From a driving perspective, the newest Forester is the most refined and competitive ever. As is so often the case nowadays, the hybrid version is even more enjoyable to drive than the gas-only model, and perhaps even a tick quicker. The Forester Hybrid responds just a bit more quickly and smoothly to throttle inputs, brake feel is good, and it’s exceptionally quiet inside, even more so than the newly hushed non-hybrid Forester. The segment’s tidiest turning circle helps make tight parking lots more easily navigable.
The Forester Hybrid also maintains the same exceptional ground clearance and robust all-wheel-drive system that have long distinguished the Forester as one of the most capable and adventurous compact SUVs. We climbed a steep and rutted dirt hill that left some other compact SUVs fruitlessly spinning their wheels, the latest demonstration that those Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive badges mean something.
<h3>2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid MPG</h3>
The 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid is rated to return fuel economy of 35 mpg in combined city and highway driving. That’s better than the gas-only Forester’s 29 mpg, for an EPA-estimated average savings of about $25 per month at the pump. The 2025 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid AWD is a standout at 39 mpg, which works out to a difference of about $12 per month compared to the Forester Hybrid.

We like the Forester’s signature upright, boxy design. A handful of unique traits make it interesting, including the horizontal line connecting the rear windows to the liftgate window, with “Symmetrical AWD” spelled across. Many Kelley Blue Book editors are also partial to the available bronze-finish wheels. The only things that give it away as a hybrid are small badges on the front doors and liftgate.

Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive 
Subaru’s esteemed all-wheel-drive system is more robust than most, and one of the key reasons Subaru’s vehicles are so prevalent in areas of the country that regularly experience challenging weather and road conditions.
8.7 inches of ground clearance 
The Forester Hybrid’s standard and extra-strength all-wheel-drive system is complemented by the most ground clearance in the segment (8.7 inches).
Intrepid efficiency 
The primary benefits of hybrid ownership are buying and burning less gasoline. Some competitors offer a couple more miles per gallon, but none offer the Forester Hybrid’s reputation for adventure.
Digital instrument cluster 
It’s nice to see Subaru inject more tech into its interiors, and the standard 12.3-inch instrument cluster here is a nice addition.
Emergency Stop Assist 
Part of the Forester Hybrid’s strong suite of active safety features, this will stop the vehicle, turn on the hazard lights, unlock the doors, and call emergency services if the driver becomes unresponsive to warnings while using adaptive cruise control.

This interface is becoming increasingly common on new vehicles, but we still appreciate the feature. If it’s been several years since you purchased or leased a new vehicle, this smartphone connectivity feature will feel like a revelation.

Well-Rounded Interior

A Subaru compact SUV should have an interior that’s roomy, functional, and comfortable. And if it borders on stylish here and there, with some rich designs and materials on offer, all the better. The Forester Hybrid has it all covered.
Highlights include a new digital gauge cluster not yet offered in the non-hybrid Forester, and tall windows that provide excellent outward visibility. Some shoppers will also appreciate that the Forester Hybrid offers a traditional transmission selector as opposed to something of the increasingly common stalk, dial, or button varieties.
The Forester Hybrid gives up a bit of rear headroom and cargo volume compared to the non-hybrid version, but the Forester is among the segment’s roomiest in both regards, so the tradeoff is inconsequential for most. The Forester is also a standout in total legroom, all of which carries over to the hybrid.
If we could change one thing about the Forester, it would be the aging infotainment system. It does the job for the most part, but it’s among our least favorite systems. The interface and responsiveness leave much to be desired.

The adventurous and reliable Subaru Forester has long been a smart choice among compact SUVs, and the new hybrid version is even smarter. Subaru’s compact SUV has been redesigned for 2025, and the lineup has been expanded to include the first-ever Forester Hybrid. It’s more efficient than the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/subaru/forester/">gas-only version</a>, of course, but it’s also just as capable and even a tad more satisfying to drive. Combined with a modest price premium that a typical owner should more than recoup in gas savings, we think the Forester Hybrid is the Forester for most.

