The 2026 Kia Sorento Hybrid is powered by a 227-horsepower hybrid turbo 4-cylinder engine matched with a 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD).
We’re impressed by the lively acceleration of the Sorento Hybrid, which is noticeably quicker than the non-hybrid with its base engine. We’ve found that it’s well-suited for running around town yet gets up to freeway speeds quickly enough. Even overtaking moves are carried out with hardly any effort.
The suspension, steering, and braking all contribute to a comfortable and competent driving experience. The Sorento Hybrid is so smooth and quiet, in fact, that we almost forgot it was a hybrid while we were testing it. The transition from electric power to the gasoline engine joining in is just seamless.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The Kia Sorento Hybrid gets up to 37 city/36 highway/37 combined mpg with front-wheel drive and 32 city/35 highway/34 combined mpg with all-wheel drive. These ratings are about the same as other hybrids in this class, like the Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid and Toyota Highlander Hybrid.
For reference, the non-hybrid Kia Sorento returns up to 23 city/31 highway/26 combined mpg. According to <a href="https://fueleconomy.gov/feg/make.shtml" target="_blank" rel="noopener">EPA</a> estimates, the fuel savings of the hybrid versus the non-hybrid amount to approximately $45/month.

The standard 12.3-inch display in the Sorento Hybrid is feature-rich and user-friendly. The SX Prestige takes the tech to the next level with a curved display, adding a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.
Smart Power Tailgate 
Imagine walking up to your locked Sorento Hybrid, hands full of shopping, kids, accordions, whatever. Stand by the smart tailgate for three seconds (while having the key in a pocket or purse) and it will open automatically, then close with the touch of a button. It’s a standard item and, again, we’re all for making life easier.
Smart Cruise Control 
More than just adaptive cruise control, machine learning means it can adapt to driving styles and emulate them. We’ve found it to feel quite natural.
Highway Driving Assist 2 
Installed in the SX Prestige trim, this helps alleviate the fatigue of long freeway stretches by keeping the Sorento Hybrid in its lane, maintaining a safe distance to the vehicle in front, and assisting with lane-changing maneuvers. Stay alert; you still have to keep a hand on the wheel and your eyes on the road.
Blind-Spot View Monitor 
This SX Prestige feature shows real-time video in the driver information display, with more detail than regular blind-spot monitoring can convey. In our opinion, greater awareness of surroundings can only be a good thing.

We like the Sorento Hybrid’s generally pleasant cabin, with its fine materials and well-placed controls. The simulated leather seating surfaces in the EX feel sufficiently premium. The higher SX Prestige trim brings genuine perforated leather.
The cabin&#8217;s centerpiece is a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. The SX Prestige gains a dual 12.3-inch setup in a single curved unit, the other screen serving as a digital instrument cluster. We&#8217;ve consistently praised Kia’s infotainment system for its quality graphics, modern features, and user-friendly controls, and the Sorento Hybrid’s screen is no exception.
A welcome update to the 2026 Kia Sorento is the introduction of a bench second-row seat, giving the standard configuration seven seats. Second-row captain’s chairs, which make the second row more comfortable and the third row easier to access, are optional on EX and standard on SX Prestige.
Passenger space is generous in the first two rows, with plenty of legroom and headroom. The third row is a kids-only zone, though, with just 29.6 inches of legroom. If you plan to use the third row on a regular basis, we highly recommend looking into the larger <a href="https://www.kbb.com/kia/telluride/">Kia Telluride</a> or the electric <a href="https://www.kbb.com/kia/ev9/">Kia EV9</a>.
Cargo space is tight when all three rows are in place &#8212; only 12.6 cubic feet behind the rearmost seats. This opens out to 38.5 cubic feet behind row two when they’re folded. With rows two and three down, there’s an ample 75.5 cubic feet. We should point out that the Toyota Highlander Hybrid is more capacious in all three respects. At least these dimensions are the same as the non-hybrid Sorento, so there’s no compromise here in choosing this more fuel-efficient model.

