Positive Review
My wife commutes w it to work 55mi. r/t. no problem and she can use the HOV lanes here in CA which makes her drive a complete, stress free jaunt. Acceleration is pretty crazy for this model. We find 0-60 in 5.6sec. Really gets us into speeding fwy traffic easily and out of dicey situations with immediate accel response. Handling is sporty and clean. We received excellent cash grants for ownership and a great tax break for the year. Using the PG&E EV residential electric rate plan we charge during off-peak periods and save huge on household energy costs. Range for us has been around 90mi. on a charge w 20kw battery. We typically operate around 4.5-5.0 miles/kw depending on how its driven.
Critical Review
I had recently purchased this vehicle, Chevrolet Spark EV 1Lt, and I was told it went up to 108 range. However, it only goes up to a 60 mile range and waste energy quickly. Not to mention, when the vehicle hits 3 miles, it no longer proceeds to continue driving. I would not recommend driving a 20 minute drive when driving this car!

Smooth driving
Low range

Super quick and nimble, great city commute range.
Cabin can be a bit noisy at freeway speeds.
I've driven this car for 5 years now and I can confidently say it is the best car I've ever owned. Very quick and so easy to handle in tight spots. The only thing that I've had to do maintenance wise is put new tires on it and change one tail light bulb. Not one thing has broken on the car. I have solar panels and a 240v charger so charging overnight is a breeze. Very comfortable seating for 4 people in a surpriselingly spacious interior for such a small car. Fold down the rear seats and there is lots of room for hauling things around. In the summer now I get 74 miles of range max - down from the 82 miles when it was new but that is not unexpected with an EV. If you're looking for an almost perfect car buy this one.
Acceleration, storage, wifi, very economical
Firm seats, vinyl interior on LT2
I needed a really economical car and did a lot of research. Nissan Leaf, Fiat 500e, Volkswagen eGolf, etc. Nissan was ok but uses its own Chaemo plug for charging and not a lot of infrastructure set up for it. Fiat is trendy and offers a lot of options that the Spark EV does not have like bumper sensors and such. eGolf was expensive and offers more room in the interior. I read a lot about the Spark EV and found that it offers 400 ft.lbs. of torque and found it to be quite intriguing. Never thought that I'd own a Chevrolet but this was actually built in Korea. Once I test drove it, I was sold. Burned rubber right off of the dealers lot! I drive a lot of miles to work and back everyday but still within the range of my Spark EV. Loads of fun driving around town and the acceleration is amazing. 0-60 in 6.5 seconds surprises a lot of cars on the road. There is no transmission lag as it is directly hooked up one speed from AC motor to batteries. By the time other cars are accelerating off the white crosswalk line at the intersection, I'm already 30 feet ahead of them! I purchased a 240v charger and downtime is kept to a minimum. Plenty of storage if you fold down the back seat. Fits in tight spots for easy parking. Wife recently said I was spending $360 month in gas for my Lexus. Bought this knowing we have solar panels, for $130/mo and it pays for itself. Now she wants to drive it everywhere we can go within range and she is SOLD on the Spark EV too! Buy it!
So economical, so fun and easy to drive, so nimble
Kind of spartan inside, but perfectly suitable
We leased a 2014 Spark EV for 3 years, and liked it so much we leased this 2016 car for 3 years, and then bought it after the lease. We have a bigger, luxurious SUV, but the three people in our family always choose the Spark EV first. It's so nimble, so quick, so smooth in acceleration and regenerative braking. It's just the best way to get around San Diego. (And no gas stations, almost zero maintenance, and super reliable!)
Fast*fun*low maintenance*DC charges in half hour
85 mile range
We had a 2014 Spark EV for three years, and now this 2016 for another three years. My wife and I compete to drive this car versus our larger car. It is practical, and very fun to drive. Small footprint, good use of space with its hatchback. Low center of gravity. Pennies per mile (zero for us, with solar at home). Fast & quiet. We'll be driving this one for many more years. Too bad Chevy is not producing them any more.
Cheapness of recharging, handling, and quiet.
Charging and tires skip if you accelerate too fast
I will never drive an internal combustion car again. This car is great in nearly every aspect. I have a few concerns: (1) charging time can be 6-7 hours on a level 2 charge, (2) if you are not charging at home, then the car will be as expensive as a gas vehicle, and (3) the torque from the internal motors are so high that the wheels will skid if you dont accelerate properly. With regard to the charging, the main problem is not the lack of infrastructure to charge the car, it is the other hybrids (with electric plugs) that will park to charge (even though these cars have a gasoline backup), they camp on electric vehicle spots. This will be an issue especially in California where I am. If you can get fast charging, then I would get this over any other option -- this is literally the most important option with an electric car. With this particular car, most of these vehicles DO NOT come with fast charge. All things aside, this is the best car I have ever owned - no oil changes and very few maintenance requests from the dealer. This is a great deal if you only commute less than 10 miles each way per day. From when I bought this car, the cars value actually increased in value from May 2017 to June 2018, probably from demand. As far as the internal interior, the sky blue interior is gross and the headend unit is antiquated; Chevys refusal to update to Android auto (even through the headend unit can handle it) sux. Overall, the display and headend unit do their job but who needs Sirius or Satellite radio for 15 bucks a month, really, and OnStar needs to seriously consider dropping their price for me to enroll.
I have a Spark 2014. I love this car, specially their computer system, nothing goes unnoticeable, the car will notify you of any discrepancy no matter how small it is. The gas is awesome too, 20 usd and that is it!! The only inconvenience I have is the commute, I luckily dont like more then 5 miles from work, however my family lives pretty far, and I find my self avoiding the ride because of the uphills, this car is very bad going uphill, because of its tiny motor, it looses power and struggles; if you live in a mountain area, or something, for sure your gas is all going out in a day. I drive 50 miles to see my mom, most of the ride is uphill, going there and back, thats all my gas. So please keep it in consideration. This is a great car for a college student, or a single person, or even a couple to live in town and have fun. Not for someone who needs to commute!!
Reliability and handling.
Exterior style. Slow charging. Bumper paint.
The Spark EV model, with a lot of battery weight under the floorboards, handles significantly better than the regular model. Unfortunately, the official write up at this site does not distinguish that adequately. I got the Spark EV after driving a Fiat 500E for a year and returning it under the lemon law. The Spark hasn't won any beauty contests, but the difference in reliablity, handling and back seat comfort strongly favors the Spark EV over the Fiat. I've had zero glitches with the Spark, and had many with the Fiat. Chevy has stopped production of the Spark EV in favor of the Bolt. I get 70 to 105 real world miles depending on weather and ratio of freeway speeds.
