The GMC Sierra isn’t about to roll over and play dead. This generation’s truck received a significant revamp for the 2022 model year, so it’s still fresh and ready for battle.

Let’s take a closer look at the highlights of the latest Ford F-150 and GMC Sierra 1500.

2025 Ford F-150

2025 Ford F-150 Tremor

Following last year’s mid-cycle refresh, which included a facelift with new exterior styling, a spruced-up interior, clever cargo options, an innovative tailgate variant, and extra tech touches, the 2025 Ford F-150 only sees minor changes. Undoubtedly, Ford’s full-size pickup truck will maintain its commanding market position. The Ford F-150 has been the best-selling vehicle in the U.S. for more than four decades.

Ford F-150 Highlights

Engine choices: Ford provides an engine for every type of F-150 buyer: five in total, including a 320-horsepower twin-turbo 2.7-liter V6 that’s the standard powertrain. Also available is a 5.0-liter V8, a hybrid V6, a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6, and a 720-horsepower supercharged 5.2-liter V8 for the Raptor R model.

More interior tech: Inside, you’ll discover a 12-inch digital instrument display and a 12-inch infotainment touchscreen. Found on all F-150 trucks, this system includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, advanced voice recognition, over-the-air updates, multiple USB ports, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Class-leading towing and hauling: When properly equipped, the Ford F-150 has a maximum payload capacity of 2,455 pounds and a maximum towing capacity of 13,500 pounds. The Sierra has a payload and towing max of 2,240 and 13,200 pounds, respectively.

Pro Access tailgate: This is a handy access door within the tailgate. It swings up to 100 degrees to the side to permit quick and easy access to the cargo bed. The Pro Access tailgate is an answer to GM’s MultiPro tailgate — how effective an answer depends on what a truck owner needs.

2025 GMC Sierra 1500

2025 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate

The GMC Sierra enters the 2024 model year with some noteworthy updates. A turbodiesel inline-6 is now standard on the off-road-ready AT4X trim. You can also order an active exhaust for the Denali, Denali Ultimate, AT4, AT4X, and SLT trims.

The utilitarian Pro grade anchors the trim-level lineup; however, more Sierra buyers opt for something with more features, such as the SLT trim. It has a 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, leather upholstery, and a sunroof.

GMC Sierra 1500 Highlights

Torque-rich turbo 4-cylinder: Like the Ford F-150, the GMC Sierra has many engine options. We think many truck buyers would be surprised by the power and performance of the standard turbo 4-cylinder. It produces 310 hp and, even more impressively, 430 lb-ft of torque. That’s more than what the available 5.3-liter V8 offers. Also available is a 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-6 and a 6.2-liter V8.

AT4 models: Fancy getting off the beaten path? The AT4 and AT4X trims target Sierra owners who intend to do some off-road driving. Among other go-anywhere add-ons, they come with a 2-speed transfer case, underbody skid plates, a 2-inch lift, hill descent control, and upgraded suspension.

Trailering made easy: Features like the Trailer Camera System and Max Trailering Package are ideal additions for anyone intent on towing and trailering. The camera system has 14 views of the truck and trailer, including a mode that makes the trailer seemingly disappear. At the same time, Max Trailering goodies consist of stronger rear springs, tougher shocks, a more robust rear axle, and additional cooling.

MultiPro tailgate: This 2-piece tailgate can be a handy step to get into the cargo bed, a work surface on the road, or a load stop for the cargo bed. It has six positions and is an ingenious piece of truck tech.

Conclusion

The GMC Sierra is worth checking out, particularly in high-zoot Denali trims. These trucks are pricey, but they come loaded with luxury and tech touches.

The Ford F-150 is still the full-size truck to beat with a dizzying amount of permutations. Even the base work truck variant has a solid feature set.
