Perfect Auto Collection Signature Listing 2023 BMW M8 Competition Convertible VIN WBSDZ0C0XPCM77958 | 20,282 miles Grey paint, black roof, and then it folds away and the whole thing turns orange. Why We Acquired This Vehicle The M8 Competition sits at the top of everything BMW M builds, and the Convertible is the version that makes the least sense on a specification sheet and the most sense on a road. Its 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 produces 617 horsepower and 553 lb-ft, M xDrive puts all of it down, and the whole thing reaches 60 mph in roughly three seconds - with nothing overhead. This example arrived with its factory build sheet, which records a total suggested price of $155,405 against a $143,700 base and shows exactly what was ordered rather than leaving it to be guessed. What that sheet describes is a car specified around being driven open - the seat and cabin heating, the flagship audio, and the neck-level warm-air system that only exists because BMW expected the roof to be down. It is finished in Brooklyn Grey Metallic with a black soft top over a Sakhir Orange and black interior, which is a far braver order than the dark-on-dark most of these received. Closed, it reads as a restrained grey coupe. Open, it is something else entirely. At 20,282 miles it has been driven as intended and looked after while being driven. The verified appointments are detailed in full below. The question we ask is whether the car makes its case on an ordinary week, and whether we would be proud to keep it in our own collection. This one was ordered by somebody who had thought it through. Open cars are usually bought for a handful of perfect days a year and then sit; this build is full of the equipment that extends that window - warmth at the neck and the hands, cooling for the seats, all-wheel drive, and even weather mats. The specification says plainly that the roof was meant to come down often, and the mileage suggests it did. Why Enthusiasts Value This Model The M8 is the most complete thing BMW M builds. Where a mid-engine rival asks its owner to accept compromises in exchange for pace, the M8 Competition delivers 617 horsepower through a chassis as composed on a highway as it is on a circuit, in a car with a usable trunk and a cabin built for hours rather than minutes. The Competition designation is not cosmetic: increased output over the standard M8, firmer engine mounts that tie the powertrain more directly to the chassis, and revised suspension and stability tuning. The Convertible adds the one thing the coupe cannot, which is unobstructed access to the sound of a twin-turbocharged V8 working directly behind an open cabin - and it gives up remarkably little to get there.