The Forester Premium tends to be a popular choice, and is easy to recommend for its impressive collection of standard goodies.
The Forester Hybrid is priced about $1,500 higher than its gas-only counterpart when taking everything into account. With EPA estimates suggesting fuel savings of about $300 per year with the hybrid, it looks like it’ll take five years of driving to recoup that $1,500. But here are a few things to keep in mind: 1) You also recover a big chunk of that price premium when you sell or trade the vehicle, so to break even on the upgrade you might need to save only $750 in gas over a full 5-year buy/drive/sell ownership cycle. 2) If gas is expensive where you live, or you drive even more than 15,000 miles per year, your savings will add up more quickly (the reverse is also true). 3) Saving money and consuming less aren’t the only benefits: With the hybrid you’ll enjoy a slightly better driving experience, even.
When comparing prices with other hybrid compact SUVs, keep in mind every Forester Hybrid features all-wheel drive, and the base model is more generously equipped than some others. The Subaru Forester lineup also enjoys some of the strongest resale values in its class. Remember, recouping more money when selling a vehicle can mean a bigger down payment and lower monthly payments on the next one.

The 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid employs a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder boxer engine coupled with electric motors and a lithium-ion battery, making a combined 194 horsepower. That’s a bit more than the regular Forester, but also a bit short of its hybrid competitors. As with the standard Forester, this hybrid model uses a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and all-wheel drive.
<h3>3-year/36,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
Subaru’s new-vehicle warranty covers three years or 36,000 miles, whichever happens first, while powertrain coverage is five years or 60,000 miles. These are common coverages among mainstream manufacturers. Batteries for hybrid systems usually have a generous warranty, the details of which we are awaiting from Subaru. However, the federally mandated coverage for these components is for eight years or 100,000 miles, at minimum.

The 2025 Subaru Forester and Forester Hybrid have yet to be crash-tested, but the 2024 Forester garnered Top Safety Pick status from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (<a href="https://www.iihs.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIHS</a>) and the 5-Star top score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NHTSA</a>). All models come with Subaru’s impressive EyeSight safety suite with features like automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and more. It has been enhanced for 2025 to operate faster and smoother, and now features Emergency Stop Assist, which activates if the driver becomes unresponsive when using adaptive cruise control.

The Slate Truck arrives as a clean sheet of paper. It&#8217;s a no-frills, affordable electric pickup that can be reconfigured as an SUV.

Reconfigurable Exterior

As trucks continue to get bigger, that creates space in the market for true compact trucks. The Slate Truck is a throwback in many ways – it’s a 2-seat, regular-cab truck that’s a smidge bigger than the 1985 Toyota SR5 Pickup and smaller than the Ford Maverick.
Not only is this a true compact truck like back in the day, but it can also be made into a small 5-passenger SUV with an accessory kit. You can even choose between a fastback or a boxy SUV. The information Slate provided said that a DIY&#8217;er could do this conversion. There is also a choice of exterior wraps.
The Truck comes with 17-inch steel wheels and, as it is an EV, a frunk. Slate offers a number of wheel options, including bronze, silver, black, and anthracite, in either 17-inch or 20-inch sizes. All-terrain tires, all-season-type &#8220;modern tires,&#8221; and low-profile tires are available.

Wide-Ranging Modification Choices 
The Slate Truck has more than 100 attachment points. The biggest option is upgrading the truck to an SUV, but you can also choose a wrap, wheels and tires, interior colors and fitments, tech, and more.
Potentially Low Price 
The idea of a &#8220;have it your way&#8221; truck that starts at less than $30,000 is something to celebrate. That there are fewer electronics on board, plus an EV powertrain, makes maintenance potentially less expensive as well.
Up to 240 Miles of Range 
That&#8217;s plenty for the needs of most drivers, but it does require an upgrade to a larger battery pack.
Fast Charging 
The truck may be bare-bones, but it has a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port and is set up to charge to 80% at 120 kW in 30 minutes.
Solid Payload Capacity 
Its 1,433-pound payload capacity is comparable to that of some 1/2-ton trucks.
Vibrant Colors 
Black, white, silver, and gray dominate the highways these days. It&#8217;s nice to see Slate offer bright colors and fun graphics.

