If a Maybach SL owner is the lucky recipient of a trust fund, well here’s the thrust fund. This SL 680 enjoys a forceful 577-horsepower V8 humming away under the hood and it’s capable of accelerating from standstill to 60 mph in an estimated four seconds flat. That’s only half a second slower than the high-performance AMG SL 63, which has the same engine and is around 400 pounds lighter. The Bentley Continental GTC is faster by almost a second, but it does have 771 hp on its team. The 416-hp Lexus LC 500 Convertible does the dash in a more-than-respectable 4.6 seconds. Think of the Maybach SL as a grand tourer and the AMG SL as the more sporty iteration.
Because this is the poshest SL there’s ever been, standard features also include an adaptive suspension with active hydraulic body roll stabilization, as well as rear-wheel steering to enhance agility and maneuverability. Driving modes are Comfort, Maybach, Sport, and Individual (a slot for drivers to make their own combination of steering, throttle, transmission, and suspension settings).
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
We’ll update this section when official information comes through, not that this will be a big issue for a Maybach SL owner. For a ballpark figure, the SL 63 achieves 16 mpg in combined city/highway driving. To compare, the LC 500 returns 18 mpg combined.

Red or white paint &#8212; those are the standard, no-cost choices. With a black roof. Plus a black hood with the option of multiple Maybach badges &#8212; the marque’s equivalent of a Louis Vuitton design. But add $9,900 to the budget, and it opens the door to dozens of Mercedes&#8217; exclusive Manufaktur colors in a wide variety of hues. A Maybach grille treatment and substantial 21-inch alloy wheels are standard. Speaking of wheels, we like the multi-spoke design in particular &#8212; they’re a $5,000 option, but what buyer is going to balk at that?

Favorite Features

Massaging seats 
If you can’t be cosseted in a Maybach, even if it’s a 2-seater, then what’s the point? These are also heated and ventilated, and come with more cushioning than their AMG counterparts (which we’ve found to be extremely comfortable). The steering wheel is heated as well.
Burmester audio 
We’re huge fans of this setup, having experienced it in other Mercedes-Benz vehicles. A 17-speaker/1,220-watt surround-sound system is standard in the Maybach SL.
Airscarf 
A Mercedes-Benz innovation that has blessed several of its soft-top cars over the years. This standard feature in the Maybach SL emits warm air from vents in the seats near your neck. We like how you could still have the roof down on those crisp, clear winter days.
Magic Vision Control 
Admittedly, this sounds a lot more impressive than it really is, but we still like how the windshield washer fluid comes out of the wipers instead of just spraying everywhere from a set of jets. This is another Mercedes-Benz innovation.
Powered roof 
With three layers to keep the cabin suitably hushed and insulated, the roof will deploy at speeds of up to 37 mph and take about 15 seconds to complete its operation.
Biometric authentication 
Using a fingerprint sensor, the Maybach SL can recognize various drivers and load pre-saved settings like a favorite radio station. It will even recognize voices.

White Space

Interior

Every Maybach SL interior is adorned in white Nappa leather (having been tanned using a sustainable process). There are plenty of Maybach emblems embossed into various surfaces, along with model-specific stitching patterns, while the seats are emblazoned with the word Maybach in upper-case letters. Unlike the AMG SL, there are no rear seats here, but a storage shelf instead.
Like the AMG SL, this model has an 11.9-inch infotainment touchscreen with excellent graphics and user-friendly features, while the angle of the screen is adjustable to reduce glare.
Cargo space is probably more of an afterthought than a priority, but here’s the gist. With the roof up, it measures 8.5 cubic feet. Subtract a cubic foot with the roof down.

The full name is the Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series. There’s only one model in this so-called series, but it is pretty darn fabulous.
Whenever the Maybach name is involved, that means a <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mercedes-benz/">Mercedes-Benz</a> vehicle taken to the company’s uppermost level of luxuriousness, complemented by special exterior styling details.
However, whereas the other Maybach models (the S-Class flagship sedan and GLS SUV) imply being driven around by a chauffeur, the SL is a 2-seater with a retractable soft-top. Sitting next to a chauffeur in this car would feel a bit awkward, unless you were Lady Chatterley.

