Fullsize Pickup Truck

2024 Ford F-150 vs. 2024 Nissan Titan Comparison

Fresh from an update, the 2024 Ford F-150 has a freshened exterior, more standard tech touches, and class-leading towing and hauling capabilities. In other words, the best-selling full-size pickup truck in the U.S. has been made even better.

Of course, the F-150 doesn’t have the market all to itself. One of its unheralded rivals is the Nissan Titan. Nissan introduced this Titan generation for the 2016 model year. In its final model year, the Titan still boasts a great warranty, a strong V8 engine, and a long list of driver aids.

Are Nissan’s assets titanic enough to sink the mighty Ford F-150? Let’s see how these two full-size pickup trucks compare.

The 2024 Ford F-150 has a starting price of $38,765, including a $1,995 delivery fee. This model year ushers in a sizable round of updates, though Ford has kept the F-150’s basic winning formula very much in place.

Truck shoppers who like plenty of choices will enjoy the fact that the Ford F-150 offers five engine options, three cab sizes, three cargo bed lengths, and a dizzying array of trims and options.

Ford F-150 Highlights

Towing and hauling abilities: The Ford F-150 has a maximum payload capacity of 2,455 pounds and a 13,500-pound towing capacity. These figures are notably greater than the Nissan Titan’s 1,710 hauling ability and 9,320-pound towing capacity.

Upgraded infotainment: Newly standard is a 12-inch digital instrument display and 12-inch infotainment touchscreen. Every Ford F-150 now comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, advanced voice recognition, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and multiple USB ports. A head-up instrument display is also optional for the first time in the F-150.

Powertrain choices: The base powertrain is a surprisingly punchy and relatively frugal 320-horsepower twin-turbo 2.7-liter V6. The Ford F-150 can also be had with a 5.0-liter V8, a hybrid V6, a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6, and a 720-hp supercharged 5.2-liter V8 in the Raptor R model. Depending on the chosen model and trim, the twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 delivers anywhere from 400 to 450 hp.

BlueCruise: This system is a hands-free driving aid we’ve come to love. You can activate it on more than 130,000 miles of highways throughout North America. You get it standard on the Platinum Plus trim, though you can option it in all trims above the base XL. Even better, you can subscribe to the service later if you don’t order it with your new truck.

2024 Nissan Titan

The 2024 Nissan Titan enters another model year with a few notable updates. Gone are the base S trim and the rear-wheel-drive King Cab model. The SV Bronze Edition is a new cosmetic package with bronze and black exterior and interior trim pieces.

The Titan starts at $48,700 (including a $2,010 delivery fee), a starting price that’s significantly higher than the Ford F-150 XL. The Nissan doesn’t have a single-cab variant and has a standard V8, so the comparison isn’t exactly apples to apples. To its credit, the Nissan comes with several standard comfort, safety, and tech items that would add thousands to the price tag of many full-size truck rivals.

Nissan Titan Highlights

Strong V8: Unlike almost every other full-size pickup, the Nissan Titan has only one engine choice. We’re big fans of this 5.6-liter V8. In city and highway driving, it feels refined and unflustered.

Streamlined buying process: Despite Ford’s assertion that the F-150 buying process is now less complicated than solving a Rubik’s Cube with a blindfold, the Nissan Titan reigns as the more straightforward purchasing process. There is one choice of engine, one cargo bed length, and two cabin sizes. Like the F-150, there is also the choice of rear-wheel drive (RWD) or 4-wheel drive (4WD).

Warranty coverage: Also worth noting is that the Titan has one of the best warranties among full-size trucks. You get 5 years/100,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper and powertrain coverage. This warranty beats the coverage of the Ford F-150.

Nissan Safety Shield 360: This bundle of driver aids includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, road sign recognition, and rear emergency braking.

Similarities

The Ford F-150 and Nissan Titan are pretty close in size, fuel economy, and adaptability for everything from towing and hauling to off-road driving and daily commutes.

Conclusion

While the Nissan Titan has many fine attributes, this contest is a blowout win for the Ford F-150. It simply offers more for anyone interested in a full-size truck. You have more engine choices, greater towing and hauling capability, and a much higher degree of trims. 2024 marks the last model year for this generation of the Titan. Nissan has confirmed that its largest truck offering will soon drive into the automotive sunset.
