===== 2004 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S: Polar Silver, 6-Speed Manual, Factory Sport Exhaust, Sport Techno Wheels ===== Some 996s make it clear why the market has finally come around. This *2004 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Coupe* is one of them. Finished in the uncommon and absolutely gorgeous *Polar Silver Metallic* over *Graphite Grey Full Leather*, this C4S combines the widebody 996 chassis with a *6-speed manual transmission, factory Sport Exhaust, 18-inch Sport Techno wheels, Xenon headlights, BOSE audio*, and a clean CARFAX history. Original MSRP was *$96,790*, a substantial figure for a 911 in 2004, and the specification still feels special more than two decades later. ==== The 996 Carrera 4S Is Having Its Moment ==== For years, the 996 was treated as the inexpensive way into a 911. That era is disappearing. Enthusiasts have increasingly recognized what these cars actually offer: *hydraulic steering, compact dimensions, naturally aspirated flat-six power, a traditional manual gearbox, and a driving experience with considerably less isolation than a modern 911*. Within the 996 lineup, the *Carrera 4S has emerged as one of the cars enthusiasts gravitate toward most strongly*. It is easy to understand why. The C4S takes the naturally aspirated Carrera formula and wraps it in the dramatically wider bodywork associated with the 996 Turbo. You get the wide rear quarters, aggressive stance, full-width rear reflector, Turbo-derived visual presence, all-wheel drive, and the analog character of Porsche's naturally aspirated 3.6-liter flat-six. It is one of the best-looking versions of the 996, period. ==== Polar Silver Makes This One Different ==== Then there is the color. *Polar Silver Metallic is not Arctic Silver.* It is a less commonly seen Porsche silver with a cooler, subtly blue character that changes considerably depending on the light. On the broad rear shoulders of a 996 Carrera 4S, it is spectacular. Silver already works exceptionally well on the 996 because it emphasizes the fenders, rear haunches, and continuous rear reflector. Polar Silver takes that a step further. Against the *Graphite Grey Full Leather interior*, the result feels distinctly early-2000s Porsche in the best possible way: understated, sophisticated, and different enough that enthusiasts will immediately notice it is not the usual silver-over-black combination. ==== Factory Sport Exhaust ==== This car was also ordered with one of the options we would specifically want on a C4S: *XLF, Sport Exhaust System.* The 3.6-liter naturally aspirated flat-six is already a major part of the 996 experience. Factory Sport Exhaust gives it considerably more personality and makes the upper end of the rev range that much more enjoyable. This is exactly the type of factory option that matters today. Not another convenience feature. Something that actually changes the driving experience. ==== 18-Inch Sport Techno Wheels ==== The factory *18-inch Sport Techno wheels* are another standout feature. They are period-correct, distinctly Porsche, and a much less generic choice than the wheels fitted to many C4S examples. Combined with the Polar Silver body, colored Porsche crest center caps, wide rear quarters, and factory Sport Exhaust, they give this car an unusually cohesive specification. ==== The Driving Experience ==== The reason people are rediscovering these cars becomes obvious once you drive one. The 996 C4S still feels relatively small from behind the wheel. The steering communicates. The controls feel mechanical. The naturally aspirated engine responds instantly, and the manual gearbox demands your involvement. There >
