HIGHS: All of the highs, none of the life-altering consequences. You see, friends, it all happened after 225 miles in a GT3. A mans will melts when faced with a naturally aspirated 500-hp 4.0-liter flat-six that burns its way to 9000 rpm. In our dual-clutch-automatic test car, the launch-control system bangs off consistent 3.0-second runs to 60 mph. The mighty six revs to 6600 rpm before launching. Release the brake, feel the clutch engage. Poof, you're in the next county. Stay in it and the quarter arrives in 11.1 seconds at 127 mph. Classic styling, incredible performance, unparalleled driving experience. After all these years, the 2018 Porsche 911 continues to set the benchmark for sports cars worldwide. Since its debut in 1963, the celebrated Porsche 911 has consistently pushed the boundaries of the sports-car universe. But instead of dramatically altering the cars styling, Porsche engineers have spent the past few decades perfecting every detail, making the 911 one of the most highly engineered road vehicles available. It's flat-six engine sings a siren song while quickly launching the 911 to illegal speeds. Sports-car manufacturers have spent years targeting the Porsche 911 for good reason: its one of the best. In this specialized segment of automotive manufacturing, everything boils down to the driving experience. This is where the Porsche 911 GT3 truly comes alive. So addictive is the acceleration experience that one wishes for nothing more than an abandoned airfield and a weeks vacation, that is until you try a corner or two. Its rare for us to be so completely enamored with a car. We consider the drawbacks, the inadequacies, and even the missed opportunities of each vehicles design. Something usually turns up, fatal flaw or lesser blunder but the Porsche 911 GT3 doesn't flinch. By all the measures that define a great sports car performance, usability, styling, and consistency, the GT3 is a cut above.
