Lemons laws vary by state and the majority of these vehicles are bought back in states that have very consumer friendly warranty laws & are guaranteed to be repaired by the manufacturer before being resold. What is a Manufacturer buyback?A manufacturer buyback is a vehicle repurchased by the manufacturer from a consumer due to a complaint, often related to a recall or warranty issue. It can occur if repairs take too long due to parts being unavailable or if problems persist after repairs. The manufacturer repairs the vehicle before reselling it, and the warranty remains in place. In some cases, customers pursue this route because they may receive more money than they would by trading it in.Regarding Carfax and the title, buyback vehicles are titled under the manufacturers name with a notation like Branded title: Manufacturer Buyback/Lemon. Companies like Carfax and AutoCheck that provide vehicle history reports will report this, but these vehicles are not classified as salvage or rebuilt. Most buybacks come from states with strong lemon laws, like California.
