The 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe full-size 3-row SUV has muscular capability and refined manners to make work and play easy. Pricing starts at $56,195.
The 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe is equal parts workhorse and versatile family hauler. All models come with three rows of seats and can accommodate between seven and nine passengers, depending on their configuration. Ample space is a trademark of the Tahoe, and this latest model boasts cargo room that handily outmatches the Ford Expedition, Toyota Sequoia, and Nissan Armada, its key rivals in the full-size SUV segment. Buyers requiring even more cargo room can look to the Chevrolet Suburban, reviewed separately.
The Tahoe’s big presence requires big power, and it has that, too. You get a choice of two V8 engines or something that’s become a rarity – a superb 6-cylinder turbodiesel that provides a lot of grunt. Thanks to its rugged truck-based chassis, the Tahoe excels at towing as well as tackling off-road trails. Yet this latest-gen Tahoe is also the most comfortable yet and can be had with GM’s cutting-edge Super Cruise hands-free driving system.
We’ve spent hundreds of hours driving and evaluating this generation of full-size SUVs, including the Chevy Tahoe.
The Tahoe is still quite fresh after a total revamp for the 2021 model year, with no major changes for 2024. It’s possible that we’ll see a freshening for the 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe.
The 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe has a starting sticker price of $56,195, with the range-topping Tahoe High Country kicking off at $78,895. But Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Pricing currently suggests paying $2,628 to $4,594 less than MSRP, depending on trim and equipment. These prices are updated weekly.

The 2024 Tahoe’s starting price is lower than a Toyota Sequoia ($60,875) and higher than the Nissan Armada (estimated $51K) and the 3-row Ford Expedition ($55,525). The Tahoe’s corporate sibling, the GMC Yukon, starts at a bit more: $58,200. Even higher is the Jeep Wagoneer at nearly $62K. If you don’t need all the truck-like capability of the Tahoe, the all-new 3-row 2024 Chevrolet Traverse is expected to start around $37K.
Before buying, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to see what others in your area are paying for their new Tahoe. The Chevy Tahoe’s resale value is expected to hold up well, just behind the Yukon and ahead of the Expedition, Sequoia, and Armada.
“Wow, this suspension is good.” That’s just one of the entries from our logbook after testing the Chevrolet Tahoe. That hadn’t always been the case, but with this generation’s move to an independent rear suspension, the Tahoe has shed some of the worst of its truck-like ways despite still using a strong, truck-based chassis. We enjoyed mile after mile in the Tahoe thanks to its more refined and comfortable road manners. When equipped with the optional magnetic ride control suspension, things get even smoother and plusher.
We also laud its powertrain. All of them, in fact. Even the base 5.3-liter V8 remains a tried-and-true stalwart that easily moves the Tahoe. The larger and more potent 6.2-liter V8 provides even more effortless acceleration, plus a deeper roar. Then there’s the turbodiesel inline 6-cylinder engine. Where almost all others have abandoned the diesel, we’re glad that GM still offers it because this powertrain has a deep well of power and returns far better fuel economy – up to 28 mpg on the highway. All are connected to a 10-speed transmission that we’ve found smooth and seamless.
The Tahoe is a big vehicle for sure, but in our tests, we also noted how it seemed to drive smaller than its size would have you believe. The only thing we’re not fans of is the buttons that must be used to put the Tahoe into Drive, Reverse, Park, etc. They are mounted to the right of the steering wheel and high in the dash to save space, but the process takes getting used to and can be a hassle when doing a more intricate move like parallel parking.
With its standard 5.3-liter V8, the Chevy Tahoe isn’t as fuel efficient as the Ford Expedition, Toyota Sequoia, and Jeep Wagoneer, which use 6-cylinder powertrains. That standard engine in the Tahoe delivers 17 mpg in mixed city/highway driving with either rear-wheel drive (RWD) or 4-wheel drive (4WD). Stepping up to the 6.2-liter V8 lowers that figure to 16 mpg combined. However, the Tahoe has a secret weapon in its available 6-cylinder diesel engine. Fitted with that, it earns 24 mpg combined with RWD, which is best-in-class and beats the Sequoia’s highest figure by two mpg. With 4WD and the diesel, the Tahoe still earns 22 mpg. In case you’re wondering, the Nissan Armada sits at the bottom of this bunch with 16 mpg in RWD form and 15 mpg with 4WD. More Tahoe fuel economy information can be found on the EPA’s website.