This goes through a 6-speed automatic transmission to either the front wheels — the standard configuration in the EX — or all four, which is optional with the EX or standard in the top SX Prestige trim.

The 2026 Volkswagen Jetta is powered by a 158-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder engine matched with an 8-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive (FWD). All-wheel drive (AWD) and hybrid powertrains are increasingly popular options in this class, but the Jetta is still front-wheel-drive-only with no hybrid option.
Thanks to ample torque at low rpm, the Jetta is noticeably quicker than most contemporaries, capable of dashing to 60 mph in about seven seconds. Once in motion, you’ll find the Jetta’s European roots make it one of the most enjoyable compacts in the class, bolstered by taut steering, adept cornering, and strong brakes. As a driver’s car, the Jetta checks all the right boxes, delivering a firm yet comfortable ride around town or the occasional trip further afield.
The value proposition of the Jetta has always been German driving dynamics at a more attainable price point than a luxury car, and this humble yet fun VW continues to uphold that reputation.

The Volkswagen Jetta returns 29 city/40 highway/33 combined mpg, which is good for a non-hybrid. Subtle Exterior

The Volkswagen Jetta has never been known for radical or daring style, and this remains the case with the 2026 model. Last year’s refresh helped to keep it fresh, but it retains a subtle and restrained style that we appreciate.

Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto 
A new perk for 2026 is standard wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay on every trim of the Jetta. This makes it effortless to connect your phone to the screen in the car.
15-watt wireless charging 
The Jetta used to have a 5-watt wireless charging pad, but it’s been upgraded to 15 watts for faster charging speeds without needing to plug in.
Digital Cockpit 
The lower four trims have an 8-inch instrument cluster, while the SEL model has a customizable 10.25-inch setup. From our perspective, both add the feeling of driving a more expensive sedan.
IQ.Drive 
This system includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assistance, emergency stop assistance (automatic transmission only), and adaptive cruise control.
Climatronic 
This is Volkswagen’s fancy name for dual-zone automatic climate control. It comes standard in every Jetta, which isn’t always the case for compact cars at this price point.
Volkswagen Premium Audio 
The available Volkswagen Premium Audio upgrade features eight speakers and is a significant upgrade over the standard four-speaker system. This rich sound system is standard on the SEL trim.

Sophisticated Interior

A distinctly European flavor distinguishes the Volkswagen Jetta from the competition. Its driver-focused cabin has supportive front seats, an 8-inch display angled toward the driver, and ergonomically friendly controls. However, we could do with more physical buttons, knobs, and switches rather than the sometimes-frustrating haptic controls for the HVAC. At least it has a volume knob, which not all VW models do.
Interior space is generous for a compact car. Rear passengers won’t complain; they have 37.4 inches of legroom, which is on the better side of this class. As for cargo space, the Jetta&#8217;s 14.1-cubic-foot trunk is on par with the segment.

The pleasure of driving a European automobile is often associated with pricey luxury cars, but the Volkswagen Jetta remains a delightfully accessible ticket into the world of German cars. The Jetta is priced competitively with the hot sellers in this class, but brings an air of class to the smartly designed and high-tech interior. Although its performance specs are par for the course on paper, its taut handling and lively acceleration make it a little more rewarding to drive than the average compact sedan. The 2026 Jetta’s standard engine is a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder unit making 158 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. An 8-speed automatic routes power to the front wheels. Although these numbers are about average for an affordable compact, the Jetta is pretty torquey low in the rev range, making it more fun to drive than its modest specs imply.
<h3>4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
Volkswagen’s basic and powertrain warranties last four years or 50,000 miles. That’s better than the typical 3-year/36,000-mile new-vehicle warranty but not as good as the more common 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain coverage. VW includes roadside assistance for three years or 36,000 miles, plus free scheduled maintenance for the first two years or 20,000 miles.
<h3>Safety</h3>
In crash testing conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NHTSA</a>), the Jetta scored a maximum 5-Star overall rating. The independent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>) attained similar results, awarding the Jetta the top mark of &#8220;Good&#8221; in the small overlap front crash test and &#8220;Acceptable&#8221; in the side crash test.