Rewind, Fast Forward, Play

The Slate Truck comes from the factory in one configuration, with crank windows, as well as knob controls on the center stack. That level of retro would suggest a 4-speed manual, a cassette player, and a pine tree air freshener on the rearview mirror. But that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Instead of fretting about the cost of an optional in-house nav system or having to adapt to a new interface, this is a BYON (bring your own nav). The Slate Truck has a universal phone mount and a USB charger. So whatever you have — iPhone, Android, etc. — serves as the interface you already know and use every day. You can even use a tablet. The cabin is clean and simple, but simultaneously looks modern and like a terrific throwback. You can choose seat color, retro stripes, and accents on the climate control knobs. Do you want to bring your own speaker? You can do that, or get speakers from Slate.

The Slate Truck arrives as a clean sheet of paper. Slate has appeared as a brand-new automaker, and this truck aims to arrive for around $20,000 after incentives.
A new truck at an affordable price point makes for really exciting news. It&#8217;s also something shoppers have wanted for a long time. The fact that you can choose to make it a 5-passenger compact SUV makes it even more exciting. This fully electric vehicle will be built on a platform designed for multiple configurations, and more than 100 accessories will be available, so this truck is – you guessed it – a blank slate.
&nbsp;

The goal with the Slate Truck is affordability. Pricing will reportedly start at $27,500. Assuming the $7,500 federal EV tax credit remains available, the Slate Truck would qualify for it under the given regulations. The company hasn&#8217;t announced prices for the accessories and the flat-pack SUV kit, but the more you add, the more the Slate Truck will cost.

There will be a nationwide service network, but no Slate dealer network. You order the truck on Slate’s website. The company does direct-to-consumer sales, and you can pick up the pickup near your home. Slate will be made in the U.S., and production is set to begin in late 2026.
Its announced starting price is a few thousand dollars less than the Ford Maverick, currently the most affordable truck.

This rear-wheel-drive pickup is powered by a single-motor EV system that offers 150 miles of range, or 240 with an available 84.3 kWh pack. That option doesn&#8217;t make the truck all-wheel drive; it&#8217;s still a single-motor system. The Slate Truck uses an NACS port and can be fast-charged to 80% in about 30 minutes. This pickup has 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque, and the base weight is 3,602 pounds.
<h3>Towing and Payload</h3>
In addition to being able to store smaller items up front, the 5-foot cargo bed has a 1,400-pound payload capacity. Towing capacity is 1,000 pounds.
<h3>Safety</h3>
Slate expects the Truck to get top safety ratings. The Truck will come with Active Emergency Braking and Forward Collision Warning, as well as up to eight airbags.

The 2026 Lexus ES midsize luxury sedan marks a new generation, with either hybrid or fully electric drivetrains.

Power, Ride, and Handling

The 2026 ES 350h has a hybrid setup making 244 horsepower (up from the 215 horses of the soon-to-be-outgoing ES 300h) and its quickest acceleration time from standstill to 60 mph is estimated at around 7.6 seconds, accomplished with optional all-wheel drive. That’s not particularly speedy, but then ES hybrids are not revered for their enthusiast appeal.
There’s a similar lack of urgency with the all-electric 2026 ES 350e, configured with front-wheel drive (FWD) and one motor generating 221 hp. Its zero-to-60 mph time is expected to be around 8.7 seconds.
Life edges its way into the fast lane with the 2026 ES 500e, whose two electric motors conjure up 338 hp and will propel the car to 60 mph in around 5.7 seconds. This model has all-wheel drive (AWD).
Lexus says the new ES should “deliver a refined driving experience… enhancing quietness and ride comfort.” That’s always been the ES way. And we’ve never thought the previous ES fell short in these respects.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The previous generation’s ES 300h hybrid achieves an impressive 44 mpg in combined city/highway driving. We expect the new ES 350h to be just as frugal.
<h3>Range and Charging</h3>
The single-motor ES 350e is expected to cover about 300 miles between charges. The dual-motor ES 500e will come in lower. Charging times are still to be disclosed.