The grand old AMG tradition of hand-assembled engines by a single technician continues in the Maybach SL. The car is propelled by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 developing an authoritative 577 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. This goes to a fully variable all-wheel-drive system through a 9-speed automatic transmission.

<h3>4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
The new-vehicle warranty offered by Mercedes-Benz lasts four years or 50,000 miles, whichever happens first. This applies to the drivetrain as well. Most European luxury car companies have these same terms. Mercedes-Benz doesn’t offer any free scheduled maintenance.
<h3>Safety</h3>
High-end cars like the SL aren’t usually crash-tested outside of their manufacturer’s own development programs. However, the Maybach SL comes with a plethora of standard safety features such as automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, a 360-degree camera system, parking assistance, adaptive front lighting, and rollover protection. Virtually every Mercedes-Benz advanced safety feature is included.

This is an all-new version of the SL roadster. The other side of this golden coin is the much sportier Mercedes-AMG SL. The Maybach treatment goes in an altogether more opulent direction. Oddly, there’s no regular variant of the SL, one of the most archetypal Mercedes-Benz cars that has been around in some form or another since life was in black-and-white (the first one debuted in 1954).

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLE brings luxury and tech in both coupe and soft-top forms.

The 255-horsepower CLE 300 4Matic has plenty of muscle for most situations on public roads. You know, how normal people drive. We also found it agile and easy in that usual, pleasurable, imperturbable Mercedes-Benz way. Sport mode makes the steering a little firmer and the engine a touch more responsive to throttle inputs. That’s fun. The dash from a standstill to 60 mph happens in a respectable 6.2 seconds — almost a second slower than the BMW 430i xDrive Coupe, but the CLE 300 is more about serenity than alacrity. For a faster sprint, the CLE 450 4Matic gathers its 375 hp to stop the clock at 4.2 seconds.
The new Engineering package this year brings an adaptive suspension and rear-wheel steering. The former can create a sportier setting while also offering comfort, while the latter enhances maneuverability and agility. This bundle might be better suited to variants with more power, but still worth test-driving if possible.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The CLE 300 4Matic Coupe achieves 27 mpg in combined city/highway driving. To compare, a BMW 430i xDrive Coupe gets 30 mpg combined. The CLE 300 Cabriolet manages 26 mpg combined. As does the CLE 450 4Matic, regardless of body style. We’d say that’s not much of a penalty given the difference in power.

Two Elegant Body Styles

Based on the current C-Class platform, but about half an inch longer than the erstwhile E-Class coupe, the CLE straddles the line between compact and midsize. The 2026 CLE is available as either a fixed-roof coupe or a cabriolet (4-seater convertible) model with a power-folding fabric roof.
The riskiest aspect of the styling is how traditional it seems. That’s fine with us, though. The CLE has a typical Mercedes-Benz elegance, and we think all the proportions are judged well. We also love the multi-spoke alloy wheels.

Artificial Intelligence 
The CLE’s infotainment system (also found in the latest E-Class) can recognize and learn behavior patterns. For example, it can suggest a navigation destination that’s visited regularly or make a phone call that’s usually done at a particular time. It can even go beyond this to create a cold-weather setting (activating the heated front seats when the outside temperature falls below a certain point) or a date night ambience — playing romantic music and selecting rose-colored cabin lighting.
Burmester audio 
Often on the options lists of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, a 710-watt, 17-speaker Burmester surround-sound system is standard in the CLE. To make it especially immersive, there are speakers set into the headrest of the driver’s seat. Dolby Atmos — which really enriches the sound — is also part of the setup. We think that once you’ve heard this in all its glory, you’ll be disappointed by virtually everything else.
Just talk 
Technology develops so quickly. A couple of years ago, just saying “Hey Mercedes” to prompt the digital assistant felt futuristic. Now the system in the CLE knows when there’s a solo driver and is always listening out for instructions. So there’s no need to begin commands with those two words if you’re by yourself.
Apps 
Mercedes-Benz calls the CLE the most intelligent 2-door car to wear its famous star badge. This aptitude includes the ability to download third-party apps like Zoom, TikTok, and the Angry Birds video game — that’s intelligent, right?
Driver Assistance 
This optional bundle helps with things like busy intersections and evasive steering, while moving the front seats closer to the center if a side impact is about to happen. We think this would be a good addition.
Active Parking Assist 
The newest Mercedes-Benz self-parking function performs its tasks more quickly than past iterations.

