. A full-size model with seating for seven, it comes in many forms, giving buyers more choice than most competitors. Prices start at $107,950, including a $1,450 delivery fee.
Available hybrid power: Every QX80 gets the same 450-horsepower turbocharged V6. LX buyers get the choice of its own turbocharged V6 (making 409 hp) or a hybrid setup with 457 hp. It’s rated for 20 mpg in combined city/highway driving, which is impressive for a vehicle this heavy, and 2 mpg better than the Infiniti.
Available Overtrail model: Flagship SUVs have everything. Sort of. Lexus figured out what was missing – extraordinary off-road capability – and offers it as a separate trim level. Front and rear electronically locking differentials, a skid plate, and 33-inch all-terrain tires on 18-inch wheels help it go places other SUVs this luxurious can’t.
Available F-Sport Handling model: If on-road performance is more your thing, Lexus has you covered there, too. All LX models come with an electronically locking center differential, but the F-Sport Handling grade also gets a limited-slip rear differential, which adds to the model’s engaged, dynamic feel.

Conclusion
There aren’t any bad cars in this exclusive class. But the Infiniti QX80 and Lexus LX are both exceptionally well-designed full-size luxury SUVs with excellent fit-and-finish and lush surfaces. If you need a special ability like off-road skills, the Lexus offers you more choices. But outside of that circumstance, we’re pretty swayed by the Infiniti’s similar offering for a lower price.