Following a refresh for 2025, Volkswagen is a little more generous with standard features in the 2026 Jetta. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are now standard on every trim, the SE model gets a standard sunroof, and the SEL trim has a standard 8-speaker premium audio system.

The 2026 Lexus NX remains a strong contender among compact luxury SUVs, blending comfort, efficiency, and Lexus’s hallmark reliability.

The NX is calm and composed, a welcome refuge from traffic chaos. If we were looking for a luxury compact SUV for long trips and stress-free commutes, the NX would be on our shortlist. We’d still like a bit more sound insulation, though.
The NX 350 and NX 350h are the most popular grade choices. The hybrid (NX 350h) makes 240 horsepower, while the NX 350 delivers 275 hp. For reference, the Genesis GV70 2.5T has 300 hp. The NX 350 hits 60 mph in 6.6 seconds, while the NX 350h takes 7.2. Neither is thrilling, but both feel quick enough in real-world driving.
The NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid is the powerhouse of the lineup, with 302 hp and the ability to cover most daily errands on electricity alone. If you live in hilly terrain, you’ll appreciate the extra muscle, and you won’t miss the discontinued NX 250’s modest 203 hp. The NX 450h+ does the zero-to-60-mph dash in 6.0 seconds, according to Lexus.
Fuel Economy
The NX 350 returns a manufacturer-estimated 24 mpg combined, solid for the class. The NX 350h hybrid impresses with a combined fuel economy of 40 mpg. The NX 450h+ PHEV offers 37 miles of electric-only range and 36 mpg combined once the battery depletes. Keep it charged overnight or at work, and you’ll run on electricity most of the time.

Bold Exterior

This generation of NX has been around since 2022, and its bold grille remains a Lexus signature. Love it or hate it, you’ve seen it before. Overall, Lexus plays it safe here in terms of incremental updates, but the NX still looks sharp.

Infotainment system 
Easy to use, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Wi-Fi, Amazon Music, and a natural-voice digital assistant. A 9.8-inch touchscreen is standard; a 14-inch upgrade is available.
Heated front seats 
Standard across the NX lineup, these are a very welcome feature on cold mornings.
All-wheel drive  
Providing added confidence in slippery conditions, all-wheel drive (AWD) is standard on all models except the NX 350h FWD. The newly available front-drive model expands affordability while preserving options for the rest of the lineup.
Advanced Park 
This optional feature makes light work of parallel and perpendicular parking.
Mark Levinson audio 
This optional 17-speaker, 1,800-watt system turns the NX into a rolling concert hall.
Digital rearview mirror 
Another optional feature we think is worth it for the clear, wide-angle view behind, free of obstructions.

Quality Interior

Inside, the NX sticks to what Lexus is best known for: quality materials, solid assembly, and plenty of standard features. The SUV format brings a higher driving position, and the front seats are especially comfortable. Storage is generous, and while rear legroom (36.1 inches) isn’t class-leading, it’s adequate. The Genesis GV70 offers about an inch more.
Cargo space is 22.7 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 46.9 cubic feet with them folded — and that’s true even for the NX 450h+ PHEV. Some rivals, like the GV70, offer more room, but the NX makes good use of its space.

The NX is a smart pick in a segment full of flashier options. It’s relatively affordable to own, treats its passengers well without going over the top, and carries the Lexus reputation for dependability. Add in a dealer network known for making ownership painless, and the NX makes a compelling case.