High-Class Interior

One aspect of the latest C-Class that has migrated into the CLE is the overall cabin design. There’s the same large (11.9-inch) center touchscreen oriented vertically and angled slightly toward the driver, along with a trio of air vents just above it. The driver has a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, and gets to really enjoy the standard surround-sound system because that seat has speakers in its headrest.
We’ve always liked the extending arms in Mercedes-Benz coupes that bring the seat belt into a more reachable position. They’re present and correct in the CLE. There’s plenty of room up front, with comfortable and well-shaped seats. And we appreciate how the CLE even provides soft places for our elbows to land. Naturally, the cabin materials are high-quality, although we can predict that the piano black on the center console of our test car will eventually look less classy with fingermarks and scratches. Choose another option if possible, like the new-for-2026 Black Fine Structure Center Console (see our What’s New section above).
We’ve found outward vision in the coupe to be quite acceptable, although we’re pleased that blind-spot monitoring and parking sensors are standard. We won’t gripe about tight rear legroom, since adults are unlikely to be sitting in the back regularly. Most of the time, that part of the car will be where bags and jackets are kept. The coupe’s 11.2 cubic feet of trunk space is kind of cozy, but fold down the back seats and there’s room for a couple of golf bags. The CLE Cabriolet’s trunk area measures 9.6 cubic feet.
Speaking of the cabriolet, its optional leather upholstery has a special coating to stay cooler in direct sunlight than the regular stuff. We also like how this car’s infotainment touchscreen can tilt to help reduce reflections. And how the neck-warming Airscarf feature is standard, enabling top-down driving during clear winter weather.

It’s OK to wonder what the CLE is exactly. After all, this is only the car’s third model year, and with everything else going on in the world, you might not have had time to keep current with everything produced by <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mercedes-benz/">Mercedes-Benz</a>. You might also have dreamed about owning a C-Class or E-Class coupe or convertible and wondered why they’re no longer around. Here’s your new dream car.
It fills the gap in the Mercedes-Benz portfolio left by the erstwhile C-Class and E-Class coupes and cabriolets (cabriolet is another word for a car with a soft-top, like a convertible). Wearing that famed 3-pointed star does tell us a lot, though. For example, the ride quality is suitably luxurious, while the tech is about as fresh as it gets, including many advanced safety features. The CLE is an elegant car capable of insulating its occupants or inviting them to enjoy the fresh air of a coastal road or a clear, starlit night. Not many cars could be described as romantic, but the CLE should surely be one of them.
We’ve logged hundreds of hours driving and evaluating this generation of luxury coupes and <a href="https://www.kbb.com/cars/best-luxury-convertibles/">convertibles</a>, including the Mercedes-Benz CLE.

We recommend the popular CLE 300 4Matic and buyers can make up their own minds whether they want a metal roof or not. Our reasoning is that this model has sufficient power and equipment, while looking just as elegant as more expensive variants.
The closest rival is the compact <a href="https://www.kbb.com/bmw/4-series/">BMW 4 Series</a>, whose all-wheel-drive 430i xDrive Coupe comes in below its CLE counterpart. It’s the same story with 4 Series Convertible contenders.
Before buying a new Mercedes-Benz CLE, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to know what you should be paying. Most people in the market for luxury coupes and convertibles probably don’t have resale values high on their list of priorities. However, the more specialized Mercedes-Benz models tend to fare quite well. Recouping more money when selling a vehicle can mean a bigger down payment and lower monthly payments on the next one.

Both engines in this 2026 CLE lineup have a mild hybrid arrangement where an electric motor provides a quick boost of 23 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque to help reach peak output quickly and efficiently. It also smooths out the fuel-saving, emissions-reducing, engine stop/restart function.
The CLE 300&#8217;s engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder unit that makes 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. The CLE 450 has a 3.0-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder engine that generates a punchy 375 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque.
A sweet-shifting 9-speed automatic transmission is standard, along with all-wheel drive (known as 4Matic).

An optional Black Fine Structure Center Console replaces the standard piano black with a kind of satin finish, and should be more scratch-resistant. Mercedes-Benz also adds an Engineering package to the CLE’s options list, consisting of an adaptive suspension and rear-wheel steering.

