"Not your mothers loser cruiser"

This car is pure luxury. We got the 2018 Hybrid Limited. It handles smoothly. Its quiet. And despite the hybrid engine, it still has pick up. Ive never enjoyed driving a car as much as I do this one. And yes, Ive only had it for about 36 hours now, but Im hooked on it already.

Critical Review

"It’s awful-run-don’t buy it!"

The car: I’ve owned the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid 2018 since July 2018. It is currently 2/27/2021, and I’m 177 miles from home, broken down FOR THE THIRD TIME! The first time the van broke down on me, I B was 35 miles from home and has had it less than a year. Due to the part being for a hybrid, it took them 22 days to get my car fixed. They second time it broke down was November 22, 2020. I was 101 miles from home, and it took 10 days for them to fix. Each and every time it’s broken down, it has been a coil gone bad.

Dad is gonna LOVE this van!
Pros

Excellent controlled stopping coupled with excellent controlled acceleration

Cons

I will update this if I find any.

I drive the 2024 Pacifica plug in hybrid. My particular vehicle is work issued and has a rack in the back so it only has the two front seats available for passenger and driver. I load the rack of shelves in the back with the parts to repair the devices that I fix therefore it has more than the standard amount of weight in the back for comparison. This van is fast ignore the 260 hp rating, that’s for the electric motors which are completely different than a gas driven engine that has 260 hp. The acceleration is instantaneous you want power? Ok HERE! Have some power but in a completely controlled way. The engine kicks on but its not connected to the driveline so their is no torque steer. It just goes. Think of the throttle as a “wish granter” you step on the pedal and your wish is granted. I am continually amazed at how hard this thing will pull when you step on it. I am by no means a non-aggressive driver however I am trying to be a much more of a team player when I’m out on the highway. This vehicle ends the argument instantly. “NO I am going to pass you.” That brings me to the adaptive cruise control. This is amazing stuff right here. Didn’t think I’d like it. Yeah I love it. You can set it and forget it. You can change the distance between you and the car in front of you so if traffic gets kinda heavy, you don’t have to leave a huge hole for everybody to merge into. You can also adjust the speed it maxes out at. Then there’s the drive mode called L for some reason. This is like an extra set of brakes No kidding throw this on at 70-75 miles an hour and watch the car immediately come down from speed completely under control. Add the brake pedal to the equation and it stops even faster again completely under control. Another feature of the L setting is that when put here and your driving through speed bumps or dips or severe corners in a parking lot, the suspension hunkers down, and the body roll is almost completely negated to where when you maneuver through what used to be a rather jostling ride is now completely smooth. Dips and speed bumps disappear. I have enjoyed driving my entire life, and I never thought I would like an electric vehicle. Let alone a van. I am more of a sedan / sports car / race car kinda guy. Take one of these on a test drive Find a nice long straight stretch of deserted road and get the vehicle up to 60-70 miles an hour (or whatever is safe) then put it into L and step on the brakes progressively hard (but SLOWLY) and watch just how fast this thing slows down. Remember, my review is with at least 600 pounds of equipment in the back of the van on racks. None of my items move an inch. They all stay exactly where they’re supposed to because the van doesn’t really pitch forward when you step on the brakes under L it just kind of stops very quickly. Again, try it and see if you don’t just love it. Oh and yes it does get good gas mileage, I doubt I am getting what everyone else is but I have a huge smile on my face as I enjoy this vehicle.

Smooth ride, great mpg

I’ve had the vehicle for two weeks. My first plug-in hybrid. I wish the charge lasted longer/regeneration was more efficient. But I’m averaging well over 30 mpg, and even hit 99.9mpg on a short drive. Great features- everything I could want.

Feeling lucky
Pros

Performs as well as the Toyota and Honda minivans.

Cons

Potential for service issues

So, I bought this because I have solar panels that generate more electricity than my house consumes, wanted to dip my toes in the waters of electric vehicles and had employment contract and tax considerations that made this a surprisingly inexpensive choice for me. I have two big dogs that wouldn't fit into a Tesla. If you are interested in an upper end minivan, I think this is a good choice. Pretty much the only option I didn't get was the full length sunroof. The sound system is amazing. The video screens are essential kid distracters, if you haven't given up yet as a parent and just attached them to an ipad or phone. The DVD player is glitchy. I usually hate Chrysler products, but this was the only option that checked all the boxes, and in my situation if it sucked bad enough, I would just sell it and move on. That said, it hasn't broken down on me. About 70% of my driving is electric. The car uses about 3.5 Mw of electricity/year and gets about 31 mpg when the battery gets to it's minimum. You have no control on whether it will use electricity or gas and the car seamlessly flips back and forth. I installed a car charger in my garage to optimize charging (2 hrs vs 11). Over the five years and 75k miles since purchase the battery capacity has declined about 15%. The batteries are made by LG and mine was checked to confirm it (likely) won't catch on fire. I bought a JEEP about the same time, and have had more issues with recalls on that than the Pacifica. Barring any severe breakdown, I anticipate this will be my daughters first driver in a few years. I was really hoping electric car quality, choices and prices would have improved by now, but will hang in there for a few more years.

Hybrid love/ hate.
Pros

Smooth ride / accommodations / hybrid

Cons

Hybrid maintenance

Absolutely LOVE/ LOVED this vehicle until the hybrid part went out TWICE.. luckily it was under warranty, ended up trading it in to not deal with the problems or worry about the next “fix”.. but all the features & the ride is amazing for a big family! Pros- driving around town only having to get gas once a month or longer. All the features for the kiddos & parents makes life easy! CONS- HYBRID. Loved it until issues started.. once it stated it problems just never stopped. & they have to keep it in the shop/ have a special working unit so it took FOREVER for each fix.

A great van for those who'd "never own a van"
Pros

Great for around town because no gas

Cons

Gas pedal can be touchy but you'll get use to it

My wife and I said "We'd NEVER own a van". But here we are two kids down owning a mini van. I told her if I'm selling my pride to own a van it better be the nicest one around. We looked at the odyssey but being the techy person I am I was drawn to the hybrid system on it. I am pleasantly surprised by the get up and go it has. I like the surround view system. It rides like your grandma's Cadillac and it's a van that looks half decent.

Do not buy this van

We have owned this car for 2 years and it has spent about as much time in the garage or parked as it has on the road. When it drives, the car is great... when it drives. We spent months waiting for the electric coolant heater, now we need a new transmission after a month of the car being parked from the crankshaft recall... and note... Chrysler does not offer rentals or loaners. You're just making payments on a broken undeliverable vehicle. I will never buy another mopare vehicle.