Large Exterior

Compared with its predecessor, the new-generation ES is about 6.5 inches longer (about 17 feet in total, almost a foot more than the current Camry), with the wheelbase stretched by 3 inches. We’ve always found the ES to be spacious for occupants in both rows, and it looks like this new model will be even more accommodating.
The new ES is built on the same platform as the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/toyota/crown/">Toyota Crown</a>, and we’re seeing some visual similarities between the two cars. The way to tell a hybrid ES from its all-electric counterpart is by the extra upper grille section.

Executive package 
This optional bundle is offered with the front-wheel-drive ES 350e in Luxury trim. It includes heated/ventilated/massaging/reclining rear outboard seats, plus a footrest on the passenger side.

Sparse Interior

Lexus describes the cabin of the new 2026 ES as “simple and clean.” We’re aware that the word “minimalist” has been over-used in connection with electric vehicle interior designs because most car makers went down this path. In some cases, several years ago. But before we say “nothing to see here,” we’ll mention that the steering wheel now has &#8220;LEXUS&#8221; written in upper-case letters instead of the traditional L logo. And into this clutter-free context, the company has dropped 3D-printed simulated bamboo with ambient LED illumination, plus simulated suede and leather in places.
There’s a large glass area, so the new ES should feel even more spacious than its generous dimensions suggest. That also means great outward vision. The 12.3-inch instrument cluster is set low, contributing to the cabin’s open feel and, according to Lexus, enables smooth eye movement. The seats are set a little higher than before, no doubt because there’s now a battery in the floor, but it does have the happy result of easier entries and exits.

This is an all-new generation of the Lexus ES midsize luxury sedan. We’d also say radically new. Sporting a fresh design and different drivetrains, this latest ES does what no ES has done before — sparked a lot of interest.
Everyone will have their own opinions on the styling, so let’s get under the striking skin right away and say that <a href="https://www.kbb.com/lexus/">Lexus</a> has built this latest eighth-generation ES on a platform developed to accommodate hybrid or completely electric power. Which is exactly what the new ES offers.
Technology also moves forward with a 14-inch infotainment touchscreen (capable of split-screen displays), navigation set into the digital instrument cluster, and an improved ability to obey spoken commands.

We expect the 2026 Lexus ES to start at around $48,000.

The Lexus ES has a history of being relatively affordable yet also retaining its value well. Alternatives are much pricier. The <a href="https://www.kbb.com/bmw/5-series/">BMW 5 Series</a> lineup includes the 550e xDrive plug-in hybrid, from about $75,000. There’s no hybrid <a href="https://www.kbb.com/genesis/g80/">Genesis G80</a> (yet), but the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/genesis/electrified-g80/">Electrified G80</a> should also start at around $75,000 — the same kind of ballpark as the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/mercedes-benz/mercedes-eq-eqe/">Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan</a>. The all-electric <a href="https://www.kbb.com/bmw/i5/">BMW i5</a> begins a little lower than these two. We would also suggest looking at the new-for-2026 <a href="https://www.kbb.com/car-news/2026-volvo-es90-new-all-electric-flagship-sedan/">Volvo ES90</a> electric luxury sedan.