All 2024 Chevy Tahoe models have three rows of seats. Most trims will be configured with either total seating for eight when there is a second-row bench or seven when you opt for captain’s chairs in that middle row. But the Tahoe is also one of the few vehicles outside a transportation van that can seat nine. This arrangement comes via a front bench seat – yeah, remember those? – and is only available on the base LS trim.
Premier and High Country models only come with the 7-passenger configuration, and they also feature a powered moving center console with 10 inches of travel front to rear. It includes secure storage, cup holders, and a sliding armrest. All but the base LS model include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.2-inch central touchscreen. The LS model makes do with a more straightforward 8-inch center touchscreen.
The Tahoe has good legroom in all three rows and more cargo room than its direct rivals. There are 25.5 cubic feet behind the third row, 72.6 with it folded, and a cavernous 122.9 cubic feet with both rear rows folded. Compare that to the Ford Expedition’s 19.3/57.5/104.6.
At 17.5 feet long, the 2024 Tahoe full-size SUV takes up the same kind of real estate as the Ford Expedition. It’s a big vehicle, and for many people, that is part of its appeal. We think it wears its proportions well, though. To our eyes, the Tahoe boasts an inherent gravitas but doesn’t overreach to become gaudy. Even the more chrome-laden High Country models wouldn’t look too out of place at the worksite. And everyone will know who’s the boss. Tahoe Z71 models look the toughest of the bunch, with a distinctive honeycomb grille, chunky all-terrain tires, skid plate, and red recovery hooks.
Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto
The ability to connect a smartphone to a vehicle’s infotainment system is great, yet taken for granted these days. The 2024 Chevy Tahoe goes one better by doing without a cable connection, so users can keep their phones in a pocket or purse.
Digital instrument cluster
This 12.3-inch digital display becomes standard in the one-up-from-base LT trim and makes a fine tech complement to the 10.2-inch infotainment touchscreen that also comes in at this trim level.
Super Cruise
This feature debuted on Cadillac models not long ago and is now available in top trims of the Tahoe. It is among the most advanced systems available, allowing hands-free driving on hundreds of thousands of miles of pre-mapped roads.
Z71
With its ladder-frame construction, the Tahoe, by nature, is ready to tackle the rough stuff. The Z71 model takes its off-road credentials further with standard 4WD, underbody protection, recovery hooks, and more. Also, it just looks really cool.
Hands-free tailgate
Another feature that is standard on all but the base LS trim, this could quickly become the Tahoe’s most valuable asset for harried, arms-full-of-groceries parents.
Bose audio
Do you know what else every model but the LS gets? A better audio system. Because Mom and Dad should also have the opportunity to enjoy the beat.
Three powertrains are available for the 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe. The standard engine is a 5.3-liter V8 that makes 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. Standard in the High Country and optional for the RST, Z71, and Premier trims is a 6.2-liter V8 making 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Optional on all but the Z71 is GM’s Duramax 3.0-liter inline-6 turbodiesel that generates 277 horsepower/460 lb-ft of torque. All powertrains are connected to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and 4-wheel drive is available for all three engines (and standard on Z71 models). The 2024 Tahoe can tow between 7,600 and 8,400 pounds, depending on configuration. That max figure is attained with the 5.3-liter V8 and rear-wheel drive. The Ford Expedition is rated to tow up to 9,300 pounds, the Toyota Sequoia can lug up to 9,520 pounds, and the Jeep Wagoneer can pull up to 10,000.
The Chevrolet Tahoe has a new-vehicle warranty of three years/36,000 miles, while the powertrain is covered for five years/60,000 miles. These are typical for the segment.
This generation of the Chevrolet Tahoe received a mixed bag of scores ranging from Good to Poor on the four crash tests performed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). It has received a “4-Star” score (out of five) from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Chevy Safety Assist
This set of driver aids comes as standard in every new Tahoe SUV, bringing forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assistance/lane-departure warning, following distance indicator, and automatic high beams.
Driver Alert package
Chevrolet calls it Side Blind Zone Alert and Lane Change Alert, but most of us know it as blind-spot monitoring. Rear cross-traffic alert is also included. This package is optional in the LS, LT, RST, and Z71 variants, standard in the top two models. Those Premier and High Country trims are also eligible for reverse automatic braking.
Rear Camera Mirror
Sadly, this is available only in the Premier (optional) or High Country (standard) versions of the new Chevy Tahoe SUV. Because extra help with seeing out the back would be welcome in any version. This feature shows a rearward view unhindered by passengers’ heads, cargo, or rear pillars.