Power, Ride and Handling

Mercedes-Benz knows exactly what works in this sector. The 2026 E 350 drivetrain makes 255 horsepower, the same output as the BMW 530i. Not the most muscular in the class (the Genesis G80 starts out with 300 hp), but we wouldn’t say either model was underpowered. Both E 350 cars accelerate from standstill to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds, close enough to rivals for any tenths of a second either way not to matter much.
The E 450 4Matic enjoys 375 hp. Funnily enough, the same as the BMW 540i. And close enough to the rest of the contenders. The sprint to 60 mph is a sweetly quick 4.4 seconds, a whisker brisker than most.
An adaptive air suspension — for a spectrum of settings from comfort to sport — is optional in all three 2026 E-Class sedan variants (standard in the All Terrain wagon). We’ve tried this suspension and found that every bump is neutralized, even with 20-inch wheels. It delivers that smooth ride quality for which Mercedes-Benz is renowned. It also keeps body roll in check going through the turns. We’re sure the standard setup won’t disappoint either.
Whenever we wanted to get more involved, we’d just switch the car into Sport mode. Or we could click it into Comfort mode for a relaxed trip home. The differences are clearly perceptible. This package also includes rear-wheel steering that enhances both agility and maneuverability. We love this setup &#8212; it works exceptionally well, and the car seems to pour itself around corners. Overall, we find the E-Class easy to drive and wonderfully quiet.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
Pretty good on gas. That’s our verdict on the E-Class. The E 350 4Matic achieves 27 mpg in combined city/highway driving, while the E 450 4Matic runs to 25 mpg combined (in sedan and All Terrain wagon form) — both figures are perfectly bearable and compare well against most of the competition. The BMW 5 Series does better, providing another three miles of travel for each gallon used.

Two Body Styles

In terms of aerodynamics, the E-Class is pretty much as efficient as a Toyota Prius. As far as design goes, this latest generation definitely has its own look, just as other versions have. And it works for us. One nice detail is that the LED taillights have 3-pointed star designs set into them.
As well as the E-Class sedan, the All-Terrain model is an E-Class wagon with a raised ride height and a little SUV attitude.

Infotainment system 
The Mercedes-Benz User Experience, or MBUX, offers a huge Superscreen across the dash. Augmented reality for the navigation system is standard. Voice recognition tech has progressed to where it can take two orders at a time, like “turn on the heated seats and raise the cabin temperature by five degrees.”

As well as phone integration for Apple and Android devices, the MBUX system in the E-Class also offers Zoom video conferencing (while stationary), the Webex online collaboration app, TikTok, and the Vivaldi web browser. We have to admit, our immediate reaction when learning that the E-Class also offers the Angry Birds video game was: “Has Mercedes-Benz never heard of Roblox?” But that feathered franchise is still going strong. We checked.
Burmester audio 
Part of the Pinnacle trim, this is an excellent 17-speaker/750-watt surround-sound system. There are speakers in the driver’s headrest and in the ceiling. Dolby Atmos is also part of the package, bringing phenomenal clarity and a wonderfully immersive listening experience. After spending some time with this setup, we usually don’t want to listen to anything else.
Active Parking Assist 
This standard feature is accessed in an intuitive manner using the touchscreen. Its speed is 2.5 mph, so it can execute self-parking maneuvers a little faster than the previous generation.
Artificial intelligence 
It’s all about routines &#8212; getting into the car in the morning and tuning to a news station, calling the same person on the drive home on Friday, etc. These kinds of things are learned by the optional artificial intelligence system in the E-Class. However, users can set up their own routines as well.
Energizing Comfort 
This is an optional program of soothing lights and sounds with seat massaging functions.