At its entry level, the 2026 ES 350h comes with a familiar hybrid drivetrain, pairing a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric motor to make 244 horsepower. Front-wheel drive is standard; all-wheel drive is optional.
Lexus says the new ES 350e and ES 500e both have large-capacity batteries. We’ll say how large once that information comes through.
<h3>4-Year/50,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
The new-car warranty from Lexus lasts four years or 50,000 miles, whichever happens first — the same terms as other luxury marques such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Powertrains are covered for six years or 70,000 miles, which is better than those German rivals. Hybrid components and EV batteries come with a typical 8-year/100,000-mile warranty. The first two services — at six months/5,000 miles and 12 months/10,000 miles &#8212; are complimentary.
<h3>Safety</h3>
The 2026 ES is the first vehicle to come with the newest Lexus Safety System+ 4.0. As well as usual features like emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, and adaptive cruise control, this array may also include a partial self-driving system.

What's new for 2026

The 2026 Lexus ES is completely new, with distinct styling and a choice of electrified drivetrains. Yet the space and comfort that have always been ES attributes are still evident.

From a driving perspective, the newest Forester is the most refined and competitive ever. As is so often the case nowadays, the hybrid version is even more enjoyable to drive than the gas-only model, and perhaps even a tick quicker. The Forester Hybrid responds just a bit more quickly and smoothly to throttle inputs, brake feel is good, and it’s exceptionally quiet inside, even more so than the newly hushed non-hybrid Forester. The segment’s tidiest turning circle helps make tight parking lots more easily navigable.
The Forester Hybrid also maintains the same exceptional ground clearance and robust all-wheel drive system that have long distinguished the Forester as one of the most capable and adventurous compact SUVs. We climbed a steep and rutted dirt hill that left some other compact SUVs fruitlessly spinning their wheels, the latest demonstration that those Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive badges mean something.
<h3>2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid MPG</h3>
The 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid is rated to return fuel economy of 35 mpg in combined city and highway driving. That’s better than the gas-only Forester’s 29 mpg, for an EPA-estimated average savings of about $25 per month at the pump. The 2025 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid AWD is a standout at 39 mpg, which works out to a difference of about $12 per month compared to the Forester Hybrid.

Functional Interior

The adventurous and reliable Subaru Forester has long been a smart choice among compact SUVs, and the new hybrid version is even smarter. Subaru’s compact SUV has been redesigned for 2025, and the lineup has been expanded to include the first-ever Forester Hybrid. It’s more efficient than the <a href=":censored:19:4fe1c87dd2:/subaru/forester/">gas-only version</a>, of course, but it’s also just as capable and even a tad more satisfying to drive. Combined with a modest price premium that a typical owner should more than recoup in gas savings, we think the Forester Hybrid is the Forester for most.

Engine and Transmission

The Subaru Forester has been completely redesigned for 2025, and the lineup has been expanded to include the Subaru Forester Hybrid. It’s the <a href=":censored:19:4fe1c87dd2:/car-news/2025-subaru-forester-hybrid-35-mpg-36415/">first gas-electric version</a> of the automaker’s popular and venerable compact SUV, and it features an impressive new hybrid powertrain.

Power, Ride and Handling

The Lightning is surprisingly quick off the line, with a manufacturer-estimated zero-to-60 time as low as 3.8 seconds. That makes it one of the fastest models in the F-150 lineup, and is especially impressive considering this is not a lightweight pickup. That thrust comes courtesy of the 580-horsepower dual-motor extended-range powertrain, which powers all but the XLT trim, which comes standard with a 452-horsepower dual-motor setup. All-wheel drive (AWD) is standard, with an electronic locking differential. Both powertrains deliver 775 lb-ft of torque.
Not only is the F-150 Lightning quick, but acceleration is smooth, predictable, and linear. And there is no shortage of power on reserve for passing on the highway. The one-pedal driving mode makes dealing with stop-and-go city traffic easier to deal with. On the highway, the optional BlueCruise hands- (and foot-) free system is very user-friendly and makes highway driving more pleasant.
No, there is no V8 rumble. That leaves the cabin especially quiet, with only minor road and wind noise sneaking in. The result of gobs of power on hand, a smooth ride, comfortable seats, and a quiet interior is a luxurious, serene drive. The only thing that could make it better is the Active Motion massaging seats in the Platinum trim.
<h3>Range and Charging</h3>
The Ford F-150 Lightning gets an <a href="https://fueleconomy.gov/feg/make.shtml" target="_blank" rel="noopener">EPA</a>-reported range of up to 320 miles with the extended-range battery and up to 240 miles with the standard battery. The Platinum trim, which comes standard with an extended battery, gets 300 miles of range. For comparison, the range of the Rivian R1T is between 258 and 420 miles, depending on the configuration, and the Chevrolet Silverado EV with extended-range battery is rated for up to 408 miles (492 in the Work Truck and LT).

