The Cadillac Eldorado was one of General Motors' flagship luxury cars and had established itself as an icon of American personal luxury by the 1990 model year. The tenth-generation Eldorado was introduced for 1986 and featured a more streamlined design than its predecessors while retaining the model's emphasis on comfort and luxury. The Biarritz nameplate was used to denote an especially well-equipped Eldorado, carrying on a tradition that dated back decades within the Cadillac lineup. For 1990, the Eldorado combined Cadillac's refined styling with front-wheel drive, a fuel-injected V8, and an extensive selection of power-operated convenience features, making it a quintessential example of late-1980s and early-1990s American luxury.