Tech-Rich Interior

Mercedes-Benz offers the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/archive/mercedes-unveils-cabin-spanning-hyperscreen/">Hyperscreen</a> with its electric vehicles. A variation is available in the E-Class, known as the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/car-news/2024-mercedes-benz-e-class-interior-angry-birds-tik-tok-zoom-and-more/">Superscreen</a>. Taking up most of the center console (the driver has a separate 12-inch information display), this infotainment touchscreen offers an extra optional display for front passengers. Cameras watch the driver’s eyes to see if they stray from the road ahead, and the system can make that screen visible only to the front passenger.
A couple of our reviewers thought all this was approaching screen overkill. Perhaps this feeling might fade with greater familiarity. The cabin also offers an ambient lighting system that responds to the music being played. Upbeat stuff results in pulsating light patterns, while soothing sounds are matched with gentle transitions.
The E-Class is close to the roomy BMW 5 Series in terms of occupant area. We’ve sat in the rear seats and found there’s enough space for 6-footers. In the driver’s seat, we’ve enjoyed how comfortable and well-shaped it is, the range of adjustment, soft touch points (and their ideal placement) under our elbows, and how outward vision is excellent.
Naturally, the materials and build quality in the E-Class are all at the usual high Mercedes-Benz levels. We’re impressed by the classy feel and action of the switchgear. We also like the open-pore wood in the center console instead of the ubiquitous piano black. A first in an E-Class, Mercedes-Benz is using recycled materials for the seats’ foam cushioning.
Trunk space of 19.1 cubic feet is one of the largest in this sector. The E-Class All-Terrain wagon has a luggage area of 33.1 cubic feet behind its rear seats. Fold those down for a maximum of 64.6 cubic feet.

This sector of the automotive world is hardly overpopulated, yet the competition remains intense. Lucky us, the car-buying public, because the result is a selection of absolutely superb machines.
If we had the budget, though, we would probably head straight to a <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mercedes-benz/">Mercedes-Benz</a> dealership and drive away with a new E-Class. As good as those rivals are, we’ve been so impressed by the E-Class and its combination of qualities.
It’s comfortable yet wonderfully composed, offers great tech, and exhibits an intense attention to detail. Even things like the feel of the switches signify the substance that permeates throughout the entire car. Now in only its third model year, this generation of E-Class retains the many and varied talents that make it such a first-rate choice.

So far, the E 350 4Matic has proved most popular, and we’re happy to recommend it. It’s fairly muscular and comes with a lot of equipment.
Out of its rivals, the new-for-2026 <a href="https://www.kbb.com/audi/a6/">Audi A6</a> is in a similar financial ballpark, while the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/bmw/5-series/">BMW 5 Series</a> and <a href="https://www.kbb.com/genesis/g80/">Genesis G80</a> start slightly lower. The also-new-for-2026 <a href="https://www.kbb.com/lexus/es/">Lexus ES</a> is considerably more affordable than anything else in this class.

Resale values-wise, there isn’t much difference between any of these contenders, apart from the Lexus ES having the edge. Recouping more money when selling a vehicle can mean a bigger down payment and lower monthly payments on the next one.

A quick word about the mild hybrid system and its Integrated Starter Generator (ISG). Basically, this means a smooth engine stop/restart action when idling in traffic. And since the ISG is an electric motor, it helps the engine reach its peak a little quicker and more efficiently. The driver doesn’t have to do anything more than usual. Both engines in the E-Class employ this mild hybrid setup.
The E 350 drivetrain has a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine making 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. The entry-level E 350 comes with a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) configuration, while the E 350 4Matic has all-wheel drive.
The E 450 4Matic uses a 3.0-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder engine, putting out 375 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque going to all four wheels as standard.
A slick-shifting 9-speed automatic transmission is in every E-Class.

<h3>4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
The new-vehicle warranty offered by Mercedes-Benz lasts four years or 50,000 miles, whichever happens first. This covers the drivetrain as well. Many luxury car companies have the same terms. Mercedes-Benz doesn’t offer any free scheduled maintenance.
<h3>Safety Ratings</h3>
This latest generation of E-Class was named a 2024 Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/ratings/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>), the agency’s second-highest accolade. It also took a maximum overall score of five stars from a European safety program: Euro NCAP.

The GMC Yukon XL full-size SUV is a spacious family-hauling rig that’s both rugged and luxurious.