Tough Functional Exterior

That F-150 family resemblance is strong here, too. If it weren’t for the telltale LED strip that flanks the headlights and runs along the edge of the frunk, you’d think it was a gas F-150. While there aren’t multiple bed and cab choices for the F-150 Lightning — every Lightning has a crew cab and a 5.5-foot bed — there are three wheel designs (18-, 20-, and 22-inch), an available twin-panel moonroof, and a choice of optional running boards. You can also get a power tailgate and a tailgate step. Exterior badging and chrome work vary depending on trim level.
Open the hood of the F-150 Lightning, and you’ll find a sizable “frunk” instead of an engine, with 14.1 cubic feet of room. For reference, that’s roughly the trunk size in the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/honda/civic/">Honda Civic</a>. Some clever features inside include power outlets, a cargo net, and a floor panel that can flip up vertically and act as a divider.

Pro Trailer Hitch Assist 
This feature controls the steering, throttle, and brakes to make light work of hitching up a trailer. It’s part of the Tow Technology package, optional in the lower trims, and standard in the upper versions.
Mega Power Frunk 
Yes, a frunk is to be expected on an electric truck. But the Mega Power Frunk, which is standard, has four 120-volt outlets. It also has a USB-C outlet and a USB-A outlet to keep your devices topped off. Oh, and did we mention it can carry pounds of payload?
Pro Power Onboard 
Whether you’re planning your next tailgate party or need to power tools at the job site, Pro Power Onboard adds even more plug-in power options &#8212; beyond those in the frunk &#8212; that can be found in the truck bed. Up to 11 outlets have up to 9.6 kW of available power.
SYNC 4A 
The SYNC 4A infotainment system in the F-150 Lightning comes standard with a 12-inch screen, and it’s available with a bigger 15.5-inch screen. Standard infotainment features include Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Ford Co-Pilot360 
Standard safety features like automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and blind-spot monitoring add safety and confidence to every drive.
BlueCruise 
The available <a href="https://www.kbb.com/car-news/ford-expands-bluecruise-hands-free-options/">BlueCruise</a> semi-autonomous driving system allows for hands-free driving on highways mapped by <a href="https://www.kbb.com/ford/">Ford</a>. It covers over 130,000 miles of highway in North America.

Upscale, Practical Spacious Interior

What does the Lightning look like inside? There is no question this truck is a part of the F-150 family, which is evident the second you get behind the wheel. The cabin is spacious, with blocky accents on the dash and contrasting gray and black throughout. Seats are either cloth in the XLT, ActiveX leather alternative in the Flash Lariat, or premium Nirvana leather in the Platinum.
It has enough unique high-tech and convenience details to make the Lightning distinctive. For example, a 12-inch touchscreen comes standard, and a 15.5-inch screen is optional. The digital gauge cluster is reconfigurable to show range, steering angle, and more. Higher trim levels come standard with Ford’s clever interior work surface; fold down the transmission shifter and unfold the top of the center storage lid to create a handy work space.
Every F-150 Lightning has a crew cab body with 43.6 inches of rear legroom. Good news: That’s the same amount of space as the crew cab of the gas-powered F-150. It’s also quite a bit more space than the smaller Rivian R1T, which only has 36.6 inches of backseat legroom.

