Among the brands with versatile offerings in the midsize pickup segment, Honda and Chevrolet took different approaches to their trucks. The Honda Ridgeline is built on the same car-like platform as the Pilot and Passport SUVs. And while it looks like a pickup, it offers a smoother, more comfortable ride.
Conversely, the Chevrolet Colorado is a traditional body-on-frame or ladder-frame pickup. In practical terms, you’ll get a harsher, bouncier ride that most people associate with trucks.
How else are the 2025 Honda Ridgeline and 2025 Chevrolet Colorado different? Let’s find out.
2025 Honda Ridgeline
Pickup purists might overlook the 2025 Honda Ridgeline because of its unibody construction. Pickups are historically built on stiffer ladder frames, accounting for the bouncy ride you get while in the cab. Fortunately, besides that, the Ridgeline looks and acts like a real truck.
It’s the pickup for someone whose day job isn’t in construction. It’s perfect for projects that involve trips to the local home improvement store where you’ll need to load up a lot of stuff, such as mulch, lumber, or bigger tools. Power comes from a 280-hp V6, and all-wheel drive (AWD) is standard. The Ridgeline is beefy enough to tow 5,000 pounds. Plus, it’s got a multifunction tailgate that makes it easier to load whatever you plan to carry.
With room for five people, it’s a fine everyday vehicle. It’s loaded with all the safety and convenience technology you could want in any vehicle. Pricing starts at $41,600, including destination fees.
Honda Ridgeline Highlights
Comfortable ride: Because of that unibody construction, the Ridgeline doesn’t give occupants that bouncy, rough ride folks so often endure in a pickup. Since it’s rare that midsize pickups don’t perform multiple functions, including operating as a daily commuter, that softer, more controlled ride is good news for your back.
Ideal interior: Honda put a lot of thought into the cabin of the Honda Ridgeline, making it more functional for daily driving duties. For example, the center console is large enough to hold a full-size tablet in the armrest storage unit. The back seat, one of the roomiest in its segment, features several easy-to-access cubbies for passengers, and with the seats flipped up, you get plenty of room for weather-sensitive cargo, such as groceries or that television.
Off-roader: Like some other Honda models, there’s a TrailSport version of the Ridgeline available to make it a viable vehicle for those heading off into the great outdoors.

2025 Chevrolet Colorado
2024 model shown
Redesigned just a couple of years ago, the 2025 Chevrolet Colorado has a large front grille, slit-like headlamps, and wide wheel wheels that let everyone know this is a tough, capable pickup.
With several trims available, the Colorado can be configured as everything from a work truck to a rock crawler. Pricing starts at $33,495 for the WT (work truck). However, most people will upgrade to at least the LT to get a few more goodies. For another $3,300, 4-wheel drive (4WD) can be added to the WT and LT models, which is standard for each ascending trim package.
New for 2025, all trim levels of the Colorado come standard with a 2.7-liter turbo 4-cylinder engine with 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. Pricing starts at $33,495, including destination fee.
Chevrolet Colorado Highlights
Big screen: An 11.3-inch touchscreen is a standard in the Colorado, besting the 9-inch unit in the Ridgeline. It’s also an easy system to operate. Moreover, Google built-in is offered with connectivity to a driver’s Google account.
Powerful engine: The sole engine for the Colorado is a 2.7-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that puts out 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. And this truck can tow more than 7,000 pounds, which beats the Honda Ridgeline’s towing muscle.
Over the top: If you need a rough-and-ready off-roader straight from the factory, pass the Trail Boss and go straight to the ZR2 Bison. The ultimate off-roading Colorado gives you several upgrades designed for maximizing any off-road experience, including a raised suspension, larger wheels and tires, unique off-road dampers, and more.

Conclusion
The Chevy has a much lower starting price — until you move up the line of trim levels and off-road capability and the amount of features increases. However, some of the Colorado’s trim levels cost thousands less than those of the Honda Ridgeline. If you’re looking for a traditional pickup that’s more affordable and maneuverable than a full-size truck, the Chevy Colorado is among the best in its class. However, if you want a pickup truck that rides like a midsize SUV, the Honda Ridgeline is one of the only trucks of its kind.