The 2026 GMC Yukon XL is powered by a 355-horsepower V8 engine matched with a 10-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive (RWD) or 4-wheel drive (4WD). This aging engine isn’t as powerful as the turbo 6-cylinder engines in its Ford and Jeep rivals, but it still has plenty of thrust, and it’s adequate for daily family-hauling duties.
Drivers seeking more muscle for towing regularly or just because they want more oomph will be interested in the bigger 6.2-liter V8 producing 420 hp or the Duramax turbodiesel 6-cylinder pumping out 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque. We know most of you will go for a V8, but we’re partial to the diesel, which has both the highest torque rating and best fuel economy in the Yukon XL’s engine lineup. GMC and Chevy are the only brands that offer a diesel in this class.
One of the reasons families love the GMC Yukon XL is its ride quality on long highway trips. The long wheelbase and compliant suspension (especially with the optional Magnetic Ride Control system) create a truly premium feel for the driver and passengers alike. The available Super Cruise hands-free highway driving system makes the Yukon XL an even better road tripper.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The standard V8 in the Yukon XL returns 15 city/20 highway/17 combined mpg. The bigger 6.2-liter V8 is almost equally efficient, but requires premium gas, yielding much higher fuel cost estimates. Meanwhile, the only diesel in this class gives the Yukon XL up to 21 city/26 highway/23 combined mpg. That’s a slightly better combined fuel economy rating than the hybrid <a href="https://www.kbb.com/toyota/sequoia/">Toyota Sequoia</a>.
The turbocharged 6-cylinder engines in the Ford Expedition MAX and Jeep Wagoneer L – neither of which requires premium gas — are both more efficient than the V8s in the Yukon XL.

Huge Exterior

At 18.8 feet long, the Yukon XL full-size SUV takes up the same kind of space as the Ford Expedition MAX. It’s big. But we think big is beautiful in this instance. The Yukon XL got a midcycle refresh last year that included a revised front end and available 24-inch wheels. It helped keep this SUV looking fresh and modern.

Google built-in 
The Yukon XL’s 16.8-inch central infotainment display is home to a Google built-in interface that’s feature-rich and user-friendly. It’s pre-loaded with our favorite Google apps like Google Maps and Google Assistant. Plus, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay are standard.
Air ride adaptive suspension 
The perfect addition to one of the more luxurious Yukon XL trims. As well as the enhanced comfort, it has adjustable heights for easy entries and exits and for instances like increasing ground clearance over tricky terrain.
Super Cruise 
General Motors’ hands-free adaptive cruise control now works on more than 400,000 miles of roads in North America. We’ve used this a lot in Cadillacs, and it’s now available in GMC and Chevy vehicles. It’s one of our favorite systems of its kind.
ProGrade trailering system 
Plenty of Yukon XL owners will be happy to get some really useful help from this optional feature when they hitch up a trailer and go to the lake or wherever. It includes trailer-specific blind-spot monitoring.
Rugged AT4 models 
The AT4 trim of the Yukon XL brings a stylish and functional appearance package plus Magnetic Ride Control and off-road tires, while the AT4 Ultimate is both rugged and luxurious with Air Ride Adaptive Suspension, Super Cruise, massaging seats, full-grain leather seats, and Bose 18-speaker audio.
Luxurious Denali models 
Denali has long represented luxury in the GMC brand, and the Yukon XL Denali lives up to its reputation with a power-sliding center console, a head-up display, and heated/ventilated leather seats. Meanwhile, Denali Ultimate is even fancier, with Air Ride Adaptive Suspension, Super Cruise, 24-inch wheels, and full-grain leather seats.

Massive Interior

If you’re shopping for a full-size SUV, space is probably important to you, so let’s start there. The GMC Yukon XL boasts 42 inches of second-row legroom and 36.7 inches of third-row legroom. That leaves more than enough room for average-sized adults in all three rows.
Second- and third-row legroom in the Yukon XL are about the same as the Ford Expedition MAX and Jeep Wagoneer L, but cargo space is a strength for the GMC. The Yukon XL has 41.5 cubic feet of cargo room behind the third row (more than the Ford, slightly less than the Jeep) and class-leading maximum cargo capacity of 144.7 cubic feet.
The centerpiece of the Yukon XL’s interior is a 16.8-inch infotainment display with Google built-in. Speaking of screens, an 8-inch climate control screen in the second row is also available. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay come standard, and a few desirable interior options include Bose 22-speaker audio, a power-sliding center console, a head-up display, and Woodland Mahogany full-grain leather upholstery.
The Yukon XL’s Executive Seating package gives the second row first-class accommodations with heated, cooled, and massaging seats, a rear entertainment system with two screens, and a center console with wireless charging. This is a package you can’t get in the more mainstream Chevy Suburban.
The big screen and fancy seats are terrific, but last year’s interior update we’re most excited about is the shifter’s relocation away from the awkward button layout in earlier versions of the Yukon XL. This SUV is now shifted via a more user-friendly stalk on the steering column.