In many ways, the expectations of an electric truck’s performance are tougher than any other electric vehicle (EV) out there. It has to tow, go off-road, and still serve as a family ride on the weekends – everything people expect a gas-powered full-size truck to do. It has much of the baked-in goodness of the F-150. It even shares the F-150’s styling. The F-150 Lightning has an impressive range, the lowest starting price in its class, and a terrific roster of features focused on work, safety, and convenience.
The Ford F-150 Lightning competes in a small class of electric pickup trucks that includes the Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV, as well as the Rivian R1T and the Tesla Cybertruck. We also expect to see the all-electric Ram REV arrive at dealerships soon.

While the 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning has the lowest starting price in its segment, remember that it is for the base Pro trim, which you can only build and price at Ford’s Ford Pro website. Realistically, the base model for consumers is the XLT trim. The good news is that it’s still the lowest price in the segment. In addition, the popular Lariat is a very well-equipped trim level that’s easy to recommend.
The F-150 Lightning’s closest rivals, the 2025 <a href="https://www.kbb.com/chevrolet/silverado-ev/">Chevrolet Silverado EV</a> and <a href="https://www.kbb.com/rivian/r1t/">Rivian R1T</a>, start above $70,000. The <a href="https://www.kbb.com/tesla/cybertruck/">Tesla Cybertruck</a> starts at over $80,000. And the <a href="https://www.kbb.com/gmc/sierra-ev/">GMC Sierra EV</a>, which is only available as the Denali for 2025, starts at over $90,000.

There are no major changes for 2025

A 98-kWh battery comes standard in the XLT trim, with 452 hp and 240 miles of range. An extended-range 131-kWh battery is standard in the Flash, Lariat, and Platinum models, with 580 hp and 320 miles of range. Both are backed by a single-speed transmission, and all-wheel drive is standard. The standard battery gets an EPA efficiency rating of 68 combined MPGe, and the extended-range battery gets up to 70 MPGe (66 MPGe in the Platinum trim).
According to EPA estimates, the monthly fuel costs of the F-150 Lightning are lower than the F-150 with the standard V6 engine and 4-wheel drive (4WD) by a factor of about $150/month. The Rivian R1T is slightly more efficient, but its estimated fuel costs are similar to the Lightning&#8217;s.
<h3>Towing and Payload</h3>
The F-150 Lightning boasts an impressive maximum tow rating of up to 10,000 pounds and a max payload capacity of 2,000 pounds, but a word of caution is in order. Third-party tests have shown that towing makes a drastic impact on range. According to real-world testing, the F-150 Lightning Platinum with a full charge only gets about 100 miles of range when pulling a camper weighing around 5,000 pounds.
<h3>3-Year/36,000-Mile Warranty</h3>
Like its gas-powered counterpart, the Ford F-150 Lightning is backed by a 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. Additionally, the battery is covered by an 8-year/100,000-mile warranty. This coverage is about typical for a mainstream-brand EV.
<h3>Safety</h3>
The Ford F-150 Lightning comes standard with the Ford Co-Pilot360 2.0 safety tech suite, which bundles features like automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, rear parking sensors, and more. Hands-free highway driving is available with the optional BlueCruise feature. The Lightning earned a 5-Star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (<a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NHTSA</a>).

What's New for 2025

While the 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning is mostly a carryover, there are some notable minor changes. The NACS adapter and cord now come standard, rather than as an added cost. Instead of a standard spare tire, a tire inflator and sealant kit are standard, and the spare is an available option. In the color palette, Space White replaces Avalanche. The biggest loss is that the smart hitch and onboard scales were discontinued for the entire F-150 lineup for 2025.

