The 2025 Genesis G90 and 2025 Audi A8 are full-size luxury sedans that spoil and cosset anyone lucky enough to sit inside. They have exquisitely detailed cabins and glide down the road as if they were ground-hugging private jets.
Of the two, the Genesis G90 is the relative newbie in a class that also includes long-running models like the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The G90 received a major redesign for the 2023 model year, so changes for 2025 are negligible.
The A8 has been Audi’s flagship sedan for decades. Known for its tenacious grip and one of the best interiors in the luxury vehicle realm, the A8 is sophisticated and understated in equally generous measures.
To see how they compare, let’s look at the highlights of each car.
2025 Genesis G90
2024 model shown
The 2025 Genesis G90 starts at $90,950. Even in this high-end milieu, the G90 stands out for its sleek exterior that includes a shield-shaped grille flanked by narrow LED headlights. If a luxury car could win a stare-off challenge, our money would be on the G90.
The standard drivetrain consists of a 375-turbocharged V6 coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. During our many test drives, we’ve admired this engine’s smooth power delivery and refinement.
Genesis G90 Highlights
Luxurious seating: The G90’s front seats are finished in Nappa leather upholstery and equipped with heating, ventilation, and massage functions. The driver’s seat is exquisite. Life is also pretty good in the back, where optional perks include temperature and massage functions, powered rear sunshades, and a center console with a wireless charging pad.
Warranty coverage: This benefit is standard across the Genesis portfolio. The G90 comes with a 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, 10 years/100,000 miles of powertrain coverage, and 3 years/36,000 miles of complimentary scheduled maintenance.
Highway Driving Assist 2: If long stints of highway driving factor into your weekly routine, you’ll love knowing Highway Driving Assist 2 comes in every Genesis G90. Using adaptive cruise control, lane centering and road sign recognition, this partially autonomous highway driving system makes for a relaxed yet safe ride. We’ve found it works extremely well.
E-Supercharger model: The G90 E-Supercharger takes the same basic turbo V6 in the regular G90 and, unsurprisingly, adds an electric supercharger. This provides 34 extra horsepower and nudges the standstill-to-60 mph time down to a zesty 5.1 seconds.

2025 Audi A8
2024 model shown
The 2025 Audi A8 has a starting price of $93,295. This is for the A8 L 55 TFSI, with a 335-hp turbocharged V6 linked to an 8-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. We’ve found this drivetrain provides suitable acceleration and passing power, although its zero-to-60 mph time of 5.6 seconds is slower than a number of rivals. Relatively fresh from a styling update for the 2022 model year, the 2025 A8 arrives with only minor changes.
Audi A8 Highlights
Virtual Cockpit Plus: Audi excels in cabin quality and tech features. One of our favorites is Virtual Cockpit Plus, a customizable digital instrument panel placing vital vehicle information directly in the driver’s line of sight. This means not needing to glance away from the road to check, say, navigation commands on a dash-mounted display.
Rear legroom: Even among large luxury sedans, the A8 spoils rear occupants with copious amounts of space. The A8 provides 44.3 inches of rear legroom, as opposed to 37.8 inches in the Genesis G90.
S8 Quattro: The S8 Quattro is the model to choose for those who like the A8 yet prefer a vehicle that feels like a rocket is attached to its roof. Thanks to its 563-hp twin-turbo V8, the S8 Quattro blasts from standstill to 60 mph in only 3.8 seconds. It also has a firmer suspension and even greater agility. A V8 used to be optional in the Genesis G90, but not in the 2025 model.
Luxury option package: This options bundle offers an interesting mix of maneuverability and opulence. For a little more than $5,000, it includes rear-wheel steering, as well as outboard rear seats with heating, ventilation, and massage functions.

Similarities
The Genesis G90 and Audi A8 are both pretty awesome machines. They each have exceptionally attractive interiors, plus contemporary driver aids and onboard tech. Even their starting prices put them within a relative whisker of each other.
Conclusion
We would be happy to call either of these two sedans our own. Yet it’s the Genesis G90 that leads our ranking of the Best Luxury Fullsize Cars. Credit its stronger base drivetrain, smart exterior design, outstanding warranty, and posh interior.
The A8 counters with a cabin that’s equally classy in appearance and material quality, perhaps even more so. But its standard turbo V6 can feel pretty pedestrian when quick acceleration is needed. And while some might prefer its subtler exterior, we think it veers a little too conservative. Genesis G90 for the win.