If size, space, and capability are on your list of priorities for your next family hauler, then the GMC Yukon XL deserves your consideration. As the biggest SUV in the GMC lineup, the Yukon XL has a massive 3-row interior with spacious seating, class-leading cargo space, and premium options. It also has the latest in optional tech features, including the ProGrade trailering system and the Super Cruise hands-free driving feature. While turbocharged 6-cylinder engines begin to dominate this class, the Yukon XL still offers two good old-fashioned V8 options and a class-exclusive diesel. Engine and Transmission

The base engine for the 2026 GMC Yukon XL remains the 5.3-liter V8, making 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. Higher trims offer the option of a 6.2-liter V8 developing 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. The other alternative — and a rarity for the class — is a turbocharged 3.0-liter diesel inline-6, which delivers 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque. We’re happy to report that the diesel is available in every trim of the Yukon XL.
A 10-speed automatic transmission is employed throughout. Rear-wheel drive is standard; 4-wheel drive is optional, or standard with the AT4, AT4 Ultimate, and Denali Ultimate. The maximum towing figure is 8,400 pounds, achieved by a rear-drive model with the 5.3-liter V8. If this is important, the Jeep Wagoneer L can tow up to 10,000 pounds, while both the Ford Expedition and Toyota Sequoia go past the 9,000-pound mark.
<h3>3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
GMC’s new vehicle warranty lasts three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. Powertrains are covered for five years or 60,000 miles. These terms are typical among mainstream manufacturers. The first scheduled service is also included.
<h3>Safety Ratings</h3>
This generation of Yukon XL has earned the top 5-Star overall rating in crash testing carried out by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NHTSA</a>). Standard safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, Blind Zone Steering Assist, and more.

The 2026 Hyundai Tucson Plug-in touts ample tech, power, and the ability to commute on electricity alone.

The Tucson Plug-in Hybrid enjoys 261 horsepower from its gasoline/electric drivetrain, making it the most muscular Tucson. If this model might seem a little pricey, the Tucson Hybrid (without the plug-in capability and subsequent all-electric driving range) has 37 hp less but the same torque: 271 lb-ft. That would make it similarly swift when accelerating away from a standstill.
Either of these two SUVs would be a great choice. However, the special thing about the Tucson PHEV is its ability to travel over 30 miles on battery power alone. So, with regular at-home or on-the-go charging, you can substantially cut down gas station visits and fuel costs.
The Tucson Plug-in Hybrid can be lively from when the light turns green to overtaking on the freeway. During our stints in the driver’s seat, we’ve been pleased with the Tucson Plug-in Hybrid’s smooth ride quality, composure through the corners, and the relatively quiet cabin. We’d be more than willing to take a Tucson Plug-in Hybrid for a long trip. The standard all-wheel-drive system can adjust how much power goes to each wheel, bringing an extra degree of stability and effectiveness to the plug-in Tucson’s cornering abilities.
If you’re a new parent, here’s another perk: The Tucson Plug-in Hybrid has a Baby Mode. It’s a driving mode that smooths acceleration so as not to unsettle the little bundles of joy snoozing in the back.
Fuel Economy
This aspect is where the Tucson Plug-in Hybrid pulls away from its brethren. It can run for 32 miles on battery power alone. After that, when operating as a regular hybrid, it achieves 35 mpg in combined city/highway driving — a 2-mpg deficit against the Tucson Hybrid.
The Kia Sportage Plug-in Hybrid shares a drivetrain with this Hyundai and therefore performs similarly. Toyota says the new 2026 RAV4 Plug-in will travel up to 50 miles on battery power alone, while packing 320 hp.

Stylish Exterior

Our eyes like the look of the Tucson lineup in general. It’s stylish without being over the top. You can tell a Tucson at night quite easily thanks to the multiple lights housed in the front grille. The top Limited model gets premium LED daytime running lights up front and LED tail lights in back.
Tucson Plug-in Hybrid SEL models roll on 18-inch wheels, while the Limited has 19-inch wheels. More practically, a hands-free power tailgate is standard.