The previous base model, the NX 250, is gone for 2026, leaving the NX 350 as the entry point. The NX 350 packs a 2.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 275 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic. It’s the sweet spot for most buyers, delivering solid punch without punishing fuel economy.
The NX 350h hybrid combines a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder with electric motors that net 240 hp and stellar efficiency. Lexus says it gets up to 40 mpg combined in front-wheel-drive form. All-wheel drive is available for those who face slippery conditions, and the hybrid’s smooth, quiet character makes it a natural fit for city and suburban life.
At the top of the NX lineup, the NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid brings 302 hp and an EPA-estimated 37 miles of electric-only range. Keep it charged, and you’ll cover most daily driving without burning a drop of gas. Not every rival offers a hybrid, and even fewer have a PHEV option.
<h3>4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
Lexus backs the NX with a 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty and a 6-year/70,000-mile powertrain warranty. Hybrid components and batteries are covered for eight years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. The first scheduled service is complimentary, valid for up to one year or 10,000 miles.

The Lexus NX earned top marks for safety, including an <a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a> Top Safety Pick rating, for the 2025 model year. While 2026 crash test results haven’t been released, we expect similar results. Every NX comes with a robust suite of standard driver-assist features: forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and intersection assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure alert with steering assist, and lane-tracing assist to help keep you centered.

The NX lineup drops the NX 250, making the NX 350 the new entry point. The NX 350h hybrid also now offers a front-wheel-drive (FWD) option, getting an estimated 40 mpg combined. A new Premium trim joins the NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid range, lowering the cost of entry for plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) buyers. The F SPORT Handling package is now available across all powertrains, and new colors, such as Infrared and expanded Ultra White, add more visual flair. Although there are no changes under the hood, an aesthetic makeover, updated technology, and the return of the premium SL trim are enough to make the humble Sentra feel truly new. A few highlights of the redesign include a Google built-in infotainment system with a 12.3-inch display, the Nissan ProPilot Assist system, and some upscale options like quilted seating, a head-up display, and a wireless charging pad.

The spunky, wonderfully appointed 2026 Mazda CX-30 brings sports car-like performance to the subcompact SUV class.

The CX-30’s standard 2.5-liter engine is the most powerful base unit in the subcompact SUV class, generating 186 hp and enabling a standstill-to-60 mph dash in a relatively quick eight seconds. This is the more popular engine in the CX-30 lineup and the sensible choice for most buyers.
We’re convinced Mazda had Tennessee’s twisting Tail of the Dragon stretch of road in mind when it engineered this spirited little SUV. The same flow, feel, fun, and fleetness found in other Mazda vehicles are all here in the CX-30. We believe anything better than this probably has a BMW badge and a price to match. The steering is wonderfully responsive, and the suspension tuning is pitch-perfect. Granted, the suspension may feel somewhat stiff to more comfort-oriented drivers, but that’s a trade-off we would make for such handling dynamics.
The other engine on offer is a 250-hp turbocharged 4-cylinder unit. This intensifies the CX-30’s already enjoyable driving dynamics while hitting 60 mph in about six seconds. We think the base engine is quick enough, plus it&#8217;s more affordable and more efficient — but it’s good to have the choice.
Fuel Economy
We argue that the fuel economy of the CX-30’s base engine is perfectly acceptable, achieving 29 mpg in combined city/highway driving. That’s matched by the Kia Seltos (with all-wheel drive). They both outdo the all-wheel-drive Honda HR-V. The CX-30’s turbocharged engine manages a still-respectable 25 mpg combined.

Sporty Wrapper

We like that the CX-30 follows the same exterior design approach as the rest of the company’s SUVs. That’s fine by us. When a core design works this well, why change the classy lines, sleek surfaces, and elegant proportions?
Mazda did freshen the CX-30’s nose and added the new Aire Editions with blacked-out accents and wheels for 2026.

