"Love my Chevrolet Trax"

I purchased my Trax in May and love it. I had a 2010 GMC Terrain and it was out of warranty. I searched around for a similar vehicle, but a little smaller. The Trax had what I looking for. I got the LTZ with the leather seating and sun roof. The interior is as comfortable as the Terrain. Love the handling on the road. I have less blind spots than the Terrain. Love, love the backup camera. I can even back into a spot with the help of the monitor. Parking is no longer a problem. The bose speaker system is excellent. With Serius X-M you don't trouble listening to what ever you want. I also love the blue-tooth capability. So far I love it. Miss my Terrain but not that much.

"2018 Chevy Trax not good for Cold Weather"

This is my first winter with my brand new 2018 Chevy Trax. This is a great handling car. It works great in snow. The All Wheel Drive System works great. Why are my ratings so low you may ask? Well this cars turbo and engine are not what they should be in cold Wisconsin Winters. Then the temperature dips below 20 degrees, this car has trouble shifting and the turbo quits working and the check engine light comes on and the engine looses power. Yes all this is happening with a Brand New Chevy Trax. I took it in and they said that the parts to fix it are few and far between so be prepared to wait a long time before a fix is available! If the engine worked the way it should this car would have gotten a 5 from me!

Since the mileage reached 71,000 miles, this suv has been in and out of repair shops, mainly electrical issues. I still have payments left on them.

Don't waste your money

My 2016, with only 78,000 miles on it, the turbo went out. I was quoted almost $2,000 to have it replaced. ( 2 weeks prior the ignition coil and spark plugs needed replaced, it cost 500.00). GM is aware of the defective turbos. They should recall them. I should have done my research before buying it

Terrible buy

I've only own this vehicle 14 months. I paid $6k for it and already had to put $4k more into it (not counting tires and oil). I've had to replace both motor mount, anx the entire exhaust from front to back, then I started having problems with the heating/AC working properly. Last week the P0299 code popped up. I refuse to put more money into it. I will NEVER own another car with a turbo in it as long as I live!!!

Pros

Perfect car for starters

Cons

None

It’s all highway mileage. I use it to go back and forth to work. I work 35 minutes away. And also go get my son every other weekend 89 miles away.

Pros

Comfort, spacious and still feeling modern with android auto and apple carplay

Cons

Rear design looks outdated, paint problems

In 2026, I recently bought this low mileage Chevy Trax The turbo had been replaced. It was done by the previous owner. Managed to pick it up for 7500. Aside from the surface rust from paint burning on the roof(I plan to fix it since it's been an outdoor car) Mechanic said it was good so I got it for a really good deal. Fir a first car, this is a great one because of how simple it is to drive. I would suggest buying blindspots mirrors on Amazon though. The car market is horrible on prices right now.

Not worth it

2016 Trax, 79,000 miles when purchased in the beginning on ‘24 within the first 3 months water pump, coolant manifold and expansion reservoir replace, then after that oil cooler line ( mechanic ended up braking the turbo), Coolant manifold 2 more times. Bakes pads and brake pads again. Did drive it much this winter ’25-‘26. In the shop again for timing cover, valve cover gasket, tie rods, radiator and general servicing!

Biggest mistake of my life tbh

For the love of all that is holy, DO NOT BUY THIS CAR, I cannot stress this enough. It’s been the most expensive vehicle to take care of, that I’ve ever owned. I’m talking thousands of dollars of repairs and replacement's in just the span of a year and a half. I don’t know if it’s just this year in particular of this vehicle that’s this bad, but it’s been miserable and I wouldn’t wish this financial burden on anyone.

Electrical Problems

I bought this used with 53000 miles on it in 2025. Started having electrical problem almost immediately which the dealer tried to fix with a module replacement. Still was having intermittent codes (Power Steering error, Transmission error) and would go into limp mode. The dealer gave up and refused to try anything more after having it for over a week. So I went online and did a search for the engine type and errors other's were having. Apparently, the same engine is used in the Chevy Cruz, which had an electrical recall for the negative ground cable to the battery due to internal rusting. Dealer refuse to try this fix because of no recall for my car, so I had a local garage put in a new cable. After clearing all the codes it hasn't had this problem anymore. Won't be buying from that dealer in Baltimore again!