Look, ma: No cables! 
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard in the Hyundai Tucson Plug-in Hybrid, a convenience we always appreciate. Furthermore, Limited trims have a wireless charging pad to juice your phone on the go.
Highway Driving Assist 
We’re always impressed by how well Hyundai’s driver assistance features work (as well as those from brand cousins Kia and Genesis). Many of our owner reviews say the same thing. We’ve found vehicles equipped as such can shoulder much of the driving for long highway stretches with just a light but attentive hand on the wheel.
Warm and cozy 
In addition to standard heated front seats, the 2026 Hyundai Tucson Plug-in Hybrid Limited has a heated steering wheel, plus heated rear seats.
Head-up display 
The Limited trim includes a 12-inch color head-up display. This unit projects vital info onto the windshield, allowing drivers to keep their eyes on the road.
Blind-Spot View Monitor 
This innovative system displays real-time video of the left or right side of the vehicle in the instrument cluster when you engage the turn signal to make lane changes safer. We always appreciate this feature in Hyundai cars, and it comes in the Limited trim here.
Remote Smart Parking Assist 
This feature, exclusive to the Limited trim, allows drivers to inch their SUV into or out of tight parking spaces while standing outside the vehicle.

Impressive Interior

The Tucson Plug-in Hybrid’s 5-passenger cabin is a nice place to be, whether as a driver or passenger. It’s open, airy, and rich in tech. At center stage is a standard 12.3-inch touchscreen that’s nicely incorporated into the dash. Connected to the left side is either a 4.2-inch LCD gauge cluster in SEL models or a matching 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster in Limited trims. Either way, the whole panel is curved to make it look like one giant screen. It all feels fancy and innovative.
Rather than a traditional transmission lever, there’s a stalk attached to the steering wheel that operates with a twist. Twist forward to put the vehicle into drive, twist back for reverse. For park, simply press the P button at the end. This setup saves space in the center console, and we’ve found it intuitive over time.
Below the screen are controls for climate and audio. We’re grateful that Hyundai uses physical dials to change cabin temperature and audio volume and tuning. Fan settings, though, must be changed by targeting your finger to the small touch-sensitive areas.
Cloth upholstery comes in the SEL trim, while the Limited model has leather-trimmed seating surfaces, along with perks like memory seating, ventilated front sets, power-adjustable passenger seat, and panoramic sunroof.
The large battery of the Tucson Plug-in Hybrid impacts what is still a relatively generous interior space. The rear legroom is 39.5 inches — a couple of inches less than its Tucson stablemates- yet it is more than adequate for a typical family. Cargo capacity takes a larger hit. Behind the rear seats of the Tucson Plug-in Hybrid is a luggage area of 31.9 cubic feet, which opens out to 66.3 when those seats are folded. Compare that with the rest of the lineup’s 38.7 and 74.5 (or 74.8 in the non-hybrid model).
Even then, we wouldn’t call this anything like a deal-breaker, and other plug-in hybrid SUVs also have to make the same trade-off.

If a traditional hybrid vehicle grants added power and efficiency, a plug-in hybrid takes those benefits a couple of steps further, and the Hyundai Tucson Plug-in Hybrid does so with aplomb. This top dog in the Tucson lineup brings the most power to the table, plus the most flexibility thanks to its ability to travel up to 32 miles on battery power alone. After that, the gas engine enables you to go as far as you’d like. That’s the beauty of a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV): They’re like a traditional gasoline-powered vehicle and an electric vehicle in one, but unlike an EV, you’re not beholden to waiting for the vehicle to charge.
The Tucson Plug-in Hybrid is one of just a handful of such special compact SUVs, though it looks to have formidable competition in the all-new, forthcoming Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid.

With PHEV versions of the Ford Escape and Dodge Hornet out of the picture for 2026, the Tucson Plug-in Hybrid has even less competition. But it’s formidable all the same. Its closest is its kin, the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/kia/sportage-plug-in-hybrid/">Sportage Plug-in Hybrid</a> from cousin brand Kia, that starts just a few hundred dollars more. Also in the same ballpark is the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mitsubishi/outlander-phev/">Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV</a>. The big question mark at the time of this writing is the all-new <a href="https://www.kbb.com/toyota/rav4-plug-in-hybrid/2026/">2026 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid</a>. Pricing is still to be announced, but we can tell you the 2025 version starts higher at just over $46,000.