Ergonomics 
This relates to how all the controls connect with the driver, along with seats designed to optimize correct posture and combat fatigue. Mazda clearly put some of its finest minds to work in this area. There are details like the location of navigation information or an amber light indicating when the wipers are in their Auto setting. Yet they all merge into a general feeling of things being just right.
Driving dynamics 
In our opinion, this is the CX-30’s superpower, what makes it different from the humdrum competition. It’s responsive and enjoyable, especially when the turbo engine is in residence. The fun is accessible, yet the CX-30 remains a sensible SUV.
All-wheel drive 
Every CX-30 has all-wheel drive as standard. This transparent system can move power from axle to axle and wheel to wheel, optimizing traction. We find it reassuring and confidence-inspiring.
Driver aids 
Every CX-30 comes with a set of advanced safety and driver assistance technologies, such as automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, high-beam assist, and lane-keeping assistance.
Rain-sensing wipers 
Standard across the board, this system senses moisture on the windshield and automatically engages the wipers. The wiper speed adjusts in relation to the volume of rain.
Proximity Keyless Entry 
One of our must-have features is available in the Select Sport trim and above. It allows the doors to unlock automatically if the key fob is on your person. Push-button start is standard on all trim levels. We argue that once you’ve experienced this feature, you won’t want to be without it.

Upscale Cabin

The CX-30 provides <a href="https://www.kbb.com/comparison/lets-take-a-look-inside-the-mazda-cx-30/">one of the more high-end cabins</a> in its class. Our owner reviews praise the CX-30 for its quiet and comfortable cabin. Many mainstream manufacturers are upping their interior design game, making their cabins look good enough for a premium marque. Mazda has long been ahead of this particular curve.
High-quality materials are arranged expertly into a simple yet pleasing layout, topped off with a decent-sized 8.8-inch infotainment display — 10.25-inch touchscreen in upper trims. The top Premium Plus trim’s interior quality rivals some luxury SUVs.
The CX-30 is a subcompact SUV, so space is not exactly plentiful. But adults will enjoy more than sufficient room up front, and 36.3 inches of rear legroom is about average, although the Kia Seltos and Honda HR-V have more. Where the CX-30 does dip a bit below average is cargo capacity. The Seltos and HR-V have noticeably more luggage space than the CX-30’s 20.2 cubic feet with the rear seats in place. However, we do like that the CX-30 offers a powered tailgate.

The 2026 Mazda CX-30 continues to dominate its class in performance and driving dynamics. If how you get to a destination outweighs your need to take a lot of stuff with you, the CX-30 is the ticket. Retaining its quickness and legendary athleticism for 2026, it still punches up with a thoughtfully styled, meticulously constructed, and beautifully finished interior. Oh, and we’ve always applauded its elegant exterior styling, too.

The base (and most popular) engine of the CX-30 lineup is a naturally aspirated (not turbocharged) 2.5-liter 4-cylinder unit developing 186 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque. This goes to all four wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The higher-performance alternative adds a turbocharger to create 250 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque with premium gasoline. Save a few pennies per gallon at the pump using regular fuel, and those numbers dip to 227 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque — still a healthy amount of muscle for a subcompact SUV.
3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty
Mazda’s new-vehicle warranty lasts three years or 36,000 miles, whichever happens first. Powertrains are covered for five years or 60,000 miles. This is all typical for mainstream manufacturers.
Safety Ratings
The CX-30 has received the highest accolade of Top Safety Pick+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>), while the 2025 model achieved the maximum 5-Star overall score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NHTSA</a>). Standard safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control.

What's new for 2026

The biggest news is the addition of two Aire Editions: one each for the non-turbo and turbo lineups. Aire is a cosmetic appearance package, adding black wheels, badging, nameplate, roof rails, and outboard mirrors on the exterior. Inside are lighter colors and white faux-leather seats with gray cloth inserts for the non-turbo Aire, and gray faux-suede inserts for the Aire Turbo. While adding the Aire trims, <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mazda/">Mazda</a> deleted the 2.5 Carbon Turbo grade.
All CX-30 models get a new brake Limited Slip Differential that is said to improve traction and stability. Beginning with the Preferred grade, a 10.5-inch touchscreen replaces the standard 8.8-inch display in the S and S Select Sport. Meanwhile, models with the non-turbo engine make six horsepower less (186 hp) than last year&#8217;s 191 hp.