The 2025 Mini Hardtop 4 Door is powered by a turbocharged 161-horsepower 4-cylinder engine matched with a 7-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. The models with “S” in the name get a performance upgrade to 201 hp, plus way more torque. The base engine scoots this little car around just fine, but we think the S model is worth the slight price premium to unlock the Mini’s fun potential.
Regardless of the engine, the Mini Hardtop 4 Door handled beautifully in <a href="https://www.kbb.com/car-news/driving-the-2025-mini-cooper-hardtop/">our testing</a>, thanks to its small footprint and wheels stretched out to the corners. These qualities also make it a pleasure to drive on city streets, weaving through traffic and parking just about wherever you want with ease.
Every Mini is a great city car, but the longer wheelbase of the 4 Door model makes this a slightly comfier highway cruiser than the shorter 2 Door model. Speaking of comfort, we know those 18-inch wheel options are fabulous, but they make the ride quality a little harsher than the 17-inch wheels.
<h3>Fuel Economy</h3>
The Mini Cooper 4 Door has the same fuel economy ratings as the 2 Door. It returns 28 city/39 highway/32 combined mpg, regardless of the trim. That’s a little less efficient than the Nissan Versa, which doesn’t come with turbocharged performance.
Subcompact hatchbacks are supposed to have low fuel costs. Although the Mini is reasonably fuel-efficient, its premium gas recommendation makes it surprisingly expensive to fuel up for such a small car. Since the base model and the sportier S trim have identical fuel economy ratings, you might as well get the excitement of the Cooper S if it fits your budget.

Iconic Exterior

Mini did an excellent job giving the Mini Cooper a 4-door body while keeping it appropriately small. It’s just big enough to be measurably roomier and more practical than its traditional 2-door counterpart, but it retains subcompact dimensions. Then, of course, there’s the disarming cuteness of the Mini Cooper, with one of the finest executions we’ve seen of a retro/modern design. The Mini is also highly customizable; it’s the only car we know of that’s available with a gradient purple contrast roof.
The adorable and properly small Mini Cooper is a breath of fresh air in an automotive landscape flooded with SUVs.

Lively S model 
The Mini Cooper S delivers the exciting driving character we’ve come to associate with the Mini brand. With lithe handling, 201 hp, and a claimed zero-to-60 mph time of 6.7 seconds, the Cooper S is as fun to drive as it is to look at.
Standout style 
Just look at it. The Mini Cooper has a distinctly British aesthetic instantly recognizable from any angle. That’s a face you’ll never get tired of seeing in your garage.
Extra space 
With an extra 1.5 inches of rear legroom and 47% more cargo room behind the back seats than the Mini 2 Door, this 4 Door model is decidedly more practical without compromising its charm.
Panoramic roof 
The Mini’s characteristically flat roof lets in a lot of natural light with its panoramic sunroof, a standard feature that adds to the premium feel of this hatchback.
9.4-inch OLED display

Ambient interior lighting is becoming ordinary, but the Mini is anything but. Seven Mini Experience Modes are accompanied by dazzling light and projections, creating a vibe in the Mini’s interior that’s as fun and unique as its exterior.

Expressive Interior

Although the new Mini Cooper models are not so different sizewise from their predecessors, the company’s decision to keep things clean and simple helps create a sense of space. Materials and build quality remain in that area between mainstream and luxury.
The automatic transmission’s shift functions have also been moved into the center console, leaving space for a wireless phone charging pad. The dashboard’s dominant feature, however, is a circular OLED infotainment touchscreen with a 9.4-inch diameter. This customizable screen is full of different themes that can change according to the drive mode.
The rear seats are usable, with 32.3 inches of legroom. Predictably, that’s more rear legroom than the 2-door Mini but less than the Mini Countryman SUV. Thanks to the boxy shape of the Mini, it has decent cargo space for such a small car. The 4-door Mini has 13.1 cubic feet of space behind the back seats, which is 47% more than the 2-door. Fold down the back seats, and you get a fairly huge 40-cubic-foot cargo hold.
